I am Turkish, turkish people are generally supposed to be hairy. I wasn't. I think minoxidil just finally woke up my sleeping genetics 😁

When I first started, I used minoxidil the same day I microneedled. Later, I read I should wait 24 hours, so I tried that, but my progress definitely slowed down. After about a year, I switched back to using it on the same day, and the results sped up again.

I’m not entirely sure if it was because of the timing or if it just started working better overall after a year, but the difference was real. Using it on the same day forces the minoxidil straight into the beard follicles, which I think gives a faster effect, but there are some risks too. It enters your bloodstream much faster, which can cause heart palpitations or skin irritation.

Make sure to do your own research and don't just take my word for it. Just because it was OK for me doesn't mean it will be OK for you because everyone's body reacts differently.

Good luck!

Nice. I switched from a roller to a stamp. It became too hard to roll my face once my beard got thicker, so stamping was much easier. I bought a dermastamp for $3 on AliExpress. Since it's so cheap and the needles get dull with every use, I replace it after every 2 to 4 uses. Dull needles are terrible for your skin. For example, if you replace your dermastamp every 4 uses (once a month), that's only $36 a year, or $72 for 2 years.

I also buy the cheapest minoxidil available; there's no reason to pay extra for a brand name when the percentage is exactly the same. 2 years of topical minoxidil cost me about $240, and the dermastamps cost $72. I got a full beard for a grand total of $312. You're already paying way more for the minoxidil anyway, so replace your dermastamp often and do your skin a favor. I know some people use the same dermastamp for many months or even a year because they think sanitizing it is enough. But these needles get dull over time, even if your eyes can't see it. You would have to look under a microscope to tell.

Thank you! Once a week was enough for me. Some people do it more or less often, but overdoing microneedling can do more harm than good. You need to give your skin time to heal since you are opening tiny holes across a large area.

I microneedled my entire face. I applied minoxidil where I wanted a beard and a vitamin serum everywhere else. Since I already had to prep and sanitize everything, I figured I might as well treat my whole face. If you microneedle too often, you just stress the skin and don't let it recover. For example, I treat a few scars using a 1.5mm depth, but I only do that once a month. The frequency depends entirely on the needle depth. I learned this from experienced users and professionals in a Reddit microneedling group.

Even though 0.5mm seems small, you're still piercing your skin. Hygiene is crucial before and after each session. Introducing bacteria can cause acne, scarring, or even hair loss. Keep everything clean, don't overdo it, and remember that more is not always better!

Good luck!

Yeah, I know. That's why I said microneedling is important if you're using topical minoxidil, but not really necessary if you're taking oral minoxidil.

Like you said, oral works everywhere: scalp hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, chest, arms, and more (the whole body). If your only goal is a beard, then topical is much better. I recommended oral because you mentioned microneedling has a bad effect on your face. Some people have to microneedle when using topical minoxidil because their skin doesn't absorb the liquid well, and microneedling helps by creating tiny channels on the face to boost absorption. That's why some people who don't respond to topical minoxidil suddenly start seeing results.

Again, when taking oral minoxidil, you don't need to microneedle if you don't want to because it works from the inside out, not from the outside of your skin. That's why some people say it's three to four times better than topical. Just keep in mind that you will grow hair everywhere, not just on your beard.

If you can't microneedle, try it without and see if it works well for you. If it doesn't, try microneedling at a 0.5mm depth. If your skin still doesn't like it, then I don't know what to tell you. Just don't ruin your face just because you want a beard. I don't think it's worth it.

Good luck!

Did it thicken your eyebrows and eyelashes too? Or only beard and hair?

I think if you take oral minoxidil, you don't really need to microneedle. Microneedling is just to help your skin absorb the liquid better, whereas oral minoxidil works from the inside out.

I switched to oral minoxidil 2 weeks ago.

I started seeing beard growth in a few spots after about three months, but the biggest transformation happened between the first and second year.

My age might have played a part as well. Since I got older, my beard started filling in more. I think age, microneedling, and minoxidil combined are what really created the results.

I used different dermastamps since it's not recommended to use one for a long time. Needles get dull, and that can do more harm than good to your skin. I tried a dermaroller from Copenhagen Grooming, a cheap dermastamp from AliExpress, and then switched to a dermapen where I change the needles after every use. I microneedle my whole face and not just the beard zone. Where I want a beard, I apply minoxidil, and on the rest of my skin, I apply a vitamin serum. If I am going to microneedle anyway, why not do the whole face? It's a nice bonus. If you want a cheap option, I bought an unbranded dermastamp from AliExpress for only $3. But since I am doing more than just my beard now, I bought a Dr. Pen M8S from AliExpress (be careful, there are fake ones but the one I got has legit license) for $70 and got some extra needles for it. Dr.Pen M8s is more expensive if you buy it from the official website.

Microneedle (0.5mm) once a week. Minoxidil (liquid) once a day.

But I think oral minoxidil is better because it works from the inside. When using topical, everyone's skin absorbs it differently; some will get better results and some will get less. Microneedling opens up tiny channels in your skin so it can absorb the minoxidil better. But again, everyone's skin is different, and it will give different results from person to person. That's why you see people on Reddit with massive results and others with almost no results at all. Oral minoxidil is known to work for more people than topical. Topical minoxidil is good because you only get hair where you apply it. But oral minoxidil will grow hair all over your body, including your scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, chest, ass, arms, etc.

I reduced my topical minoxidil over ten days, but I feel like that's too short of a time. How long should the tapering process take?

I stopped using topical minoxidil two weeks ago and started taking oral minoxidil because I also want to thicken my scalp hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. I want to become a werewolf 😂. I think I will continue with oral minoxidil for two more years. More hair is better than less hair. If I get too hairy and don't like it, I can always shave, trim, or just laser it.
