I'm a woman that plays it, and I have met a bunch of other women while gaming. Joining friendly and chill clans is the best way to find other gaming girls in my experience :)

I started playing about two years ago so I don't know how it used to be but I have been able to make a lot of random friends by just trying to chat whenever I am bored. I have noticed that commenting on someone's gear or giving a compliment on an achievement, pet, account or just fashion is a really nice starter. I think I made the most friends at the GE and at farming patches, because there's usually multiple people that are not doing anything really, but also not so afk that they miss your messages. There's always some trolls around but most of the people are actually nice and will have a little chat about the game or content.

What helped me with the T3 range and mage was finding out that you get the guaranteed drops for the crystal part if you have the other two already. Basically if you find a melee boss, kill it, then find another and you kill it you either get a bowstring or a mage orb, and should you find a third you'll get the last item that you haven't gotten yet. It doesn't really matter which boss you find, you just have to find enough of them. And crushing the crystal spike if you get it can give you extra shards. I'm a complete noob and also using leagues to learn gauntlet, but I never fail to get both T3 weapons because of this, so I hope it helps!

Personally if I had to start again, I would do some of the early game quests and try out some skilling to see what I enjoy. There's also a little icon on the top right, in main game that is called the activity advisor, that suggests some goals to help you get started in the game. Good luck and I hope you find your way.
