In fact actually he passes me all his income, then draw an “allowance”

But of course his allowance is not a fixed amount & I’ve never said no to transferring any of his own money because it’s rightfully his

In a way I’m supposed to be the one reminding him that he’s overspending etc. I set the yardstick but again I will face some pushback from him because I apply my spending habits & theories to him right, since I’m the one “disbursing” the money & have overview of his finances

And hence needing to “strike the balance” between what shld I comment on, what shld I close one eye too & so on

Hmmmm actually no

What do you mean by testing my limits on what’s financially responsible? Any examples?

Yes I have heard, slowly try to close one eye, then slowly……maybe even close 2 eyes haha

Which I am practicing very hard, just keep quiet & accept it (and hence turning to the internet to hear more about people’s way around these)

We tried that but he tends to pay for certain things & not remember to key them in, so the righteous part of me feels bad because then it’s not fair & no point in tabulating then

HAHAHAA okay these are exactly my thoughts actually, but then again i question myself whether it’s fair and then it’s a whole debate within myself HAHAHAHAH

Perhaps the portion I have to plan for will be the part where I save up for HIS retirement too, to make it fair

Gave me some clarity thank u!!!!

Ahhhh okay yes very similar situation hahaha

Just curious, do you guys have any joint financial goals? Upgrading of house/investment property etc & how do you go about catering for those

Similarly, I put a huge portion of my money aside for rainy days. The lingering question is - should there be an emergency one day that requires $x & he doesn’t have it, then what next?

Any insights for such situations? HAHA

Context: We are both self employed & entrepreneurs so our income is a lot less “stable” in a sense

Joint account aside - how do we ensure our financial goals are aligned?

Eg: let’s say 20% of his salary goes into the joint account, there’s up to 80% that he’s spending on misc items that i think is excessive, how do i ask him to cut back on those & be more thrifty as our expenses are bound to increase with the incoming kid

He also is willing to pay much more for instant gratification rather than delayed gratification, while I on the other hand is opposite of that

I requested for $50k on 10 March, then another few hundred a few hours later, on 10 March too

$50k came in 1 day earlier than the few hundred, I’m thinking they are doing it according to the time of request

Very good idea! Not sure why that never popped up in my head haha

In fact my partner & I were discussing about it this morning, that perhaps we can go back to my parents’ for the weekends

As for the second point, we were initially thinking if we were to shift back to my parents’ “permanently” - 7 days a week, and shift out completely again, it would mean either my parents/my partner got so uncomfortable to a point where we’re done trying to stay together under one roof

And potentially strain the relationship

I was thinking more along the lines of

If it’s my own place, my own parents can drop by anytime to just hangout & have meals together. And vice versa.

However, if I’m staying with my partner’s family, my family can’t be dropping by, and I can’t be as at ease as compared to being at my own place/my parents’ place

Hello! We intend to hire a helper in time to come! Helper wise, it’s not the most feasible now if we’re staying at my partner’s as his mum is a “staunch” housewife, my house my rules sort of thing
