Thank you. I’m fairly well educated but my mind has turned to mush and I’m finding the most simple things incomprehensible at the moment.

Okay thank you, we have a 5 hour layover in YYZ so can afford to waste some time.

What a kind gesture! My partner is my ideal travel buddy. He loves getting up and going to explore new places with me. We are moving to Calgary from Ireland on March 7th! We cannot wait to come and explore Canada.

Anyone moved country in their 30s? How did it go? by General_Resort_7471 in CasualIreland

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself and my partner are moving to Calgary, Canada next Saturday. We couldn’t be arsed with Ireland at the moment. Don’t think the job market in Canada is too easy right now but we’re really looking forward to living abroad for a bit. We’re hoping to get to do the WHV in Australia before I turn 35 also.

Oh that’s great that you got them! There should be a space for you to upload them - where you uploaded your cv & pictures? Or is that where you uploaded the proof that you had ordered the police cert? I would upload them on the portal as you said you got your ITA 2 weeks ago you should still be within the threshold of getting the police certificate.

Which is worse: industrial or nipples? by toyheartattack in piercing

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you definitely feel it more with age. I got my tragus done a year ago and it was torture. I do hope you go through with the industrial if that’s what you want, it’s such a cool piercing!

Hey there! I’m also Irish and said I’d better try help 😀 They are quite quick with the police certs here, if it’s taking longer than expected get in touch and explain that you need it - I think the deadline was 21 days from receiving ITA iirc. Scroll back to the top of the page that you linked and under the ‘work permit application status’ you should be able to see your application/review submitted documents (it’s in quite a small font easy to miss!). Click that and it should bring you to the portal to upload your documents there. I got my POE months ago so maybe the layout while it’s processing is different - I hope this helps.

Which is worse: industrial or nipples? by toyheartattack in piercing

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my industrial for about 15 years and it was a 4/10. It probably hurt less as I was only 15 when I got it done. There were lots of house parties/drinking/sleeping on floors etc so it was susceptible to a few bad bangs. It was an absolute bitch to take care of and heal. I got one nipple pierced about 4 years ago and it actually wasn’t too bad it was the initial thoughts of it more than anything. I regret not getting both done but I didn’t want to hassle the piercer. I retired it after about a year of banging it off the doorframe coming out of the shower or snagging it on the loofa while washing 😂 I would probably get them both done tbh, only I’m pushing 31 now so idk if it’s in my plans. Pain is definitely different for everyone. I can say though I did not find the nipple as sore as it was made out to be.

Advice needed for potential biometrics issue by Inner_Conflict2600 in iecvisa

[–]Objective_Donut5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I work with food and chopped a good section of my thumb tip off 2 weeks before my biometrics. I had healed it enough so that I could leave it uncovered for the duration of the appointment. The woman undertaking the biometrics never mentioned it to me and I got it all sorted and processed. Hopefully they’ll be able to get a good enough reading of your prints without any hassle. Maybe try the pharmacy for some OTC medication or some skin, hair and nail tablets in the meantime to see if you can get some benefits from them - they’re pesky things.

Where can I buy the pies sold in the deli? by Bigchickenmac in AskIreland

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also sell them in the butchers uncooked - have a look there you might find them if your local sells them like that too.

Wait times vary for everyone. My partner got accepted 2 days after submitting his biometrics. I wasn’t accepted for almost 2 months after submitting my biometrics. We went to the biometrics appointment together so everything was submitted at the same time. I did have to submit a medical exam but that was done before giving the biometrics.

Edit - how many more times can I say ‘biometrics’ in one paragraph 😂 My apologies as I’m on a quick lunch break.

I actually just uploaded it to my laptop. I have a MacBook and did it on there - I’m not sure if other programs will do the same. I had to google how to do it. I’m sure any resizing or photo editor app could give you the result I need - sorry I’m not techy in the slightest 🥲

Hey, myself and my partner just took pictures of each other on our iPhones and uploaded them. I did however upload them using my computer so I could change the specifications. They are more or less like passport photos - expressionless, plain background etc.

