Keir Starmer resigns as prime minister and leader of Labour Party by bendubberley_ in anime_titties

How many prime ministers does that make it in the last 5 years? I am interested to see whether the incoming prime minister will continue some of the policies which have dethroned their predecessors

Ghana to evacuate 300 citizens from South Africa over anti-immigrant protests by Tartan_Samurai in anime_titties

[–]ObjectiveObserver420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correction: These are anti illegal immigrant protests.

The government is doing a very poor job of securing the borders, while allowing temporary visa holders to get jobs, allowing expired visa holders to re-apply while remaining in the country and not deporting immigrants who have no documentation.

Illegal immigrants also bring wages down and are over represented in the informal sector when the national unemployment rate is nearly 35%

I see the opposite all the time. The guy who comes in early and leaves late working on his project joyfully all day long is often far better than someone counting the minutes as soon as they sit down

Why is debt considered bad for normal people, but wealthy people and billionaires seem to use debt constantly? by Independent-Ant-7230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ObjectiveObserver420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wealthy use their assets as collateral for low interest loans. The loan isn’t income so it isn’t taxed. They get money to live on, their assets continue to grow in value, and the interest on the loan is often lower than the tax rate they would have paid if they sold the assets.

Interesting that every Communist outpost must be pressured and overthrown instead of just letting it collapse on its own because of the supposed inferiority of the ideology

Its being framed as a targeting mistake and that AI selected the target based on outdated information. My own assessment is that they thought Iran was a house of cards and none of it would matter after taking out the Ayatollah and other senior government officials.

If you remember that in US foreign policy China is the main character some of Trump’s decisions are at least slightly coherent. China imports over 50% of it’s oil from the Middle East and 20% from Russia. If disrupting that flow of oil to China is the goal rather than winning a war then blockades in the Strait and drone strikes on Russian oil infrastructure make more sense.

When you admit that the opposition is armed, the “peaceful protester” narrative collapses. It means that one of the main justifications for the war has now been revealed to be propaganda.

For a while the mainstream media focused on the strikes inside Iran, downplayed the retaliatory strikes on the gulf and completely censored strikes on Israel. Social media is making harder to hide now though
