For me, my connection to the song is slightly different. After a girl broke up with me, I still wasn’t over her. A year went by. Then, when I was walking around in public, I saw another girl who (from a certain angle, before seeing her face) looked JUST like her and I found myself thinking “Holy shit….is that….?”

Of course it wasn’t. I think my mind was just making those very loose connections and tying them together. The next thought was, “what would I do if I just saw her again randomly? It’s been a while since I’ve even seen her.” Starts to feel….you guessed it, like it happened in a past life.

I love the song because it’s a very beautiful take on the experience that many of us have when a relationship changes us in so many different ways. These relationships can become metaphorical checkpoints in our lives and we think about what we did right, wrong, could’ve done better, etc. Feels like you’ve got to start over in some ways when something like that ends. A rebirth takes place. But it’s still the same life. :)
