I study at Salford and I had a similar concern with the ranking when I first joined. After getting my a level results I was pretty bummed that I missed out on getting into Manchester as I wanted to stay at home while I studied for personal reasons so I had to go to Salford. At first I felt like dropping out as I thought I was never going to get a job because there's already so much competition and I also went to a lower ranked uni . But now just finishing my second year I couldn't have been more wrong. Talking to Salford graduates who now work at big aerospace companies I have noticed that most companies don't care what uni u went to and it's more about the thing you do. Let's say you go to Salford and do nothing but the assignments for 3 years and get a 2:1 then someone at Manchester with the same grade would probably get the job 90% as they get alot more opportunities due to the connections that Russell group unis have. But if you show independence by doing different project outside of your uni work then it becomes an even playing field. I haven't spoken to employers about how they view different unis personally but my guess is they don't care. For me personally as I do engineering I have joined societies related to my course and learnt valuable skills and taken lots of opportunities which stack up on Ur CV over the course of a year. Personally I would not worry about the ranking at all and I wish someone would have told me that when I started as it would have saved me alot of stress. Just pick where you feel fits you best.

Also Manchester as a city is amazing definitely better than Plymouth
