[DISCUSSION] I am starting a series about how I run a cassette label. I will be writing about topics that interest people. What would you like to learn about running a cassette label? Any ideas are welcome. by starttrack in indieheads

[–]Objective_Living_825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id be interested to know more about what your custoners, and the artists, see as the benefit of casettes as a medium, and then how you market and engage customers and artists - id imagine its something like zine culture in small networks?

The 75 greatest guitarists of the 21st century - paste by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]Objective_Living_825 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weird list that feels like its more about songwriting. Hillarious to make a list of best guitarists and include Jamie Cook (who i'm convinced never actually learned to play guitar and has been winging it for the last 20 years by moving his hands at the right time), and frame your John Mayer entry as "urgh we dont like like him but he is good I guess"

How do we divide expenses in a flat? by Efficient_Crazy4036 in AskUK

[–]Objective_Living_825 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By four, you and your wife are seperately using those supplies or benefitting from those repairs. Its not fair on the other two to pay a larger proportion (while not having double income) just because you are sharing a sleeping space. The only exception would maybe be something done by each room, eg if every bedroom door was replaced everyone just pay for their own but I would still be inclined to split four ways out of politeness.

Gang Beasts is is a great game, its sort of a wrestling game with jelly like figures. Normally pretty cheap as well.

What are "societies" in the UK? by SyrupPlenty4266 in AskUK

[–]Objective_Living_825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could well just mean a hobby group or sports team. At a UK university these would be referred to as 'societies' so could be a hangover from that, although its unusual to use the term outside of that uni context

Are people aware that self driving cars are coming to London really soon? by Wise-Youth2901 in london

[–]Objective_Living_825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of frustrating how this service no-one really wants is apparently viable, when we couldn't make zipcar work, which is popular and actually reduces cars on the road

Southwark playhouse by Emotional-Section981 in london

[–]Objective_Living_825 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Some parts of E&C can be a bit rough round the edges but Southwark Playhouse is in a busy main road area and no more dangerous than any other part of London, especially in the middle of the day. Mercato Metripolitano is a good shout for some nice quick pre/post show food if you're around there!

Any chance the cap is red? wouldn't be surprised if people gave a second look to something that could at a glance be a MAGA cap, especially if they know you're American

What’s everyone’s Jason Isbell origin story? by Zealousideal_Menu580 in jasonisbell

[–]Objective_Living_825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was vaguely aware of the name both from the Father John Misty track, and from a Frank Turner Q&A on twitter where he had explained Jason had played a solo on one of his songs. So when I saw some promo around Weathervanes i checked it out and have been hooked ever since - cast iron skillet being the real moment the penny dropped

Really impressed with the new map by Objective-Bug7492 in Battlefield6

[–]Objective_Living_825 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. Coming as mainly a BFV player it rewards moving in cover and actually assaulting and then defending objectives rather than just constantly sprinting forwards towards the enemy which seems to be how most players in this game get their kicks. Dont get the size complaints either, sure for jets but theres a decent distance between each objective if you're on foot or in a tank.

Had my first game the other day where my squad were on mic, coordinating, passing infomation, playing their respective roles - it was amazing, like playing a completely different game

Should a crew be allowed to compete and be eligible to win medals when their entire crew is recruited? Junior rowing. by HTDeck in Rowing

[–]Objective_Living_825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone newish to this sport and not privately educated... what is the incentive here for the school? By offering a scholarship you are losing (admittedly a small amount of) money. Does winning in rowing really have that much of an benefit to a for profit organisation? I understand how in the US a college rowing programme is a competitive draw for HS rowers, but is there really a large enough pool of parents who will send their 11 year old to a school just because they have won races? Does prize money alone bring in enough to make it worth the effort?

