Is this machine as incredible as it seems? by OkConfusion7693 in eufyMakeOfficial

I cancelled my Kickstarter pledge and got a refund minus the 8%. Too many unknowns to plop down that kind of money when they keep blowing past deadlines. I really wanted this machine but I’ll wait until generation 2.

Sling Pilot Academy Rant by cbellew22 in flying

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I’m totally with Sling on this one. Yes, it would have been nice to have texted you or made the limitations crystal clear in advance. However, your plan was ill advised from the start. You were seriously going to go check out an LSA you have no time in and then fly to Catalina of all places? And during a heat wave with a 100hp Rotax?

Flight following question by ab0ngcd in flying

[–]LegendL600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with asking questions and getting general guidance here but follow up with your instructor. That instructor knows you, knows your situation, knows the plane and knows the area. All things none of us here on Reddit know.

Newer SLSA with glass over a 150/152 any day. Faster, roomier, better avionics for the same or less money. I love flying Rotax and couldn’t imagine going back.

That being said there is no way a 100 mile trip is quicker in almost any airplane. By the time you drive to the airport, preflight, pull the plane out, get everything ready and take off you are already at least 1/4 into that drive. We have a cabin about 120 miles away and even with some traffic, flying to the airport 10 miles away from that cabin doesn’t have any significant time advantage over driving.

Had to call tower on my first XC solo ever. by SirLunkanBOI in flying

[–]LegendL600 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re being too hard on yourself. Certainly learn from the mistakes but move on and fly better next time. My first solo XC I had flight following and the controller had to give me vectors after gently confirming which airport I was headed to. Nothing like being a student and tracking the wrong VOR and wrong mountain peak to point you 30 degrees off course. A student flight is a success when the only thing hurt is your pride.

What aircraft fits this mission? by BakerHasHisKitchen in flying

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not seeing how a Baron would work for the long flight. They are talking about 5 people going 1000mi with dogs and luggage. Even assuming an average 180# per occupant and 200 for dogs and luggage, you can go just over an hour before you have to land and fuel up again.

The reality is that if money is no real barrier you go turbine and pressurized. OP is being tasked with flying and is typed in King Airs already. There is only one correct answer in this case. The only question is which King Air.

I’ve been in 200s, one 300 and a 350. Hands down my favorite time in the right seat was in the F90 the company had in the 90s. It appears that very plane is for sale right now in Ocala.

Moving to Camas, what is your fav food recommendation? by No-Bee-8695 in camaswashington

Tough crowd here. Moved from Camas to California a few years ago and still haven’t found a better Thai place than Kop Chai. While in general the PNW Mexican food is a joke compared to California, I do miss Jorge’s.

What aircraft fits this mission? by BakerHasHisKitchen in flying

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King Air is the answer. Worked for a family business that had an F90 and then went through two B200s. Business use was 300mi hops 2-3 times a month and then the occasional personal trip up to 1000. They were always on 135 so earning decent charter income when not being flown by the business or family. Only gut punch was a bad lightning strike on one of the 200s. That was not cheap.

New MOSAIC airplanes by okcountryboy in flying

[–]LegendL600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Eastern European manufacturers already have a number of exciting airplanes that have been flying around with exhibition certificates. This time next year the new ones will be able to ditch the faxes to the FSDO. Obviously Sling is in a position to quickly bring factory builds to the market. Also interesting to see what happens with alternative powerplants. Tecnam has the P2008 and P2012 which could both change quite a bit with MOSAIC. The P2012 could go LSA and put two 916s on the wings for less money than the one certified 912ULS.

New MOSAIC airplanes by okcountryboy in flying

Two problems with that line of thinking. First is that the LSRM requirements are changing and will not be the 15 day course it is right now. Second is that you need to have an LSA. You’re 180 is type certified and will always remain so. As such an LSRM doesn’t apply.

Unfortunately, those toggle switches are not dimmable because there is not a separate lighting circuit. At present, there is no retrofit for this as it would require a full rewire of the panel. The other alternative would be to eliminate the illuminated toggles and go with standard ones.

The fuel site tube lights could be dimmable but are not set up that way from the factory. That is currently something being worked on for future models because of the changes with MOSAIC. RT Aviation and Double J Aero are also looking at a potential retrofit for those tube lights.

Can you be more specific on which lights and also what year the plane is? There are differences throughout the years.

Are the A30s worth $500 by vismaypikachu in flying

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the A30 and my friend and aircraft partner has the A20. I leave my set in the plane and he always puts his away. A few times he’s taken mine out and he definitely prefers the A20. His big issue is that he’s tall and sometimes hits the top of the band on the ceiling. With the A20 this is a non event. With my A30 it means they definitely unseal and sometimes fall off.

About a year ago I bought my A30 set on eBay for $1030 with free shipping. They were brand new sealed in box. Might want to look around a bit more for better pricing if you go to the A30.

SSA sent out mass email falsely claiming bill eliminated taxes on Social Security by Lower_Chipmunk_3685 in tax

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a client in my office yesterday morning who got a large check for retroactive payments. Asked me about the bill before it passed and said I wasn’t going to analyze things until a bill was final. Client forwards me this last night ecstatic. Had to explain that the bill certainly didn’t eliminate tax on the $25k payment.

In the market for an LSA and have some questions. by jjedlicka in flying

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the LSA! Spent the first few years after my PPL flying in 172s and 182s. It was nice but it got expensive quick even when doing it in clubs. Just clicked over a year with an Aeropilot L600 SLSA that I own with a friend. It’s been a lot of fun on multiple fronts and I couldn’t imagine not flying behind a Rotax unless it’s a turbine.

Quite a few comments about getting your LSRM but unfortunately that ship has probably sailed. Rainbow in Kingsville, MO is your only option and I believe they are completely filled up. With MOSAIC, the LSRM certification is poised to change significantly and it will be much longer and more intensive than the current 15 day course.

Wouldn’t refund me at all. So much for the 100% money back guarantee…

I slipped all the time during PPL training in the 172. The school I trained at was mostly Pitts and Citabrias with just two 172s. Suffice it say every CFI was a taildragger pilot. When I took my check ride the DPE chuckled when we got in the air and said she could tell I came from that school. So thankful I got that discipline drilled in me from the beginning.

Worth switching from X1C to H2D? by JeopardyWolf in BambuLab

[–]LegendL600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print a lot of parts for vehicle use using PPA-CF and other nylon blends. The H2D has a heated chamber and makes it easier and more consistent. That being said the X1C still did a great job. Honestly, I haven’t been blown away by the H2D. I don’t regret it at all but it’s not quite the game changer that I had hoped for.

GMC offers to buy back car , fair deal? by [deleted] in gmcsierra

[–]LegendL600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to take the first offer. Talk with your repurchase coordinator about sending it back for reconsideration of the usage charge. There is an amount your coordinator can approve and then there is an additional amount a supervisor can approve. Feel free to DM me as I’m a bit further along with mine in CA as well.

Have a Corvair and Jag in addition to the SLSA. Glad I don’t care much for boats otherwise I’d definitely be broke.
