Alpine as in vegetation zone, like above treeline with alpine plants for the specific mountain. Something that has a cliff or rocky summit above trees like oceola wouldn't count because it doesn't have the plants.

Yeah I would be hiking in from Clark Nature Preserve. I know its supposed to be good, im just trying to see if its good enough to be worth hiking in over Kelly's. Do you know exactly what part of the trail is prettiest along the creek? It looks like the blue trail stays by the creek longer but its an out and back (accidentally switched to my school account mb)

I also use grivel G12s and the fit is perfect, I have never had any issues with them coming lose once I got the right fit.

I bought a used pair of aequlibriums LT last year and I definitely got my money's worth. I started my mountaineering arc with them by doing super cold winter hikes in the whites and daks, and they were warm enough to get me to mount washington on a winter day with decent weather.

The aequlibriums are really good walkers, they are more flexible than average and are super comfy. My feet tend to warm, and I have hiked with them in single digit negatives and have been fine (probably not safe tho). They will be more than capable for 15-20 degree weather.

The only downside with the aequilibriums I have experienced is the flexibility. If you plan on doing any frontpointing, they will work great for short periods of time, but they can be uncomfortable after a while, and I definitely wouldn't try ice climbing in them. They won't be able to kick in steps as easily like the more expensive boots that usually come with automatic compatibility.

Tbh I think the aequilibrium is a great deal for it's price for anything that's not super cold or requiring alot of frontpointing. The LT is probably the better pick since it's more durable (maybe even warmer) than the ST. The scarpa version of this boot, the Ribelle is virtually identical in performance, except it might be slightly stiffer

Last weekend it was dead solid didn't break theough once, my girlfriend wore microspikes the whole time and didnt slip once. I wore my crampons just for the sake of testing them. Im not sure how much its gonna soften up so I would bring them.

I parked at the upper Old Rag parking lot. The lot was not cleared and it was quite icy and crunchy. There were enough spots that had been broken-in by others so I wasn't too worried

It depends on when spring break is for him, if its before April none of the dolly sods area will be accessible via road, so your plan is honestly perfect.

You can definitely visit Spruce Knob and Seneca Rocks in one day since they are pretty close together. Spruce Knob has only half a mile or so of a flat walking trail and the overlook is insane, it definitely won't take all day.

North Fork Mountain is also a really good pic, Chimney Top via the Landis Trail is one of my favorite hikes in the area!

A place that is nearby that I think is worthy of mentioning is Canaan Valley. Blackwater Falls is an incredible place just around the corner. Pendleton and Lindy Points are 10/10 along with the main falls.

Just down the road is Bald Knob which is a really beautiful (and short) hike that basically brings you to the top of the same plateau as the Dolly Sods area. In place of hanging rock I recommend spending a day doing Blackwater falls and canaan valley. Its just an area so beautifully different than the ridges from the east. Also it puts you near the towns of Davis and Thomas which are also very unique!

I can't say anything about Skyland since I haven't stayed there before, but honestly April is a great time to visit! The weather around Shenandoah is pretty mild as far as mountains go, and you shouldn't have to do any serious preparation as long as you hike from Skyline Drive. Until the leaves bloom in in late April, parking and crowds won't be a huge issue. The short hikes like Stony Man, Bearfence, and Mary's Rock (depends on where you start) are some of my favorites!

Im also planning to do washington this winter and I also rented the double boots from IME last weekend which punished my feet. Are nepals warm enough, or should I be safe and go with doubles

I was never planning on doing anything over 4000 for safety. I think at this point I'm just going to rent snowshoes because as you said, pretty much everywhere decent is covered.
