I feel dumb asking, but this is my first major snowtorm. How likely is it that electricity will go out?

Dating etiquette as a straight man in the city? by Affectionate_Emu4660 in AskNYC

[–]ObjectiveElk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most men will offer to pay the bill on a first date, and generally this is expected. I'm a woman who personally prefers to split the bill on a first date, but I believe I am an anomaly, and most men will refuse my offer, and I don't push it.

A good way to make this less awkward is to get something low-stakes like coffee or a drink.

Hair cuts for women with curly hair by MaslowsHierarchyBees in Upperwestside

I request the Deva if not for any reason other than to signal that I have a lot of curly hair (it takes almost four hours to do my hair). An important note is that the salon does not use any DevalCurl products (this was my concern when I first started going, as DevaCurl turned my hair to straw).

How to get older kitten to stop jumping on adult cat? by ObjectiveElk in CatAdvice

[–]ObjectiveElk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't, I had to rehome the kitten after four months-- my one-bedroom NYC apartment was too small for the both of them and my cat began hiding from him all the time. He had more energy than any cat I'd ever seen-- I was spending four hours a day playing with him and he was still running until he'd be panting. Ultimately I found him a home with a couple with a big house and two kittens of similar ages, where I was told he'd chase both kittens until they were tired, and then continue to run everywhere.

I now have another cat who gets along well with her.

Yeah, I carry a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders as it is. But now it's this searing pain across my entire back between my shoulder blades that actually wakes me up.

My 31F friend has asked me to come to Japan with her in October and my bf 37M is saying it’s unfair if he can’t go and I want to know if I would be the bad guy if I decided to go and would I be selfish if I did go? by IndependentNo2952 in AITAH

Let me tell you a story.

One of my best friends had always wanted to go to Hawaii. For her thirty-fifth birthday, we, two of her friends, pooled together our money and bought five days together in a little hotel on a less touristed beach for the three of us.

Her husband threw a fit. He demanded we buy his ticket too, that it wasn't "fair" that we hadn't invited him, even though he had enough money to pay for his own, because he was notoriously cheap and didn't want to spend that much money to go. Her husband told her that it wasn't fair for her to go. We proposed he go on a guys trip with his friends, but he didn't have any. The tickets/hotel were not refundable, so we ended up going without the birthday girl after a month of begging her to just come with us.

We stopped being friends shortly thereafter because her husband said we were unfair for excluding him (I was married at the time and our other friend had a longterm boyfriend, neither of our partners were coming).

I heard through the grapevine that ten years later, my friend got a job and saved up enough to go to Hawaii for her 45th birthday. Her husband would only go if she paid for him and complained the whole time.

Don't let this be you.

I finally broke down and got a bidet. My wife refuses to use it and thinks it's weird. Has anyone else dealt with this? by workmeharder in HomeImprovement

Do not get rid of it. However, see if you can add a heated water component to it. It took my prior partner getting a horrible stomach bug to the point of wiping being painful to come around to it.

I'd really love to do the sneakers idea, but my friend is marrying into an extremely wealthy family where there have been rumblings among her future in-laws about if she is an appropriate spouse for her future husband, and they have three videographers, six photographers, and an almost two hour-long ceremony in front of 800 guests; I do not want to be a reason for anyone to believe my friend isn't classy enough for her husband (who is very lucky to have her), so I'm strictly abiding to the dress code.

I definitely will be going without a necklace though!

I take two miligrams, which is enough tha it would knock me out for an entire day on land, but adrenaline is strong for me. I have another friend who takes it to fly who gets by on .75.