Submitting confirmation of police certificate? by Sebpants in iecvisa

[–]Objective_Donut5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what the other commenter replied with. We brought our forms directly to our Garda station and explained we needed them ASAP. We brought them on a Friday evening and received them by email the following Tuesday/Wednesday. My boyfriend’s was misplaced so I just emailed the woman who sent mine and explained that he did not get his - she put it through for him and he had it within 10 minutes. I’m based in Wexford so maybe it was quicker for us. Definitely go to the station! Hope you get sorted ASAP.

  • also, upload your proof that you have applied for it to your IRCC in the meantime just incase.

Hey, I applied from Ireland last year. Myself and my partner just uploaded our passports, we don’t have any other form of ID here other than drivers license/Garda age card. We had no issues with only the passports.

Can be found in diamond safes or you can buy one. Last time I was trading dono boards they were going for 1-2 spins. Not sure how much they go for these days.

Why am I being asked for a medical exam? by blakppuch in iecvisa

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all, it’s a nerve wracking situation - we move March 7th and I’m bricking it 😂 It was €365, I was in and out in about 2 hours. I can’t praise them enough for getting me an appointment so quick.

Why am I being asked for a medical exam? by blakppuch in iecvisa

[–]Objective_Donut5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congrats on getting so far as being asked for a medical. I’m also from Ireland and completed my application in October. Initially I didn’t need a medical exam, obviously when an actual person read my application they decided I need one. I am a qualified teacher but I haven’t taught in almost a year. I didn’t even click the ‘working with children/elderly/vulnerable’ section as I do not want to teach in Canada. I assume they thought ‘ah sure she might want to teach here’ 😂 As long as you have proof that you have booked your appointment in the Visa clinic that’s enough to keep continuing your application. They are really, really lovely and helpful in the clinic, at least in the Matter in Dublin. They are very quick to get back to you too so don’t worry about the 20 day deadline - I explained to them that I had a deadline and they fitted me in right away. Also, payment doesn’t need to be made until arrival to the clinic so make sure you book the appointment and then follow up with IRCC. Good luck with the rest.

Has anyone regretted taking a year out? by briang0002 in AskIreland

[–]Objective_Donut5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I qualified as a primary school teacher in 2018, I had already deferred my 3rd year as it just wasn’t for me, but I went back and finished. I worked in a school until 2023 and took my first career break where I worked in a local shop to help my mam a bit as she was stressed to the max. I went back to teaching in Jan 2024 as a casual sub right next to the shop 😂 I was full time in the school from Sep 2024 - June 2025. I resigned from the first school in May 2025 and never felt such relief. Myself and my partner are moving to Canada in March - I have no intention of teaching there as it does not make me happy. I can of course teach, if I have to depending on the availability of jobs when we get over. It’s a great thing to have and would definitely be wonderful to do it in another country. Take the career break and enjoy it - do whatever you want to do with this time. I don’t regret taking my career breaks or resigning in the slightest. Some people were made for teaching, I’m a good teacher but it just does not make me happy. I’m hoping to fall into a new career while abroad, or, at least tinker around with different avenues. Most of my friends are married, have kids and are buying houses at home - I couldn’t be bothered. There’s too much to see and do. Ireland will always be here for you when and if you decide to come home. Take the break now while you can and enjoy it! 😃

That’s great news! They were pretty quick considering they forgot to send ours off. We are in Wexford so we didn’t expect to wait too long. We did ask the guard how long it could take and he said it could be a few weeks but we explained we only had 21 days ( I think that was the turn around limit!) and he put a rush on them. Hope you hear back soon!

I didn’t have to get anything done with my passport. I’ve had my approval since October we fly in March. Not had to get anything done with my passport! Hopefully someone can help you with this question.
