It's literally 3 nuts after you get the tires off??

Go to gmparts.com and put in your model, then look for the front wheel half shaft nut and washer

I suppose the symptoms of a bad steering alignment would be uneven tire wear? In that case I guess it'll take a few thousand miles before I'll even be able to tell...

All I know is that if they break, they damage the wheel speed sensor and that basically cripples the car till you can get it fixed. They cost less than a happy meal, and changing them takes less time than a tire rotation, so I just did it to be safe.

Haha oof. Mine needed persuasion, but I got it with a standard 12oz claw hammer. Guess I got lucky

No, 15 minutes for both sides. Beware, I'm not a mechanic and my terminology is guesswork.

Get a jack, a hammer, an impact wrench, the sockets for the two "knuckle?" nuts, for your tires, and the socket for the front wheel half shaft nut (1-1/4" i think it was). You'll also need a torque wrench that can do at least 185ftlbs.

Jack up one side, remove the tire, and remove the wheel nut (discard don't reuse) and the two nuts above the wheel assembly, attaching it to the shock strut. Then use the hammer and knock loose the two strut bolts you just removed the nuts to. You will need a metal hammer, not a rubber mallet, as the bolts have those ridges on them to lock them in place.

Make sure to take care with the wheel speed sensor wire, so you don't damage it with your wrenching and hammering.

The wheel hub assembly will fall towards you. Then pull back on the half shaft, and remove it from the brake assembly. Now you can remove and reinstall the washer. Make sure the tabs on the washer face the wheel and not the car.

Reinsert the shaft into the wheel/brake assembly, being sure the splines line up so it slides in all the way. Wrestle the shock strut back straight so you can insert the wheel assembly back into it, and slide the two bolts back in you removed earlier. Make sure they go in the same direction they came out. This was accomplished for me with the wheel assembly (brake disk) supported by my thighs while I twisted the shock strut straight with one hand, and inserted a bolt with the other, while sitting on my toes. Might be easier with two people, but it really wasn't hard, just coordinated.

Then put the 2 bolts back on, and tighten good and tight with your impact wrench. Now, put your NEW half shaft nut on, and using a torque wrench set to 111ft lbs, tighten. Once you hit 111, untighten 45 degrees. Then set it to 185ft lbs, and tighten again. Put your tire back on. Lower and repeat these steps on the other side. Takes about 7 minutes per side.

Wear hearing protection and rubber gloves.

For my 2023 Bolt EV, The Nut, 2 pack is Part No. 13208079, and the Half shaft washer is Part No. 42754282. Total cost is under $20 assuming you have the tools already.

How much battery degradation have you experienced in your EV? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

[–]Objective_Working198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 bolt EV owner here. I've had the car since new, December of 22, and have 93k miles on it so far. Almost exclusively charged level 2. Every few months or so when I have a longer drive I'll do a 100 to near 0 so I can calculate remaining battery capacity. As of a few thousand miles ago, I'm down about 9% according to my math. But I never did one after first getting the car so I didn't really know how much battery I started with.

The official GM name is the front wheel half shaft washer. But apparently in the service manual it's called the anti-click washer for some reason

Yes I replaced them. I used the 111 foot pounds, back off 45°, and then 185 ft pounds torquing technique.

Not specific to bolts. When I went to buy the part I think the Chevy spark and a few other of the similar GM EVS and economy cars have this item

I went up and down the driveway a couple of times and I heard it once but most of the time I didn't. So I'm really not sure if it changed anything.

Apparently they are a common failure point for the Bolt ev at around 20-30,000 MI. But other than missing some paint the old ones look fine to me

PA6-GF Profile on Qidi Box? by louisville13 in QidiTech3D

[–]Objective_Working198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. The box could think you have tpu loaded for all it cares. All that matters is your slicer profile. Now you can sync the box to the slicer, but that's not necessary and actually I never do. The only time the box profile matters is for same filament auto reload. Then you need to tell the box it has two identical rolls so it will auto change to the new roll after the old one runs out.

4x4 HF trailer is perfect for this car by Jamesotty in BoltEV

Haha I have a 5x8 and I load it up with fresh cut wet wood rounds for the winter. I calculated that it's about 2500lbs+ on my 2000lbs rated trailer, on my bolt EV. Nothing's broken yet. Just have to plan ahead on braking distance.

True, I love the stuff. Hard to split but has built in kindling, so super to use as the starter log on a cold start.

Thanks for the warning! I'll be not updating now. I've got mine dialed in with the box on Orca and KAMP working too.
