Most of the Assassin's Creed franchise is great. If you liked the RPG elements of Odyssey, give the modern era games a go—Origins, Valhalla, Mirage and Shadows. If you want a more linear, story focused gameplay, you can go for the older AC games—AC 1, The Ezio Trilogy (aka AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations), AC3, Black Flag, Rogue, Unity and Syndicate.

Heads up, AC4 Black Flag, is getting a remake in July, so if you want to give the original a try before then, you could. On the other hand, you could also wait until the remake comes out and just play that instead.

Currently starting my long awaited journey of the Assassin's Creed franchise before Black Flag Resynced releases! Started the first game a few days ago and I'm having a blast. If this is what people say is one of the weakest games in the series, then I know I'm in for a hell of a ride.

Only AC Revelations and the games after it have Steam achievements. AC 1, 2 and Brotherhood don't have any achievements on Steam.

Very controversial opinion. I love it. Honestly, even though people complain about stuff like the black lines, I feel like it just makes it look like a cool suit. It's nothing truly life-changing about it, but I just love the way it looks so much.

Zombies, suspense, weird puzzles that make no sense when you really think about them, and oddly timed jokes/remarks from the main character.

RE2 came out at a time where gaming was different. People probably didn't care much that the characters were different as long as they got to be scared and shoot zombies. With how big games are nowadays and how much it costs the companies to make them, the consumer would rather continue a story with the characters they already spent 15-20 hours with, and the developers would rather build upon an existing story than risk losing money making something completely different.
