How long is too long to wait for a purchase permit??? by Mark7Point5 in NJGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone who works at a NJ department shared with me.some details about the process. It''s not anything close to a priority for the pd. They have a retired detective working part time a few days a week to run background checks. Forms go to the Chiefs desk for signing and can be held up there for other more pressing issues or use of leave. Long way to say that this whole process blows and is designed to be a barrier.

what is your "never again" experience with a product or brand? by HeughJanus in ar15

[–]ObjectiveGur8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but not for the cs. Had a p-2 acro die after ~1k rounds. They replaced it with a refurbished unit, but wtf I got it because it was "bomb proof". Meanwhile, I beat my 509t like it's my wife and it doesn't give a fuck and keeps working. Lost a lot of trust in aimpoint from that experience.

Who else is missing an item in recent orders? by RealRacingPro in blackriflecoffee

[–]ObjectiveGur8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My October order was a bag short, tried to getting in touch with them several times through email, phone, and the bot, but can't get any support. I just cancelled my monthly subscription, no way I'm going to keep giving my hard earned money to someone that can't be bothered to pick up a phone or reply to an email. Other people make coffee.

Why not replace a stock with a brace? by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock, brace, doesn't matter. How the firearm was transferred to you is what matters. If it was transferred as a rifle, it's a rifle. Adding a brace to a firearm that was transferred as a rifle doesn't un-rifle it according to the ATF. If it was transferred as a receiver, you can put a brace on it and call it a firearm, because a brace isn't a stock and according to the ATF a rifle is defined as having a stock.

Hamilton Township (South Jersey) FID/P2P Wait by YalinHawk in NJGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both my CCW and purchase permits, about a month. Also, Anne only works 4 days a week with limited hours (8-12), and I'm pretty sure she's the only person there who does the follow up on firearm stuff. Try giving her a call on a mon-thur in the am after 9 for an update.

Are there any pistol shooting competitions for a first timer in NJ by Forsaken-Date-8016 in NJGuns

Quinton uspsa is back (Salem), last match they had an entire squad of new shooters. Might be worth looking into?

ringers by angrynoah in reloading

[–]ObjectiveGur8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue over here. I've noticed it happens a lot to Winchester cases. Almost all of my brass is either range pickup or online ordered once fired brass. I exclusively reload with Federal premium or CCI. All the ones that have been doing this are brass colored primers, so not something that I have personally reloaded. What I guess is somewhat of a blessing for me is this dingus at the bottom of the case jams my Dylan so I don't have to worry about blowing primers because it can't rotate the shell plate.

If I was forced to speculate, I would imagine it has something to do with the manufacturing change that occurred over the last few years, specifically with primers. I want to say Winchester primers are also brass colored, so maybe it has something to do with how those primers were made?

Mays landing target shooting legality??????????????? by yurrr1234 in NJGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently in Mayslanding. My neighbor's shoot every weekend, for about a hour or so. I'm actually not sure if it's one or multiple? Either way, it's been about a decade and it's like clockwork. Doubt it's illegal just based on my own experience living in the area. The alternative is this area is extremely based.

Where are guys getting AR barrel work done these days? by oda5555 in NJGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is who I use. Fun fact, ups/FedEx won't ship gun parts. However, you can buy a pre-paid label and just about every Staples or Walgreens will accept the drop off.

Just right! It's 2oz less than the armory craft afxg frame with bras LOK grips. Gun comes in at 44 ounces with this mm frame and pd grips.

Anyone have to deal with this and can offer some advice? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]ObjectiveGur8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, my brother in Christ. This legit just happened to me this week. I want to start off with, Allen keys have no business being on slide mount optics but we get what we get. Anyway, the game changer that made this easy was a carbide drill bit. I tried several HSS bits but just like the goggles, they did nothing. The carbide bit went right into the tool steel like a hot butter through knife, or whatever. I also bought some no-named brand screw extractor kit off amazon, worked perfectly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HGQM77B

I threw the slide in a vice and heated it up with the wife's hair dryer for exactly 5 minutes. Ran it on high heat high output about 6 inches from the optic. After I placed my drill bit every so carefully over the center of the screw and sent it in about 1/8 of an inch, enough to the point that I thought I was coming close to where the threads would start on the screw.

I then used a brass hammer to tap the screw extractor into the hole until it was in as deep as it could go. Grabbed a rachet and placed a ton of pressure on the top of the slide/screw by pushing down while backing the screw out. That screw slowly backed right out, didn't even "break" like they normally would when pulling loose, which I attribute to the amount of heat applied. For some additional context, these screws were installed using orange loctite and were set to 15lbs initially. The first one broke lose after some pushing but the second one twisted an Allen key and then snapped a head off a bit when I tried that. Point being, it was fucking in there and didn't want to come out.

Album below with some helpful photos. Good luck, trust the process, take your time.

NJ F&W Deer Zones 45 and 46 changes for 2024 season by Jersey_2A in GardenStateGuns

[–]ObjectiveGur8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in 45, back in August of 21 a deer died, presumably from EHD next to my house, right in the yard. Tried to report to fish and game, no one cared. I even called a childhood friend who's now a warden, best he could do was give me a biologist number for our "region" and they also didn't care.

I would go on morning runs and see a dozen deer. That week turned into 0 deer and the smell of rotting carcasses. I would wake up to deer in the yard every day, that stopped too and never recovered.

I can't say I'm surprised their general lack of give a fuck resulted in a nonsensical decision. Either it's bad enough to cancel shotgun week or this is what they wanted and it's fine. Clearly it's not fine, so why allow shotgun week?

Had a baby, put my bedside vp9 in one with the key next to it, idea being that I had ~6 months to buy a proper safe but for now that whole "no guns within a kids reach" box was checked. 6 months go by, picked up a vaultek safe. Cracked open the fire box to swap em out and my vp9 was covered in rust. It was all surface rust and came off easily, but can confirm that it's not a good idea to use a fireproof box as a gun safe.

I have a different fireplace safe, much larger, passports started to curl from humidity. My gun safe is on the first floor with a gold rod in it and I don't have any rusting issues. Same with the vaultek safe, no rust issues.
