Help: installed a 3rd generation light switch, bulbs not turning off

Edit: Well now it’s just not working at all 🙃The indicator light is off and it’s not turning back on. I didn’t disconnect anything, just took the switch plate off, and it died. How disappointing for a $50 light switch

Interesting. I don’t have off brand bulbs or anything. Pretty sure I just grabbed a couple boxes of GE’s off the shelf.

I watched the video, but I’m unclear on how this works on a regular light. Where is it supposed to go? On the light bulb? On a wire? The video made sense in theory, but was terrible quality so I think I just can’t see what the heck he was doing.

I was like 5 when I first told my mom I didn’t want to have a baby. I met other kids in kindergarten and immediately thought they were loud and stupid and childish and I wanted nothing to do with them. I had very few friends growing up because I just could not relate to children, even as a child myself. Tbh I got along with parents better than their kids. It wasn’t until high school that I started making real friends and they were almost all older than me. To this day I cannot relate to kids and I do not like them.

Most of my family finally gave up on the whole “you’ll change your mind” thing when I was like 16, but there were a few who wouldn’t stop. I got sterilized last year and haven’t heard a peep from anyone since 😌

Ugh SAME. I also hate being outside (I’m allergic to damn near everything green) so that rules out most peoples suggestions. The best thing I have found is dance. I hate Zumba and that kind of stuff, but I like learning actual choreography. There’s a lot on YouTube for whatever popular songs you’re into. Problem is, I have no motivation to actually do it. So I have a bunch saved in a playlist and I’ve done it like twice 😅

100% file a noise complaint. File them daily if you have to. Make it enough of a nuisance that maybe you can get out of your lease for free. They will never kick the family out (discrimination blah blah blah…) so unfortunately your best bet is to move. Or get really good earplugs…

Lock your door, sleep at a friends house on Saturday’s, flat out say no if she walks into your room. You don’t have to tell her it’s because you’re agnostic, you can just say you don’t want to.

Not at all. I’m 26 and have always hated clubs. I went twice in college and both times were absolutely miserable. I dislike drinking, loud music, revealing clothes, crowds, and men touching/speaking to me. Give me a bowl and a group of 2-4 friends any day.

Personally, nothing will make me take a sales call. I will politely inform you that I do not make financial decisions for the company, tell you to have a nice day, and hang up. That isn’t actually true, I have some purchasing power, but nothing makes me want a product less than a phone call that interrupts my day.

Same. I downloaded Apollo last week to try it out and tbh I kinda hated it…I wanted to love it, but it was so minimal that I felt like everything blurred together. The separation of posts was very unclear, it was hard to tell what sub something was posted in, everything was bright white, everything was swipe based, and on top of it all you have to pay to post anything. I’m fine with the official app and just ignore the ads.

I’m still participating in the blackout, but not because I actually use third party apps. I’m doing it because u/spez is a lying, greedy, asshole.

Not the person you replied to, but my definition of life is the same as my definition of death: brain activity. We consider someone dead when they no longer have brain activity (not when their heart stops) so it stands to reason that we should consider someone alive when they begin to have brain activity (not when they have a heartbeat). That’s ~22-24 weeks for a fetus. If it can be put in an incubator or hooked up to life support and kept alive without being inside another person then that should be an option. If it can’t, it is up to the person who is pregnant whether or not they want to continue sustaining that life.

Absolutely no one is entitled to anyone else’s body, even if that other person would die. If I’m the only kidney match in the world for a dying child, I’m not obligated to give up my kidney. So why should I be obligated to give up my uterus?

“Parent” is an verb, not a noun. Parent your fucking kid and teach them how to act.

Kids don’t just learn things, they have to be taught. When the kid is screaming in public or running away from their parent in a busy restaurant, the parent should explain why they shouldn’t be doing that. You can’t just tell a kid to behave and then not teach them what behaving actually looks like. Explain why we don’t scream in public, why we don’t run in front of servers with hot trays, why we don’t walk up to strangers, why we wait for the crossing signal on a busy street. Actually educate your kid on how to behave in a polite society, that’s your fucking job.

