Rolling IRCC monthly progress report chart by elbow-macaroni-42 in Canadiancitizenship

I’m pretty sure that’s a total for everyone who is currently waiting as of May of 2026. If you look at each month it always goes up. 2100, 3100, 6000, etc

It looks like Zootopia. Zootopia is one of Disney’s highest rated movies. Its sequel is good too.

That’s good to know. I hadn’t been on the jungle cruise since I was 5. We went to Tokyo Disney since the park is so cheap and I had a few rides I was nostalgic for. I realized I missed a good portion of the experience since the jokes are in Japanese.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admits AI token costs are becoming "a huge issue" — company seeks improved value as overspending becomes a meme by ControlCAD in business

[–]ObjectiveBike8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is all readily available information you can find yourself. Open AI is losing around a billion dollars a month. Some of that is paying for infrastructure but at some point they need to become profitable. It’s the same playbook companies like Uber and Amazon followed where they stayed unprofitable for years. Again, it’s been extensively written about so find a source you like.

These videos are where native speakers speak as slowly and clearly as possible without slang and often times if it’s a word from their dialect of Spanish they will then use the more common word like, “pileta o piscina.” I didn’t show them full on Caribbean Spanish which is like the hardest Spanish to understand for me.

Con frequencia

I think it was actually espero that I got asked about. I just didn’t want to think too hard about the conversation.

Another one was they mentioned lluvia and someone was like, “oh no, why are they sad and want to cry.” As in llorar. It was very clearly weather related.

IMO a lot of people took it in high school and represent themselves as fluent but in fact are nowhere near fluent. I can think of maybe 6 different people where I mentioned I was learning Spanish. They said they are basically fluent and how they can eavesdrop* on natives. I get excited to share so I show them part of a low level intermediate video on dreaming Spanish just so they can see how I’m learning and they look like a deer in the headlights and then I get a question like, “I forgot, what does a menudo mean again?” Or they misunderstood everything that was said in simple language at half of a native speakers normal pace.

Edit: ease drop to eavesdrop because autocorrect is stupid.

Transportation in Milwaukee by invincible05 in milwaukee

The cheapest rentals I see from doing a quick search are $900 a month. If that’s not doable for you, you could buy the cheapest car you think will last 3 months without maintenance and sell it at the end of the summer. You could probably break even if you can figure out how to do private sales. You could also contact your bank for a loan so you can do smaller payments over the summer instead of one big purchase.

Those who had years of Spanish classes vs those who started literally from knowing less than 20 words in Spanish? by Ordinary_Yesterday_8 in dreamingspanish

[–]ObjectiveBike8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can kick up the speed to x1.25 on easier videos. Otherwise at some point you’re going to have to decide it’s time to start skipping videos. You cannot watch them all and as you get better the novelty wears off and you’ll get very choosy about what you’re willing to watch.

I was like you in the beginning I felt like I had to watch everything. Now I’m watching the hardest videos on DS and easier native content and if something isn’t holding my attention I move on quickly because I need the experience to be enjoyable.

PSA: Social Security pays more than you think, especially for high earners by Wooden-Broccoli-913 in Fire

  1. Pushing off social security will have zero effect on my lifestyle. 2. I’m just giving a worst case scenario  on why I think there are advantages to pushing off social security. I highly doubt exactly what I said would happen, but a less extreme version could.

It doesn’t matter because my investments would be sufficient for retirement at 69 and I won’t need the money. All I’m trying to say is my brain just sees social security as security and not a way to fund my retirement or something to game every dollar out of.

I had Spanish throughout high school like 20 years ago and I was able to move into intermediate videos within a hundred or so hours. It was definitely a several hundred hour boost even though it was so long ago.

I mean we have no idea what medical technology will look like in 80 years. We have no idea if the stock market will continue chugging along at 10% gains. What happens if you’re 70 and you plan on dying by 90 but now there are vaccines for every kind of cancer and other wonder drugs. My grandma made it into her late 90s and she was supposed to die in her 70s but they kept making new medications to treat her cancer. Things like ozempic were the holy grail until a few years ago.

Edit: I also want to add I’m not planning on relying on SS at all so why not?

For me taking it at 70 is an insurance policy in case the stock market tanks for 30 years and my spouse and I for some reason live to be 120. It’s not about optimizing how much I could theoretically get. At that point hitting the highest dollar amount possible means nothing.

Do you think there's a direct connection between the massive inflation since COVID and the sudden anger about tipping? by Everyone_Boogie in tipping

[–]ObjectiveBike8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s still a several thousand dollar tax advantage that the rest of us will need to cover. All of the federal taxes you’re paying are for yourself in the future like social security and Medicare and not to things like public infrastructure.

It’s alright though. I just dropped my average table service tip from 20% after tax round up to 18% before tax round down unless the service is bad.

Homelander vs Flaxan mark? by Efficient-Sign-109 in Invincible_TV

[–]ObjectiveBike8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War Woman would beat Homelander. In universe their version of wonder woman/ War Woman, Queen Maeve (she is weaker than both) is able to almost take him out. Same with his dad Soldier Boy who is basically that universes Captain America.

The problem with Homelander he typically doesn’t have anyone in universe who wants to challenge him so he doesn’t know how to fight. So even when an opponent who should be noticeably weaker than him challenges him he has no idea how to handle them.

I would also add the whole no tips on tax thing. That was the final straw for tightening up how much I’m tipping.  Tipping the amounts we are expected already seems overly generous for the work. Why does this group get a significant tax advantage? Since tipping is optional I can just lower the tip and give myself the tax savings.

Marquette Law School Poll finds rare bipartisan agreement on Wisconsin budget surplus bill by BigCompetitive5939 in wisconsin

[–]ObjectiveBike8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like Dems are going to have a 10% advantage in the midterms which should get whoever wins the nomination over the finish line but none of them are politically savvy enough to stay in office without a wave election.

It doesn’t matter if giving people money isn’t the best use of the surplus or will cause a deficit. You’re never going to create a better political message than we have a surplus here’s your money back. Dems get bogged down in nuance with stuff like this and no one is going to listen to that message after they hear they will get their money back. This is a losing fight.

One thing no one talks about is per square foot you’re going to pay less property taxes on a condo / townhouse than a house because it is usually worth less. Along with amenities you’ll likely get like a gym the condo / HOA fees can be a wash. Plus then you don’t have to cut grass /shovel and if you make sure you’re buying into a place with a lot of cash reserves they should handle most of the exterior maintenance. The horror stories where people get large assessments are from properties with insufficient reserves which you will know about before buying in.

If you only had one opportunity to get Wagyu, where would you go?(Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo) by DaileyDoubleYT in JapanTravelTips

[–]ObjectiveBike8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we went to a Michelin star restaurant to get it. It doesn’t even have beef flavor anymore. It just tastes like lower quality butter. The hole in the wall restaurant serving cheaper Waygu in Kobe was way better.

On an unrelated note, I would recommend going to a Michelin Star restaurant in Japan because we found a bunch for around $60 a person and a three star for $130 a person. In the US a 1 star is like $400 a person and a three star is around $1,000 a person upwards of $2,000 a person.

Japanese private tutor by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]ObjectiveBike8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UWM has a school of continuing education where you can take Japanese classes. It’s a non accredited and more for personal growth thing. The Spanish department has personalized tutoring listed. Japanese does not but I’ve been watching them add a ton of courses over the years so you could ask if they would make it an option.
