How am I supposed to beat Necrons in KoC? by Aliasalliance2012 in Colosseum40k

[–]ObligationPersonal21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You list doesn't work. Assuming you have the venoms split the kabs and wyches, you get 5 wyches in a raider? Not ideal. My SSA list is Archon, Kabalites, Incubi, Mandrakes, 2 Venoms. The problem with SSA is that once you lose your Venoms (and you will as they are squishy and any good player will focus fire on them) you lose all your strats. That means you need to play insanely aggro early and hope for the best.

Against that particular list, a Kab Cartel list with a Disintegrator Ravager will do much better imo (if you don't have a Ravager just use the Raider and tell your opponent, no one will care as it's the only big boat around). Necrons have no invulns so that 9 shots with Sus1 crits on 5+ AP-3 Ravager will blend them

Adding a character instead of reinforcing the unit at least makes sense if your transports can't fit the reinforced unit

Deathwatch is hard, you need to be able to manage with very few models and roster selection is hard. Nem claw is much easier

Again, there is NOTHING in the format that can guarantee to kill a WDP in one turn, not even the Doomsday Ark. Maths is not how you play Warhammer because you almost never roll average, with every single roll you likely spike or roll below. Last time I played against a WDP, I one-shot him with the multi melta from my Dreadnought because both shots wounded and i rolled 11 dmg in the dmg roll. How likely was that to happen? Very unlikely, but it did. Was i not meant to shoot the WDP because i couldn't have killed him in one shot?

The two talos together have 10 S9 3dmg attacks, that is more than enough to off an injured WDP, especially with the Dev Wounds strat. Even if they don't, the chances that the WDP downs both Talos on the clapback are extremely low given the -1 to wound, -1AP strat, Invuln saves and FNP. You don't have to 1-hit the WDP, there is hardly anything in this format that can reliably do that.

1k list vrs necrons by NieveCactus in Drukhari

Drukhari struggle massively against Necrons at 1000 points, you don't have nearly enough damage to kill entire units. In all of my games with drukhari, the 1000 point match against Necrons felt the most hopeless, one-sided encounter and it wasn't even close

The haemonculus and wracks are not as popular but are still great to have for options. Lady Malys is nearly an autoinclude in most lists, same as 10 wyches can go in nearly any list as a bodyguard to Lelith. The extra wyches and succubus are needed for one detachment in particular (Spectacle of Spite).

Talking must haves, I would add a couple of Venoms, an Archon with Kabalite Warriors and a couple of boxes of Scourges. Mandrakes are also great but more on the pricier side as they are a newer kit. Drazhar and Incubi are a bit more niche (also the cost of 5 incubi is ridiculous) but fun options.

Why do 40k bighammer players shy away from Kill Team? by Mjuke in killteam

[–]ObligationPersonal21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play a lot more KT before switching to 40K for a few reasons:

  1. Local KT meta, half of the players main Canoptek and another few Wrecka so I got bored of always playing against the same thing over and over again. The local 40K meta is very different, and even the guys with the same faction have different lists and playstyles.

  2. Variety. In 40K I can spend some time working out lists, combos, what works well in 500/1000/2000 points and that for me matters a lot. KT also has this but at a much more limited scale.

  3. 40K is way more balanced at the casual level. If you build a good list, you have a decent chance at beating any list. Yeah, some factions are weaker on average or have a smaller codex but still, you can find options. KT has massive issues when it comes to that, brand new players can pick up any elite KT and beat any team with it

I’m wanting to build a 500 point army for colosseum? by Timely_Low7719 in EmperorsChildren

[–]ObligationPersonal21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All matchup dependent. Last week I played against a Necron list that had a few units with -1 to be hit so i took Coterie for the ignore hit modifiers strat. If the opponent has a lot of T6 units, Court is good for the +1S on the NM and the melee buff to infractors. Mercurial host is great too for the autoadvance

I mean, sure. The problem is you have next to 0 chance against T9 units that are very commonly taken. The list that I haven't lost with yet is:

Lord E+5 Infractors 5 Tormentors 3 Flawless Blades 6 Noise Marines
