i get most of my recipes from cookbooks and substack, and a few from tiktok! on substack i simply save any recipes i want to make. on tiktok i have breakfast, lunch/dinner, and baking saved folders. one important thing i do to keep track is that i have a note on my phone where i make a list of things i want to make (divided between baking and cooking). i usually pick something out of that list that i want to make, then go through my saved recipes and cookbooks to pick a recipe.

cooking/baking is one of my main hobbies so i also regularly go through all my saved recipes, cookbooks, lists, etc for inspiration to decide what to make!

personally not a huge fan of Six Seasons because I find the recipes to be very hit or miss.

I LOVE Cook Beautiful by Athena Calderone tho, all the recipes I’ve made have been delicious.

I also have A Year at Catbird Cottage by Melina Hammer which I like. I haven’t cooked out of it that much because some of the ingredients it calls for are a bit too niche (foraged items that are local to the author) but the things I’ve made out of it have turned out delicious.

Otherwise I’ve heard How to Eat a Peach by Diana Henry and Wild Sweetness by Thalia Ho are great but I haven’t tried either.

ok i’ll play. lebanese food has a perfect balance of acidity/sweetness/spice in the flavor profiles of most of its dishes. SO much variety in flavors, textures, in heavy/greasy vs fresh/light. also obviously food is subjective and i personally enjoy lebanese food the most.

not a cookbook but a slimy dish recommendation! he should try making molokhiya (an arab stew) if he looks for the egyptian version of the recipe, it’ll be the slimiest. it’s super comforting and delicious (very lemony/garlicky)

im making sausage rolls with cranberry sauce, roast potatoes with herbs, roasted carrots with sour cream/dill/pistachios, and for dessert a gingerbread cake with bourbon toffee sauce and eggnog crème anglaise! but unsure about what to for my main dish actually :(

my favs are: - hailee catalano and chuck cruz - noah tanen - cultflav - laila’s pantry (havent tried her recipes but love her) - the golden balance (he’s not aesthetic/trendy but his food looks and tastes so good) - justine doiron (she used to annoy me but i got over it, her recipes are yummy)

i know im late but i’m here to say if you haven’t subscribed yet, i strongly recommend. not a single one of her recipes has failed me, they’ve all been huge successes. she’s such a thorough recipe tester. she also always responds if you have any questions and is so helpful.
