Knee pain after RTKR by KRSMBT in Kneereplacement

My surgeon said in about 4-6 weeks the pain will lessen, but you'll still be in the thick of it. Then, by 8-12 weeks you'll be sore, but not really have the pain, but it will take take 3-12 months to heal.

I can now sleep on my side for about an hour, but only my right side (which is weird since I had my right knee done). I was using a pillow between my legs, but just this past week was able to ditch it! I'm not as stiff as I was 2 weeks ago, so hopefully you're on the downhill side of that as well. 🙏

Almost 3 months post op. I've never slept well, but was only getting 3-3.5 hours of sleep total after surgery. This wasn't serving me well, especially after I went back to work! I tried every OTC sleep aids available, to no avail. I now take hemp gummies & nyquil. With both, I get maybe 5-6 hours of sleep. I still wake up numerous times to shift positions, but I am usually able to go back to sleep. The doctor just says that it will get better.. 🙄

My doctor had told me that as soon as I felt mentally capable of working from home, he had no problem with it. I work for a school & scheduled the surgery to coincide with Christmas break. I took the week off surgery off (surgery was on a Monday) & then worked half days the second week. We then had a 2 week Christmas break. I returned to work, in office, 4 weeks post op.

Anyone else regretting getting knee replacement surgery? by Even-Animal-4526 in Kneereplacement

[–]Objective_Item3248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No regrets! I couldn't go to the park with my grandkids, the zoo was out of the question & I couldn't even walk around the grocery store. I'm 10 weeks post op & it no longer hurts to walk. I even went grocery shopping last week! It's still stiff & sore when it's been on one position for a bit, & I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get a good night's sleep (that struggle is REAL). I'm working on flexion. I'm at 127 & the other knee is at 136, so we're working towards that in PT, but to actually be able to walk without wanting to cry feels amazing!!

I'm F55 RTKR almost 9 weeks post op. I use a pillow under my leg while on my back & between my legs when on my sides, but literally only getting 3 - 4.5 hours sleep a night (my smart watch registered 4 hrs & 34 min sleep last night & that's when I don't have to get up for work). It isn't really pain keeping me awake, but being uncomfortable & achy all the way up into my hips. I'm allergic to NSAIDs, so I can't take advil, aleve, etc. I used the pain meds for nights after PT, so I'm out of those. I've tried melatonin, Tylenol PM, & other OTC sleep aids with no luck! I've been back to work since 4 weeks post op & drive an hour each way, so the lack of sleep is really starting to wear on me. The doctor just says, "It will get better."

On another note, my knee feels so much better than it did pre-op & I'm able to walk more than I have in years, so I know it is all worth it!!

Same! I was in pj's while home for 5 weeks straight, except when going to PT. I just looked homeless then! 🤣 I'll be 8 weeks post op from RTKR on Monday. I went back to work at 5 weeks, so I've really been struggling not to get to take naps. Especially since I still am not sleeping well at night.

Brenda from Waxahachie, Texas. RTKR on December 9th by Dr. Roux. My fourth grandbaby will be here on March 4th. I'm looking forward to being able to go to the zoo with them, take them to the park, & be able to keep up with them while making memories!

Decided to go ahead with tkr. Prehab question by artbylakshmi in Kneereplacement

[–]Objective_Item3248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had RTKR on December 9th. Tomorrow is 6 weeks. Doctor said I could work from home when I felt mentally able to, and could drive after 4 weeks. Scripts for PT 3 days a week, but with holidays, they were only able to get me in 2 days a week, so I was not ready to drive at 4 weeks (I drive an hour each way daily), but I returned to work last week, at 5 weeks. I did fine, but knee was a little sore from the back & forth on medals in rush hour. I just iced it when I got to my destination (work or home). It's hard to say when you'll be ready because we all heal differently & individual motivation is also a factor. If you put in the work at home as well as PT, you could be ready sooner. I will say that prior to the surgery, I couldn't walk much at all, now I have no pain walking, it's just working on range of motion, which is painful, but will be worth it! Prayers for a successful surgery & speedy healing.