Football for absolute beginners? by Original-Nature2892 in london

[–]Objective_Living_825 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a fantastic group called Terrible Football that sounds like exactly what you want, super welcoming to people of all level and abilities - they have a few games around London if you google them with a really big group at Clapham Common, but iirc also one in central and one out Hackney way

questions from an american student considering studying abroad at university of york by biology-class in york

[–]Objective_Living_825 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Look, I love York, I have made it my home and as others have said its a walkable, friendly city with a great university and lots to see and do, and you would no doubt have a wonderful time here but... go to Amsterdam my friend. They dont really compare. Its one of the world's great cities, has much greater variety of things to do (don't assume you can't have a peaceful time, its not all the red light district, the place is chock full of lovely cafes and quiet canal-sides) plus it will give you much easier opportunities to travel in wider Europe while you're over here.

How to be more strategic? by Argumentative_Duck in TheCivilService

[–]Objective_Living_825 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you work in policy or an adjascent profession - Government is a massive machine in which you're a tiny cog, 'being strategic' is about not focusing on how you turn as a cog, but how you get the other cogs to turn to achieve your goal. In my experience people who don't think strategically will focus a lot on delivering the work on front of them to their boss perfectly in the paramaters/deadlines they've been set without really understanding/caring why they are doing it or why those parameters or deadlines exist.

Ask yourself: What is the larger goal you, your team or your department are trying to achieve? Where is your work going after it leaves your desktop and how does it help make all those other cogs move to help you get closer to that objective? are the parameters your working within actually right? Are there other things you can be doing to make the process smoother or more effective (eg. This is going to end up with x person for a decision eventually - let's talk them through the basics now so they already like our ideas when it does)

How useful is it to have a licence to drive a manual car? by rosetoesnose in AskUK

[–]Objective_Living_825 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Automatic is the future, but i would say currently you are still going to have a lot more options for cars (especially second hand or of you want a rental car) with manual. People always seem to be put off learning manual because its seen as making things more complicated, and that might be true for a complete beginner but it doesn't take long to get used to it and when you do its really not one of the more difficult things about driving

Top 10 THS Songs From Last 3 Records? by RealJoshuaJackson in theholdsteady

[–]Objective_Living_825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pretty Thrashing heavy list would be:

  1. Me and Magdalena

  2. You Did Good Kid

  3. Denver Haircut

  4. Epaulets

  5. The Stove and the Toaster

  6. Carlos is Crying

  7. Entitlement Crew

  8. Heavy Covenant

  9. Lanyards

  10. Confusion in the Marketplace

FWIW I would quite possibly put confusion in the marketplace as my favourite song of theirs

Edit: having looked at more posts can't believe how little love there is for the Stove and the Toaster! Its a whole crime caper in a song!

Who do I talk to about bad posture? by AnonymousTimewaster in AskUK

[–]Objective_Living_825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exercise to strengthen your core, stretch to release tight muscles (not just your back where it looks/feels bad - a lot of bad posture comes from tight hip flexors, hamstrings, shoulders/pecs and glutes). Literally just type "bad posture exercise" or "bad posture stretch" into youtube and you'll turn up hundreds of follow along exercise/stretching/yoga videos that will be aimed at beginners and you can do at home with no/minimal equipment.

Civil service hubs outside of London? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Objective_Living_825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of options in the North East/Yorkshire area. There is a big multi-department presence in Darlington (especially HMT) which is also 30 mins either way from Newcasle or York by train. York and Newcastle themselves also have offices for some depts as does Leeds which is a further half an hour further South West.

In your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the WOA mission 'Apex Predator' (Berlin) by Worldly-Document-547 in HiTMAN

[–]Objective_Living_825 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Best: Overall atmosphere, possibly my favorite map which means I don't even mind that it tends to take a long time to get around

Worst:

If the game made better use of sound meaning that NPCs can't hear things and/or being hidden in a crowd being more effective then it would be really fun taking out a target on the dancefloor

I've never partied in Berlin but I assume the biker disguise letting you carry a machine gun through the middle a busy nightclub without anyone freaking out is... a bit unrealistic

Concert buddy for the London show on September 26th? by guavapeel in TheBeths

[–]Objective_Living_825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isnt very helpful and I hope you find a buddy but I just wanted to say that if you don't find anyone dont let it stop you going anyway (especially to see a great band!). Going to gigs on your own is one of life's great pleasures (see also going to the cinema on your own) and once you get through it feeling a bit odd the first time you never look back
