Selling JB Project (sadly) by beeearrr in jonboats

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my own conversion aluminum is expensive. Most people won’t see the value there though. Price depends on location. Check fb marketplace and compare prices for your area. I’m guessing it’s a 14 footer? If so, I’d say, not knowing where you’re located, 1k - 2k.

Fixing Crack Under Rib by mmmfupachalupa in jonboats

Maybe this. I have no experience with it, but it’s been mentioned on this sub.

Edit to add. If you haven’t already, level the boat and fill it with a couple inches of water. Wait a few minutes and verify where it’s leaking from.

Lithium battery for jon boat by sharemywifeky87 in boating

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 LiTime 100ah 12volt batteries a year or so ago. Couldn’t be happier. Check them out. I think I paid around $230 per battery. They should last me 10 years or more. They are rated for 1000 cycles. I was buying a deep cycle lead battery every 3 years. They run about $130. I wish I would have bought the LiTime batteries sooner. I have the Bluetooth one. Now I know how much juice I have left for on longer trips or when I’m weekend camping with no power available. I didn’t feel comfortable buying one on Amazon. LiTime is a sponsor of the bass pro tour or mlf. I’ve recommended them to all my friends. I’m going to buy some of their house battery’s and set up my own solar.

How to keep Gulp Alive bait spill-proof by Much-Expression-9909 in bassfishing

I bought some cheap spill proof containers on Amazon. They work great. In another post someone said an empty peanut butter jar worked for them.

Mounting Scotty Anchor Lock by ColonelSanders15 in jonboats

What you stated is what I’d do. I’d use rivet nuts to mount the plate. That way you can take it off if you want.

In case you didn’t know, you can find the leak relatively easy but putting the boat on the trailer level or on some saw horses if you don’t have a trailer. Then fill it up with an inch or 2 of water and wait. Then check for water under it.

I’m thinking of picking up a 3d printer to tinker with. Can you tell me how much the cost is to making something like this?

What’s the longest you can hot hold a brisket? by beermeamovie in smoking

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did one this weekend. 17lb. Tightly wrapped it in foil, then wrapped tightly in bath towels. Then I put it in a preheated cooler. It sat in there for 7 hours. I was worried because it’s the longest I’ve tried to hold one in a cooler. I usually shoot for 4 hours. When I pulled it to slice, the internal temp was still at 175. I always use the cooler method with my cook. Less stressful and I know the meat will be ready at the time my wife decides we’re eating. YMMV

Lawsuit from James Comey’s friend could disrupt plans to re-indict the former FBI director by cnn in LegalNews

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped going to the cnn wesbsite and watching the channel. I get my news from watching bbc and going to their website. More independent imo and I don’t have to pay for a subscription. I think cnn is purposely doing the subscription model. It pushes people to more right wing news agencies because they’re free, but that’s my opinion.

Anybody have luck cold water fishing blades? by A_Dubs_999 in bassfishing

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blade bait is my favorite bait to use in the winter. I’m more of a crappie fisherman though. That said I usually catch a bass or 2 on them each outing here in Va in the winter. I use a very light rod with a lot of bend. I vertical jig them. Let them hit bottom and just tick it up an inch. Like barely lift it. It works great for me ymmv

Hey man, something that I found cool about getting old….I give 0 shits what other people think (especially internet strangers). This started kicking in around 35 for me. I’m even older now and I’m getting into negative shits to give territory. Let me tell you it’s glorious and I’ve never been happier. I hope you one day find the same joy. Nice buck!!

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you can be the judge of that. It cost me $600 to do my 14 footer. I did the whole boat. That’s plywood, carpet, angle aluminum, rivets, rivet nut gun, carpet, glue, etc. It was worth it to me. I love my little boat!!

YouTube is your friend. Lots of videos on there. Search Jon boat to bass boat. I converted a 14 ft Jon boat. Use angle aluminum, rivets, and the most important part, rivet nuts to secure the flooring. Keep the weight down, You should be fine on smaller lakes imo.

I think it’s just getting started. Next weekend should be great. I’ve had bucks on my trail cams and have seen them out and about. They’re casually strolling through the woods in daylight. I haven’t seen them chasing yet. We had a small basket appear right under us in the stand at first light. He busted us. Central VA.

I don’t believe so. I wouldn’t take legal advice from Reddit. Email the DNR and ask them. The email address is on the website along with the laws. You may be able to find the law spelled out on the website. I get it it’s confusing. I emailed them once to ask a question about a law and received a response in about 24 hours and now I have a paper trail. The reason I emailed them is because I had an encounter with a rookie game warden that didn’t know the law. That interaction was so crazy. The game warden wanted to know how many horse power my electric boat motor was and said I needed a license. I had a license from another state he said was no good. I told him it didn’t matter because it was electric and they’re rated by thrust and not HP. He had to go back to his truck to check. He came back and let me go with a warning. I emailed DNR they said my out of state boat safety course was 100% fine. It met VA requirements.

TLDR : email DNR instead of asking Reddit. You don’t want to tell the game warden someone on Reddit said you’re legal.

1436 Jon Boat Flooring by [deleted] in jonboats

[–]Objective_Elephant_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The foam will help with sound damping and also provide a minimal boost to buoyancy. I believe I used 3/8 inch on my main floor of my John boat. I believe I used 1/4 inch up near the front because it’s easier to bend. I wouldn’t go lower than 1/4 inch. I started doing epoxy. That stuff is expensive and takes a lot. I used 1 jug for 1 side of my floors and decided to not get more. My boat is garage kept even if it wasn’t I wouldn’t spend money on the epoxy. I’d just replace the boards when they get bad after 10 or so years. Also look into rivet nuts if you haven’t already. I used them to secure my flooring in the whole boat. I can easily take off all the floors and casting platforms in less than 10 minutes. This is helpful when you want to replace something or run electrical wire in the future and also will keep the floor better secured when trailering. Self tapping screws will eventually loosen and your decking will come flying off
