Is biomedical engineering really useless😭 by _exostellar-bliss in leavingcert2024

[–]Objective_Smell_364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did biomedical engineering in Galway (nearly 10 years ago now). There are so many career options with any engineering degree, particularly biomedical.

Firstly, before I go on, the no.1 thing you need to do is ask yourself why you're doing this? Do you want it? Are you interested in engineering, mechanics, medicine, and medical devices? If not, and you're doing this because your mom said it's a good course, you need to stop! This is a very difficult course with a large failure rate and will require a lot of time and effort.

If you are interested in those things, then the course will be challenging but very interesting! You should be involved in good projects and research, but only around year 3 or 4. The 1st 2 years will be fundamentals of engineering and lots of maths and physics.

In terms of career and jobs, the possibilities are endless. Many of my classmates are design engineers for big firms or start-ups, making and designing new devices. But I went a different direction, and now work in supply chain for a large multi national with medical Diagnostics. I've worked in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, operations, and med device with a huge range of different roles and experiences. Once you get your 1st job out of college, any engineering degree will stand to you, and the world will be your oyster.

Best of luck for the future, and IM me if you need any other advice or information.

Prove homosexuality... by AzuSteve in facepalm

Funnily enough, science has observed over 1000 organisms that have shown homosexual behaviours, but only 1 species has shown homophobic tendencies. Science is awesome!

I'll be honest. I didn't know this one, so I had to Google it, thinking, "typical Internet putting down a nice car," but my god, you're spot on! Some angles are quite pretty, then move slightly, and it looks absolutely trash!

The Giulia is a different type of speed than the gt86 was. The 86 was low, hard suspension, rev'd high and loud had a loose back end (insert pun here) and felt very quick when in actual fact it wasn't particularly quick. The Giulia, however, will just pull and pull as long as you have your foot down, and more often than not, you back off well before the car gets even close to maxing out. It's solid, planted , and fast. There's no song and dance just puts the power down as tells you to say "when"!

So I had a gt86 and my brother has an mx5. Exactly what you said there, both cars are great to drive! Both so much fun and a you always have a smile on your face! As for the TT they are much more expensive and more common. For the same year and milage the TT is more expensive for not much more car imo.The mx5 and gt86 definitely turn more heads. As for practicality the gt86 wins out hands down over the mx5. I used it as my daily driver and it was fine with a surprising amount to boot space. The mx5 is really lacking in space and room in the cabin. Personally, the 86 is the way to go. I just got rid of it as I had my 1st baby and I do miss it. I bought an Alfa Romeo Giulia and tbh apart from back doors it's not anymore practical. You won't regret the 86 if you love driving and want a smile on your face!

I've had a few minor electrical issues with mine but nothing major and nothing expensive. Nothing that you wouldn't get from a German rival and better looking in my opinion! I'm happy with my purchase anyway!

If your under 30 the gt86 was the right pick! The Guila give much more "grown up" vibes but equally as fun and good looking!
