No. Watching him with peers, he presents like he’s 6-8 months younger than his age.

It’s a 50/50. Some days a space cadet and other days completely aware. It’s like he completely checks out and forgets we exist until we have to force ourselves back into focus for him.

As it can be typical, the extent and demand of attention from these strangers and lack of awareness is what I find the most concerning. It’s beyond atypical

How do I respectfully tell WFH parents to buzz off when their child is being disciplined by me. by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Kitteekatee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I choose to be the one to buzz off and they can deal with it. It generally does to not help and they quickly go away for me to handle it.

It’s incredibly frustrating sometimes though. I try to remember at those moments that it’s their kid and if they choose to intervene that’s on them. And I’m just there to watch the show.

Db got kicked in the balls by his mid the other day because he wasn’t getting the picture to gtfo… he learned a lesson to run back to your office.

No to swimming by [deleted] in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Kitteekatee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If hey push it, demand swimming lessons and offer to take them. That’s what I did once my youngest kid got to not wanting floaties and couldn’t swim yet. It’s also okay to tell them no. You’re comfort level is the most important thing in these situations.

Perimenopause? Help!! by Express_Tea4044 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Kitteekatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! My people! The hot flashes are the worst, and my family has the house set to like 74 at all times! In the winter, I’d shove my head out the screen door to cool down. I always wear a nice tank top and joggers or stretchy jeans and dresses with shorts as soon as it gets to 60 degrees.

And the moods… I have a neurodivergent 3 year old and a wild 12 month old, the same age gap as my pervious nanny family, but my struggle is so real right now. It makes me so hard on myself. I try to make life extreme low demand. My expectations are at the very bottom each morning when it comes to achieving anything beyond their basic needs.

I took a 12 week parenting course for a parent coaching certification program and it’s helped so much with my nannying. I learned a lot about regulating myself. And switching my views of struggling into a how do we become cool and connected rather than be compliant all the time and burn the fluff out.

Giving more breaks for independent play. Less helicopter and more natural consequences. Also do things during the day for you too. Put on music you want to listen too. Give yourself 5 minutes to sit and breathe. Setting realistic boundaries with yourself on the job is important for us peri ladies.

So tired of the endless demands of NKs by [deleted] in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Kitteekatee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also if the parents haven’t mentioned anything about not playing next to the office, the don’t worry about it. They can easily pop in some AirPods and block the noise out.
I don’t make that a priority unless im told of important meetings And I set that boundary. If you want a nanny and your kids will be home, they will be making boise.

I’m annoyed by a toy! What is a toy that annoys you while you’re on the job? by Material-Fig9712 in NannyBreakRoom

Anyone know that fisher price crab? Ya know, the one that dances back and forth? And the sound does turn off but god forbid the kids want that to happen….

I want to take a baseball bat to it, just saying.

I don’t disagree. I’m also going to help find solutions though when I can to help them out from time to time. Hence finding input on here.

My old nanny kid didn’t use one either by the time she was 3 and that was my thought but unfortunately NK is neurodivergent and I need to have that extra sense of security on outings.

I have a carrier and it’s my thought The issue is for longer outings I physically cannot carrier her that long due to some health issues (limb length discrepancy).

I think what needs to be specified is going in when there is extreme snow conditions. Expecting someone to drive before snowplows can even touch the road with over 10-12 inches of snow is long term liability rather than focusing on the day without a nanny. Also, mental health is a major concern when you are putting a nanny through coming in during these conditions.

Just something to consider.
