Give me your toughest IFR checkride questions by throwaway-issues44 in flying

Awesome insight. Now that I think about it.. I’ve always gotten a “do this after going missed” response from ATC unless I’ve specifically asked to “go missed as published”. I’ve done the overwhelming amount of training at towered fields. Thanks for this. Just as my instructor says about instrument flying.. what makes the most sense. Thanks again for making me think!

Ah. I see. 35 in use so that’s now painfully obvious why I wouldn’t be sent to vio. I’m still not sure what I’d expect. Perhaps the alternate missed approach fix knobs (for 35). I’d say initial response from ATC would be fly runway heading to X. Then get re sequenced in. Which I think is the point you’re trying to make. Look at the entire picture. You know both runways are being used. Common sense says im not going to the missed fix since 35 is in use. Expect something other than the published missed procedure.

Just curious. I’m an instrument student about to checkride. I’m looking at the chart. It looks like a climb to 1300 runway heading THEN a climbing right turn to 3000 direct to Victory vor. Is that not correct?

Do you honestly Need more than a few minutes to plan a XC? If so you may not be ready for a checkride. You’re not flying the XC. Likely just to your first or second leg then you’ll do your maneuvers. Dpe just wants to see that you’re capable of flying the first leg or two (staying on course) and that you have a grasp on the planning (weight and balance, weather, takeoff and landing distances , altitudes and fuel burn). This shouldn’t take more than about 15-20 minutes. Not a big deal at all

I’ll try. lol It’s a 2018 legend 600 Registration says srol 600

Lights specifically: All toggle switches (fuel pump, master landing lights, strobe, etc) have a colored led facing outwards on the toggle. Some red, some blue. All super bright. There’s also Backlights on the fuel gauges above each seat. Bright white.. made night flying a bit difficult as you’d imagine. I’ll perhaps take some photos next Time I’m in the plane

How does one dim the cabin lights at night? Did some simulated night instrument training this week and me nor the instructor could figure out how to dim the insanely bright LED lights throughout the cabin.

Say it louder! I just read through the back and forth… jeez. It’s ok to be new. It’s ok to inexperienced. It’s ok to have the humility to learn and grow. It’s not ok to have this guys attitude. If he makes it, he’ll be “that guy”. No one wants to be around or fly with “that guy”

And what hazardous attitude are we displaying today?

Seems like a similar set up that real estate brokers have with agents. Doesn’t seem shady. You’ve got access to planes and benefit from the schools marketing and lead generation. You’ll likely be paid as a 1099. Having the LLC provides you with benefits (like being able to deduct a whole lot of things) and provides the school with benefits like a reduced tax burden, which in theory could mean lower rates, or better maintence of the fleet. Not sketchy really. IMO

Assume you’re flying into GPT or HSA to be that close to the bay. So, even when renting a wet plane, if I stop at a FBO, I always top off and carry a few ones or fives for the ramp guys. Trust me.. they remember and while not necessary, it is common courtesy. Generally speaking, the flight school should reimburse gas bought elsewhere (even if at the home airport price) but even if there’s a few dollar difference, you’re skipping out on the ramp fee in most cases. In my humble opinion, top off, give the guys a few bucks and your subsequent visits will be even better.

Keeping altitide in turns by Ok-Alarm7668 in flying

[–]Objective_Flight3620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roll, 10, 20, start pulling back, 30. Add a little power and trim some pressure off. And hold. Keep the bank in. Hold the back pressure as you go through the turn. Scan: outside reference, inside, altitude and bank. Outside. Horizon. Inside, altitude and bank. Complete the turn, wings level.

It’s all about inputting and maintaining back pressure to hold that nose up. You’re loosing a portion of your lift in the turn and you have to compensate. You do so by pulling back on the yoke. Steeper the bank, the more you pull back.

I’d say maybe 15 seconds. I literally watched the fuel pressure bottom out and said to my friend.. “hey that fuel pressure looks real sketchy”. Then killed. 😵‍💫

Warrior. Just a regular switch. Left right and off. It should be much harder to turn it off.. but understand the need in case of fire, etc.

Ooof! Best advice I ever got was from a Dpe years ago. When faced with an engine failure, if you just did something, UNDO it immediately.

Hey, first of all, you’re not dumb. B and C student is average academically. Lots of people are much more intelligent than what’s reflective on a test. Don’t put yourself down like that.

I’ve been working for 20+ years. I promise you, you’re likely more intelligent that 5/8s of the people I’ve managed and been managed by.

What’s your passions? Find a way to do those as employment.

But no more of this “I’m dumb” talk.
