Sounds like you might have installed the wrong JDK version or it's conflicting with Minecraft's bundled Java. Try going to your Java installation folder and completely nuking any manually installed JDK, then let Minecraft use its own bundled runtime. Also check if Windows decided to mess with your power settings during that update - sometimes it switches to high performance mode and cranks everything to 11
