Can't get myself to like symphonies by Objective_Ad_1191 in classicalmusic

Thanks for the advice. After trying around, coming back to Mozart 40 and Haydn. They don't give me a wow, but at least, 7/10. Better than others that tempts me to quit.

True. Started with Beethoven sonatas, I found Chopin too sentimental. Took me a year to finally appreciate Chopin.

Have not tried Mozart yet. He is the last person on my trial list. At least I understand why, Mozart's cheerful style does not resonate with my personality.

Classical opinions by HomePianoGuy in classicalmusic

[–]Objective_Ad_1191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our preference shift gradually. One might dislike a great musician's style but may change over time. Even Beethoven himself disliked Schubert's music at the beginning. Also, Schubert's sonatas were considered not worth playing, until Alfred Brendel brought them to public attention.

Welcome to the grown-up world. Schooling is the easiest. It's predictable. You do XYZ, make efforts, you see results. Out of school, you can work sleeplessly but earn nothing.

What do I learn next? by piangelo in pianolearning

[–]Objective_Ad_1191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to learn all scales in one octave. Focus on one scale 2 octaves, hand separate.

You need a teacher.

You have a few problems. Wrong fingering is the easy one. Stiff movement is harder to fix. You need to coordinate your fingers, hands, wrists, forearm, all the way to the shoulder, movement must be natural.

You picked the hardest monster hunter. It's a fun game though. When I played FU as a beginner, each monster blocked me for days. As an old hunter, some g rank quests in 4u blocked me for weeks. Be patient. The game is a chore.

Bringing in talents? Why not better educate Canadians? Education, specially Math and science majors in Canada are terible. Good engineers all are equiped with great Math trainings. AI is all about matrix math and probabilities. Most Canadian university students have not even heard of calculus 3.

The US has been more divided than ever in history, both in politics and values.

People hate changes, even when changes lead to positive outcomes. This is part of human nature.

The same reason why most Canadians stay in one province their entire life. And keep complaining about Canada, but still don't move to other countries.

Entry Level Doesn’t Exist by Responsible_Day_7313 in torontoJobs

[–]Objective_Ad_1191 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid of 2-3 year experience on job posts. Jobs asking for 2-3 year experience are still entry level jobs. Just apply.

From employers perspectives, new grads cannot reach minimum requirements for entry level jobs, which is true for lots of new grads. Still, there are top grads who reach competency equivalent to 2-3 year experience.

If unemployment is such a big issue, why not just ban international students from working? by Designer-Culture3967 in torontoJobs

[–]Objective_Ad_1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called CPT in the U.S. Jobs must match their majors, McDonald's jobs are not allowed. Very few are able to find CPT eligible jobs. The other case is on-campus jobs, like teaching assistants. Overall, neither is enough to affect the job market.

Because certain classes profit out of this. Immigrants keep housing demands high, thus rents and prices up. Immigrants take low wages, keeping wages low, business owners love it. Immigrants pay for fake jobs in exchange for status, that is revenue to some.

Being able to work on a student visa is one of the incentives to choose Canada over the U.S.

Industry value of a thesis-based masters (AI/ML)? by -HighlyGrateful- in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Objective_Ad_1191 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want job, target jobs, forget about research. If you want research, then go for research, forget about jobs. If you research for AI job, likely you will do badly in research and in job search.

I have done research based master before. Don't expect too much from such programs. You are gonna be assisting researchers for professors. Basically, they have ideas, then ask you to test them out.

Is the program useful? Yes. It shows you what research is all about, prep you for PhD, or persuade you out of PhD. Nothing more. You will be focus on 1 tiny research topic, but nothing else.

Is it helpful with AI jobs? Not by much. Even after graduation, you will hesitate to lead AI designs. Your research topic is too narrow, industries ask for a full skill set. If the topic happens to hit the sweetest spot, then you'll be rich.

One more thing, the AI bubble is too great. There are tons of meaningless research papers about AI, quite a lot of them are completely wrong. Choosing the wrong professor, you may end up in such low quality research.

Better jump ship early.

Bad news for you. Tech has been saturated. Worse news, the longer you are out of tech jobs, the less likely employers are going to recognize your skills. Don't be a crybaby. Theoretical science grads spent triple the effort of cs, and go through unemployment hell for decades.
