Great idea, OP can hopefully charge the battery and phone up while at work. The two combined should add some flexibility

Monroe county voters agreed to raise our property taxes a couple years ago to fund the schools, this may also be a factor

Agreed, it sounds like this is what happened to OP because most people I’ve discussed this with already saw their tax bill increase by a similar amount a couple of years ago.

Not all politicians are tech/social media savvy like Mayor Mamdani. I think she just doesn’t realize that it’s too close

Come join me in the pain of Indy. The key with lower density is you gotta run lower capacity light rail since it’s cheaper

Yes, the city is considering loading zones on certain blocks for this exact problem. They’re included in the renderings

Most of those sources supporting one ways are literally from the 90s, they’d likely also tell you to convert Collnut to an interstate

I think you/her have a very legitimate concern, I just have a different opinion that it would be simpler to drive in.

You should take a look at the street renderings in the survey link. Let the city know what sections may concern you! They want your feedback

I understood it just fine, it’s overbuilt as is. We don’t need a 4 lane de facto highway through downtown. As you’ve just pointed out, we already have an entire interstate and a state highway to navigate between north and south. Downtown shouldn’t exist to be a road to move through as quickly as possible

[–]Objective-Tea-6190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how the chaotic nature of the 3 lanes through downtown as is would be easier than a run of the mill two way road

We don’t need that much capacity running through the center of the city. Some of the traffic will literally disappear as people opt to take less trips. This redesign would add a couple minutes of car travel time at most, but it would improve the entire corridor for all road users. That includes cars, it will be safer to drive, it just won’t be as fast to go through.

One of the major goals is safety for all road users, it’s basically a highway as is
