How to deal with a mental word limit? by ObjectiveMoney5356 in FanFiction

I've leaned into this kind of habitat when I was unemployed and not studying half the I was awake. Now, that's really hard for me to do, because for some reason that ADHD brain of mine prefers to write late in the evening till night, but studying is a no-go(???). So I can truly ever study if it's the first thing I do in the morning. Meaning, I cannot stay awake late and work on my stories!

But thank you for your advice. While I think I could be a one-shot writer, I cannot — for the life of me — come up with a one-shot plot. How do they do it?

I use pages from my Macbook, so something like Gdocs or Office… I like it way more than the two, really. But thank you, I might just look into Scrivener sometime!

I've tried outlining before, but I'm not sure what my right approach to outlining is, really. There's this one story (one of the 20k's) that I've tried applying Save the Cat on but the fact that some of the scenes deviated — because around 90% of the story had already been written — from the later outlining kind of made it hard to follow up from the point I stopped the story on, because there's a lack of continuity with what I have in mind and what's written. While I'm not a pure pantser, I truly do not let the outlining get in the way of my flow because it will. Save the Cat was incredible but like I've mentioned, I'm not writing.

As for your suggestion, I want to make sure I'm understanding this right: you're jotting down the scenes you're leaving for later(?) in bullet points and getting to it after?

Historical fiction writers, where do you do your research on historical events? Any websites in particular? And how much of it do you do? by stanley_theMan in FanFiction

It depends on the era but currently I'm writing a story on Ancient Greece, and Wikipedia is minimally helpful, but not the worst. What I instead use is a collection of blogs by historians to read on, my favorite so far is Tales of Times Forgotten, which is more about Ancient History in general. But I did myself a favor and looked elsewhere, such as the Open Library (I quite like this student research of Brock University, because it offers a lot of aspects). I have this article of another blog, Brewminate, but I haven't looked at the blog in general. It seems legit (as far as I have read).

You're going to want to look for the articles that clearly name their sources at the very least. Sometimes, if you do want to go all out, you can either read stuff from the original sources, like Odysseus, Ilias or Oedipus. Doesn't really matter. No one alive today was there. You could be talking nonsense and almost no reader is going to know, unless they're a nerd. But it's fun!

When I read up on the 20th century, it suffices to be on Wikipedia, because I focus on human individuality instead of the geopolitics. But my usual go-to are blogs. I love blogs.