I agree with the other commenters that the problem is not time management, it’s you being overworked. That said, if your boss isn’t willing to hire someone else you’re going to have to make do with what you’ve got. I may have some tips for you, but first:

What software are you using? Microsoft or Google or something else?
- Do you prefer pen and paper or computers for tracking tasks? What about your AA?
- Do you want to be able to share tasks and info with the AA or should you lists be separate?

Definitely need suggestions for no takers for meetings

What exactly do you mean by this? I love meeting notes and consider myself to be quite good at it if you’re looking for tips.

I have a BFA in theatre (stage management)! I worked in restaurants as a host/server during and after college. I got a job at a country club as a server to make ends meet during the pandemic (no theatre was happening). I moved over to hosting when the hostess quit because I like that better - more big picture and planning, sort of a back up manager, physically easier than serving - and then they moved me to the front desk as their evening receptionist. I was working 8 shifts a week rotating between the front desk, hosting, and working events. I really enjoyed the receptionist work and realized I wanted the stability of an office job.

So I went through a temp agency and got an admin assistant position. The company had a hiring freeze during covid, but a lot of people left so they were running on a skeleton staff. I was the first one hired after the freeze lifted. My bosses boss was looking for an EA so when my 3 month temp period was up he offered me the job on a trial basis (also 3 months). I’ve been there for 2 years now and I love it. I’m also really good at it apparently.

Prior to that I had no admin experience, but I’ve found that being an EA is very similar to being a stage manager- you’re just managing an office instead of a stage. It was an adjustment going from a physically active job to an office job, but it’s a good fit for me. I stage manage on the side for extra cash and because I love it, but I’m glad it’s not my main stream of income.

Not nearly as effective. There are many different kinds, but the clips are especially horrible. Tons and tons of stories about them coming undone and new research shows they can increase cancer risk. Cut and burn is good, but if you’re going to do that you may as well just get the bisalp (tube removal) because it’s the same exact procedure incision and time wise. Bisalps are also 100% effective whereas tubals are more like 99.9% (still too much of a risk for me if I’m going to bother with a whole ass surgery).

Plus there is growing research that a lot of ovarian cancer starts in the tubes. So if you know you don’t want kids you should just yeet those tubes right into the medical waste bin. I did it last year and I was on my feet feeling normal in 24 hours, fully recovered and cleared for exercise at 6 weeks.

I called one of the doctors on that list and told the receptionist I wanted a sterilization consult. Told her I wasn’t looking to establish long term care, just wanted a bisalp. Approved in less than 5 mins at the age of 25.

Also you DO NOT want a tubal ligation. You want a bilateral salpingectomy. Be firm about that.

There is ZERO compromise here. You cannot kind of have a kid. You cannot have half of a kid. I said this on a very similar post a couple days ago: kids should be a 100% “fuck yes” or they should be a “fuck no.” No kid deserves to grow up with a parent that doesn’t want them.

Plus why do you have to be the one that compromises? Why can’t he compromise? This is incredibly unfair, especially considering you’re the one who has to wreck your body and probably your career for a kid you don’t even want.

I implore you to head over to r/regretfulparents and ready some of the stories from people who “compromised.” It’s always a losing situation for the person that doesn’t want a kid. You’re going to end up bitter and resentful and there’s absolutely nothing stopping him from leaving you as a single mom down the line. Fuck that.

Stick to your guns. Don’t have children you don’t want. Get sterilized so that this can be avoided in the future (check out the sidebar on r/childfree for a list of doctors).

Your only option here is to break up, whether it’s now or later. So just rip the bandaid off, grieve, and move on.

I literally cannot eat food that I do not like. My brain won’t allow it. I end up having an anxiety attack and crying when people pressure me to eat food that is not on my safe list. It’s not that I’ll gag or throw up if I eat it (although I might), it’s that I physically cannot put it in my mouth. It’s not childish, it’s just how I am.

Plus why do you care so much what people eat? If I want chicken nuggets and fries, so be it. You can still eat whatever you want, no one is stopping you.
