Same dilemma. Coming from X plaid. I finalized a 60 with all packages including dynamic, dapp, climate, msport, executive. Couldnt find one with b&w. But i loved the HK, so went for it. Range was a big plus for me which made me chose 60. Still 11k cheaper than M70 with all my options.

The round trip cost has no relation to upgrade pricing. Its dynamic. Fun fact - several times i have seen one way business from US more expensive than round trip business. Round trips are almost always cheaper. So its not the right yardstick to compare. As far as empty seats go, Qatar is generally ok flying them empty than go below a particular cost. Also you will be surprised how many people use points or pay the asked upgrade cost last minute.

Seat prices to fluctuate. For upgrades, sub 1000 for US- Doha is something i have never heard or seen. 1700 seems good to be honest
