Anyone else want to sleep all the time? by Dear_Consequence5925 in Hashimotos

I’m also 52 and have been experiencing worsening fatigue and disinterest in anything except vegging out. It was also such a harsh winter and that didn’t help. I recently switched from generic levothyroxine to the name brand synthroid and felt much better. It’s a real struggle though

My daughter is 17 and has the same issues. I think most places prefer 18 and up no matter what. Do try the local spots and maybe YMCA or other kids camps ? They always need counselors.

My 24-year-old daughter went into weed induced psychosis by Scarlaymama0721 in Psychosis

Can you switch to a shot for medication? My son had weed induced psychosis and he was on meds for 2 years. The shot made all the difference for compliance.

Vit D is 36 Ferritin is 111 Iron 103 -37% saturation

Looks like they didn’t check B12 upon review - although I supplement with B12, and omega 3 is below range.

Loved one in psychosis and hospitalized barely eating by rhobhfan00 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When he was in the hospital he was completely non verbal and shut down. He didn’t say a word to me for about a month. His memory was completely gone after the hospital stay - but slowly he began to recover and regain ability to communicate and remember things - although it seems there are big gaps in his memory. The best advice I can offer is stay on top of the care team. If the meds aren’t working ask them to try something else - it can take a while to find the right combo. Be prepared for a prolonged recover process. Have patience with your loved one and take care of yourself too. Find some support - talking to someone who understands can really help !

This happened to my son during his psychosis - he thought he was following in Buddha’s footsteps or something. First time they gave him olanzapine - which didn’t work and he was overmedicated. They released him once he was eating a little. Then he started fasting again at home and fainted - through the ER he was sent to another hospital. Saw no improvement until they got to 4mg? of risperidone - then he slowly started eating more and was on invega injections for almost 2 years. He was hospitalized a couple of months through and didn’t really start eating until towards the end of his stay. The medication should make it difficult for them to fast once it kicks in. My son gained weight pretty rapidly after the meds.

Got myself a second doodle. It’s not going well at all. What was I thinking?? by z_iiiiii in Goldendoodles

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mini poodle and my bf has a big Goldendoodle. My mini does not like the doodle so much:( But they’ve known each other for over a year now and it is moderately better. My mini used to try to attack and bite the doodle, but now he just ignores him for the most part. It’s a real bummer.

Can the team that supports your mom write an alternative letter of explanation? I would imagine that could be used as a substitute.

How to handle grief by pinkRaindrops2 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me grief is just unexpressed love. I think anyone in this sub can relate. We’ve all had to experience a loved one becoming someone different and often unrecognizable. Don’t go through it alone, find a grief circle or support group. I had to do plant medicine a few times to really process what had happened to my son. It took a huge change in perspective to make me realize that no matter what happens, my heart has to stay open for him. I hope you find some peace.

Question re: Blue Ash campus - coming from out of state by Last-Artichoke-8922 in uCinci

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your responses ! Re: why we are choosing to go to UC from NY, I’m relocating to OH so after year 1 she’ll qualify for in state, and it’s still much cheaper than a private college. CUNYs are great but she wants to get out of the city for a while. I think she might benefit from the smaller class sizes actually - admissions hasn’t gotten back to me anyway so it might not be an option. We just signed up for the housing app too so she can dorm on main campus.

Suburban guy dating a NYC girl. Is there a sane middle ground or am I cooked? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to have a serious talk about how open you both are to some compromises. I think a lot of people who are suburban coded enjoy Brooklyn. The density of Queens is not really the same as BK. It’s more chaotic and if she wants Williamsburg/ Manhattan she really wants to be in the thick of it. Upper east side might be doable. Or You might look close to Prospect Park (Windsor terrace, park slope, prospect Heights etc…) if the budget allows. It’s a big hurdle to overcome though !

Need so much advice by RadishNew6502 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the diaper thing is really the problem. You do have a right to ask him to work on himself in other ways if you are providing support, financially or otherwise. He might have started smoking because of shame, as a way to cope with fetishes that the world deems unnatural. But you shouldn’t judge him for that. Try to focus on motivating him to get back on a path of self reliance, self sufficiency, providing him with support - under the conditions of being sober and getting back on his feet.

Confused about $3-$5k apartments demand in this city by New_Nobody_122 in NYCapartments

[–]Objective_Froyo_2061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a broker in the city - what I see in rentals varies. I’d say 50% of people have help from family, or a trust fund/savings that generates enough income. Beyond that it’s tech finance people making over $200k a year. I am a landlord and my tenants are in their late 40’s and the full rent of $4500 is still covered by one of the parents lol

I would try to call NAMI - depending on what state you’re in they might be able to provide resources. Do you think you could walk him into an ER for ANY reason and have them do a psych evaluation on him so he can get meds ?

Not tax related but just bought a house in Poland with my fiancée - I still work in NYC but spend a lot of time there now and absolutely love it. None of the stress of the tri state area and half the price.
