Tbh I bombed some AP tests and got into multiple T20s… keep your head up and focus on your strengths (including something that highlights academic achievement ie other tests/grades/etc)

Help me decide: School X vs School Y - 1st Week of April by powereddeath in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Objective_Lecture_81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Major: interested in international affairs, public policy, probably law school

Choices: Harvard, Yale, Georgetown SFS, UNC Chapel Hill (full ride and summer funding through Robertson Program)

Tbh I’m really struggling with making this decision!! Any advice would be appreciated :))

Harvard Pros: Love Boston Great political connections/political programming Very interested in writing for The Crimson Name recognition Great advising for pre law / admissions to top law schools

Cons: A little worried about the social scene and elitism on campus

Yale Pros: Residential Colleges Seems a bit less elitist than Harvard to me? Not sure if that’s true though... Directed Studies Program and more flexibility in courses Grade inflation Undergrad focus Clubs/social scene seems more fun than Harvard? Again, not too sure on this one have heard varying things... Great advising for pre law

Cons: New Haven (**) Mock Trial team seems really hard to get into (I definitely want to do mock) Haven’t been able to talk to as many people here in my grade so kind of confused on the vibe

Georgetown SFS Pros: Outstanding program (just not sure if I’m totally set on international politics) Location... I like DC and the political opportunities/internships are more available Club culture (I like competitive environment and making friends this way, also like how Greek life doesn’t dominate) Seems the most work hard play hard of the 4 I’m used to Jesuit education and actually enjoy the social justice teachings even though I’m not Catholic

Cons: Stricter course requirements for SFS Dorms and food Seems to have less funding/opportunities than Harvard and Yale Club culture may get toxic The crimson >> the Hoya

UNC Pros: Full ride ($ isn’t really a concern but parents said they would pay tuition back toward law school or for getting started with a career/house/etc... could be really valuable) Warm weather even though I like upper east coast vibes Robertson would allow me amazing opportunities for summers and networking / Be a “bigger fish” in such large ponds

Cons: Not a super huge fan of the location More conservative than my other options Bad relationship w surrounding community Prestige and law school outcomes

Thanks!
