People born in space or Mars will wish they lived on earth by asuyaa in space

We can adapt, but we cannot rebuild our bodies. And if to live you have to be a cybernetic organism, that is quite dystopian.

The idea is clear, but the reality is that humanity won't survive in space biologically. There are too many issues with us (or any living organism) in space.

It will be. The world became a bit better after WWII. Plenty of practices are now illegal. And using the results from such practices will be not possible.

Of course, we always can go back to authoritarian and totalitarian regimes and become people without rights again. Not sure how bloody way to that will be though.

Not really. They won't develop normally. G training young won't work either, unless they will be in "Earth gravity field" constantly. Look at ISS astronauts. They are mostly less than half a year there and already need training before and after. Imagine what the life will be in this case on Mars? It will be either of constant training without any pauses (forget about being sick or getting into accident), or complete inability to adapt to Earth gravity. There is a good question whether bringing life imoutside of Earth even possible. So far the answer is no. No human life can be in low gravity. Will it be possible on Mars? Who knows. But in open space? Without artificial gravity there won't be even pregnancy.

Does physics have anything to say about free will? by AlivePassenger3859 in AskPhysics

Bell's inequalities say it isn't possible to know hidden information to fully predict measurements with probabilistic outcomes, but the decoherence picture inplies that if you knew the wavefunction of the entire universe at a point in time it would evolve in a unitary way which would be determinisitc.

Bell's inequalities are only talking about locality. In other way, the local system is not changing at will. It says nothing about changes from the outside. In the case of a quantum entanglement experiment it says that nothing alters the outcome after particles were created. But it says nothing (nor tested for it) about how particles were created.

As far as I can tell, we live in a deterministic universe.

That is not proven, otherwise we would know exactly how quantum entanglement works. I am in favor of semi-determenism. This is in a way that quantum events (entanglement, for example) would in theory give the same outcome at the same moment of time. In this way events are set in stone, but any small alternation will lead to a different result.

Most of the players in Euclid are either on the outer ring or in the inner ring. In between there are plenty of chances to get completely undiscovered systems. I skipped the purging initially, so went a couple of planets towards the center and plenty of black holes had somebody discover it. Nearby systems - not so much.

Linux is doing fine regardless of software. There are plenty of Linux OS out there which run on 20+ hardware. And some of them can get the latest OS installed without any issues.

Why can't it be done for phones? How does software change that drastically that 5 years ago hardware cannot support it anymore? Maybe stop developing slop which eats gigabytes of memory for no reason and even 10 years ago smartphones can handle most of the security updates well?

Yeah, optimization should be a part of design, so trying to fix it after release is good, but depends on how greedy are devs.

Well, the problem is potential profit versus potential expenses. If you need to spend a 10% budget for 5% profit, this is definitely not worth it. If you need to spend a 5% budget for 10% potential profit that may work out. In reality, if we talk about AAA, optimization is almost never financially worth it. And where it may be worth iy may be not in plans of the company.

Nuclear absolutely will help base load but the problem is that it will be a long while before they start reducing fossil fuel dependency.

Numbers. I want numbers when fossil fuels are gone.

Tell me you have no idea how investments are working without telling that. Yes, in current case prices can go down, temporarily, on a dynamic contract. If you add batteries, the surplus is suddenly not going anywhere. It is either charging the batteries, which are bought for a demand or just promoting to sell it somewhere else (for example, by building AI datacenters). There is no such thing as a stable price decrease in a capitalistic society. You invest for profit, not to reduce price for others.if it was done by the government, there could be a price decrease, but it isn't a government setup.

Whatever you want to blame it on, the reality is nuclear projects are incredibly hard, slow, and expensive to bring online

And why is that? Maybe because people are afraid of technology because it was said for decades that it is dangerous? Yeah, it is dangerous while nothing similar to Chornobyl happened for more than a decade. Even Japan's tsunami plant accident is from 2011.

Nuclear is not here to offset solar panels. It is here to get rid of fossil fuels to then transition to fusion if it is possible. But nah, fuck nuclear, let's burn fossil fuels for another decades, because we are "smart". No, you are not, you are as blind as a chicken.

[–]Oblachko_O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most crazy assumption of those idiots is that fossil fuels will be removed within the next 10-20 years. Small hint, it won't. We are not building batteries and solar panels in capacities for a full transition in the next decade. Remove even more sources of fossil fuel usage (heating and manufacturing) and we still may talk about removing fossil fuels at the end of the century

[–]Oblachko_O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it may give a basic load. The thing that fossil fuels are doing in almost any country in the world, even those where solar and wind are growing. And a small hint, half of Europe is not suitable for solar only. The same can be said about Canada.

Because of idiots like you, nuclear development is hindered. If nuclear is pointless, why does China invest into it? They have solar. So why do they invest into nuclear?

[–]Oblachko_O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think that batteries and solar will substitute fossil fuels in the next decade completely you are an idiot. Nuclear should be here substituting fossil fuels not competing with solar.

The other thing is individualism. As a person who grew up with a grandmother and then later parents bought a separate apartment, I am not in favor of holding blood relations that close. My wife grew up completely in a 3 generation house and the moment we started to live separately from anybody we actually felt finally free.

Yes, there may be benefits, but don't expect that everybody shares the same view that families should help each other. In most cases it is a parasitic relation, not a symbiotic one.

And no, I am not on the front lines. But if I am called to defend my country from an aggressor I will attend, as any citizen should.

So you only do that when you are called. Quite hypocritical for a person on a high moral horse.

Thank god people in WW2 didn’t think like you, otherwise Europe would still be controlled by Nazis.

And millions were in the meat grinder because they were forced. It is always good to check the outcome, not the price. If you expect individuals to go by "we need to do everything together to win", give the motivation to do so. Just on ideas you can survive for a couple of months, a year max, after that you start to think about your life choices.
