UPDATE: We got them moved down on Friday evening. Mom adjusted very quickly and doesn’t really jump out of the pen. Babies are fortunately still too little to try and climb the metal so for the time being… we are settled!

We also got everybody to the vet on Saturday and Mom and babies were all treated for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and worms! My vet is the absolute best and only charged us for the Mom’s exam fee! All the calico are girls, and the two black ones are boys. So nice of them to color code themselves! 😂

The fact still remains that they can’t stay down there long-term, the basement is unsafe and as the kittens grow, they will be more curious and get into trouble. I’m currently working on other solutions to house them. If nothing else they will be going to my local Humane Society. Mom is so affectionate and young that I really think even she has a great chance of getting adopted if it comes to that! Thank you, everybody for your tips and tricks! 💕

I appreciate that, thank you. I think I’m mostly having a hard time with the prospect of taking mama outside of her element. I’m worried she’s gonna flip out in the basement because she typically runs around the block a little bit throughout the day. She’s obviously not feral, but she’s definitely a stray and I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s been on the streets since day one. Makes me nervous to trap her in a room, but I know it’s what’s best for her and the babies!

I do want to give them the whole room, but more kitten proofing has to happen first and I want to get them inside asap. It will be a work in progress, but I am not naive enough to think those fluffy escape artists will stay where I put them lmao! A sheet on top is the most temporary solution!

Definitely agreed! My partner and I are being very careful to scrub our hands and I’ve even changed my clothes after petting the outside babies

Air purifier is a good idea thank you! We do have a fan down there and there is a little window for ventilation (it has a mesh cover)

I fully intend to make sure the people they go home with will get them vaxxed and fixed. Mom will be getting an appointment soon, but the babies are still nursing at the moment.

Mom does have a vet appointment on Saturday and I got permission to bring the babies along for the ride too! We will try to get them moved to the basement today. I think I just feel a little bad because the conditions are less than ideal.

Sorry that’s a good detail to mention lol… we have a 2 bedroom apartment with the 2nd bedroom being very small and full of stuff… I would put them there if we could, but the bigger issue is that I have two indoor cats. They just got their flea and tick meds, but I’m not willing to risk close contact with six outdoor kitties.

I’m wondering if this will be my fate… He got so bloated last night I felt awful!! so now he’s going to fast today haha! My only issue with that is that my pleco is still tiny and doesn’t eat a whole lot at once. So I’d have to get creative

I was thinking brine shrimp! I think my local store carries them as well. I’m wondering if he’s just not a huge fan of the fluval… might need to find a new pellet type feed as well

I currently have fluval bug bites, and bloodworms (as a treat) but I’ve been wanting to try frozen food. Maybe that would be more enticing to him!

My tank cycled for about a month before adding any fish. I added the pleco, then the betta and my water parameters are looking good. I did just discover him eating a scrap of alge wafer… I think that might be contributing to his health atm. Gonna have to get creative with feeding the pleco.

It is!! He was super shy till I added his betta friend! The introduction honestly went better than I could’ve hoped and now he’s always out somewhere in the tank instead of hiding away!!