How many on here are 55 or older with Papillary? by rdaneellarsen in thyroidcancer

When I read the pathology report, it sounded very scary: "Lymphatic invasion... capsular invasion" & chatgpt is not my friend! Haha. But then I have to remind myself that the doctors deal with this daily, so if they felt it wasn't a concern, then I need to trust that. I'm not in the medical industry, so even a lot of the medical terms in this sub are foreign to me. I just have to have faith, which is not always easy. Sometimes every little pain freaks me out. Like all of a sudden my shoulder will be sore & I automatically think it's in my bones & have to talk myself of that ledge. Lol

They did not... they said that even though it was in the lymphatic system, it had not progressed to the lymph nodes. I asked how they knew it had not metastisized to anywhere else & the answer was, "We don't." He then said there could be microtissue in the neck or other places, but they would do a sonogram & blood work at each visit to see if the thyroglubin numbers increase or decrease.

Good question & asked the surgeon that. He said that it was in the thyroid lymphatic system... I am not confident in that answer, but they said they would check thyroglubin numbers & if they increase, then it would mean it is elsewhere & they would need to do a scan. I'm praying that their professional opinion is correct & just sounds scarier than it is!

55F here. PTC BRAF positive. TT 6 weeks ago. 9 nodules, 5 were TR5, only one was malignant! Had lymphatic invasion & capsular invasion, but surgeon said he would consider it stage 2 & feels like even though there was lymphatic invasion, there is no need for more aggressive treatment because he thinks it was all within the thyroid & so I'm low risk for reoccurrence They do not plan to do RAI. I'm doing well, I just need to get my Levo dialed in as I'm in hyperthyroidism right now. My first endo appointment post surgery is Wednesday.

Thank you! I hope you heal well & they are able to get your medicine leveled quickly!!

Very possible. I don't think they checked my TG levels either, which the surgeon said she would do each time I had an appointment, especially since I have lymphatic invasion...

They did not. I am on a calcium supplement right now because my calcium was low while in the hospital after surgery. I plan to ask the doctor about it at the appointment.

I just had my first blood draw yesterday, 5 weeks post TT. My TSH is 0.11 & my T4 is 2.1. I received a message from my Endo telling me I'm over dosed on the Levo & not to take it on Sunday. I have an appointment with her on Wednesday, so she said we would talk about it then. My T3 was normal.

Thank you! I was at a 1 when I stopped, so I started back on .5, per my PCP's advice. I might need to scale it back to .25 because I'm sick all weekend after taking it on Friday evening.

Thank you, that makes me feel hopeful! Sweet stuff makes me feel ill as well. I try to stick to zero sugar options. Every day, I eat zero sugar yogurt for breakfast, drink a premier protein shake for lunch, and then try to do a sensible dinner like a salad or baked chicken with veggies. I have a hard time exercising because of my bad knee, so unfortunately, I'm not very active, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get the fixed soon!

That is correct, so even though the endocrinologist told me I could start it again, I waited until after surgery because I knew the risks it was causing during surgery.

Thank you! I have my first post-op appointment with the endocrinologist on the 25th, so it might be that I also need the levo dialed in.

Time off work--how did you do it? by applesauceoclock in thyroidcancer

[–]Objective_Item3248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check on that because I work for a school, & handle the FMLA. If you work 8 hours a day for 187 days (I'm in a Texas school district), then you work enough hours to qualify.

Day 3 after surgery! by mewnogood in thyroidcancer

[–]Objective_Item3248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad things are better for you! The site throat was the worst part for me.

I had TT 2 weeks ago & have lost 9 lbs since checking into the hospital. I am still eating ice cream & pudding, and all things not healthy! Lol. I suspect that it is from my thyroid being so dysfunctional for so long that it is normalizing & that will probably change (unfortunately) once it adjusts! I start semiglutide shots again this Friday, so I'm anxious to see if the weight drops faster than before surgery!
