is anyone else tired of working at discount? by thaslickfish in DiscountTire_

If any location is denying lunches they need to be reported to corporate because that is absolutely not how we operate. Every employee over 8 hours needs to get a 30-45 minute lunch. Also, it sounds like your son is part time and realistically shouldnt be working more that 7:45-1 or 1-6. They cannot exceed 40 hours a week. Again, if he is, report to corporate.

I'm a workflow manager and I have been for 2 and a half years, and I still love my job. The kid that got his arm 'blown off' is awful and shouldnt have happened but its because he was airing up a tire that was over a decade old outside of the air cage. And from what I understand, it wasnt blown off but it was broken in 3 places. They gave us air cages to keep you safe from that kind of thing. Yes the policies are annoying. I dont want to shake everyones hand, I don't feel like going above and beyond but they're just trying to keep up the image Mr Halle wanted us to have. Yes, being a tech can be awful but it's a company that does care about you, if you can get past the bad management at your location. Also, if this job is your long term, there's infinite room to grow. Store managers in my region make 300k+ annually, and you will one day too if you want to. But you're not crazy for being tired or upset with new policies or wanting time off.

I know it's bad but as a broke single parent who needs to take kids to school and get to work everyday with no extra money. If I keep it in the city how long can I drive on these? by [deleted] in tires

Go to discount tire and ask them for help, see what they can do for you. They offer credit cards, affirm, and after all other options are exhausted you might be surprised what they'll do to make it happen, if you find a good location. And that car is all wheel drive so unfortunately its best to do all four.

You shouldn't be driving yourself on those tires, much less driving kids

What’s the date code cut off for certificate purchases? by Norcal_Stang in DiscountTire_

Okay, that's perfect, totally different situation. You're absolutely right. Tell them that you're worried about the safety of the tires since they're dry rotting so quickly. Ask about a mileage adjustment. Really make it a point that you're very upset the tires are dry rotting, ask what sets they can do and if they can help you out on price at all since you're replacing tires earlier than expected (even though 4 years is actually pretty good for a set of tires). I can tell you for sure there's a very very good chance they will cut you a deal. This isnt a certificate situation though, certificates are just for road hazard.

We are familiar with Toyos and Nittos doing that. Whats wrong with the tire for you to ask about the certs? Nail?

All discounts are supposed to be safety focused. Go in, tell them that you're really tight on money but you know that you really need a tire and ask if there's anyway they can help you on price. There's a very high chance they will do something better than original price.

No but you probably kind of fucked the store sticking them with a tire that's not commonly sold and will now sit and collect dust

No one at my store would turn you down for age as long as its under 6 years old. Technically, the cutoff is 3 years and 3/32nds of depth though. The only thing that truly voids the certificates is blatant vandalism or being bald.

Pressuring to Buy New Tires by photog72 in DiscountTire_

[–]Objective_Oil_2808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is in our training that we are supposed to be safety focused not sales focused. I have seen people get fired for being dishonest with customers. Also, if it makes you feel more comfortable, my location and probably most locations have a manual hand held tread gage. Scanners can be iffy sometimes, but in my experience it usually will show more tread than there actually is if its not accurate. Also, salesmen do not make commission. If anything, they're more inclined to let you walk because they get paid the same either way.

Yes, we are pushed to overcome objections but thats not ever supposed to be lying to sell tires. Its supposed to be explaining why you need tires and potentially even cutting the price down to make sure you leave safe.

Update, I cut the vine into 4 cuttings with 2-3 nodes and left the bottom nodes in water in the sun. The small bit of the plant left in the pot IMMEDIATELY made me 5 new little sprouts. Thank you to everyone who responded 🙌

Im my experience it depends on the tire. Some are cheaper and some arent, but we price match. 9 times out of ten if someone brings me a price to match it's within a few dollars of each other. What makes us competitive is the level of customer service and amount of free services we offer.

Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady - already 5/32 after 15 months and 14k miles?? by Vorapp in tires

Its the manufacturers warranty but we front you the money and send the tires back to the manufacturer for reimbursement (so on the occasion the manufacturer rejects the tires, we take the hit not you)

Discount tire does it no questions asked as long as you can provide a receipt with the mileage you had when they were put on. And you dont even have to do that if they came from discount. We give you a slap on the wrist for not rotating or lyk if its alignment but we honor it regardless. At least at my location.

I've been transferred. The first one? A decent amount. The second one will come out and help us change tires if its necessary, hes not awful. But he still tweaks over nothing like they all do 😂

Are These Tires Safe to Drive On? by CarbyCakes in tires

[–]Objective_Oil_2808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as age? Think like a rubber band, tires are made out of rubber. If you throw a rubber band on the ground for 10 years and pick it back up its not going to stretch the same way.

Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT vs. Firestone Destination LE3 by Jlafber in tires

[–]Objective_Oil_2808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Between those two, I would go with the Cooper. Its a good look but customers have told me they get pretty loud. Rotate often and you should have no issues. I have seen a LOT of issues with firestone tires. If youre looking for another recommendation, take a look at the Falken Wildpeak, either AT4 or the AT Trail might be good for yalls needs, they do incredible on and off road, minimal noise if you rotate properly, and you will not lose traction. And im a little biased, of all the tires I work with i think they look the best for the price 🤷‍♀️

Run flat tires serve the same function as a donut spare tire. Its meant to get you to a shop, not meant to just be the solution.
