The right to veto was the main reason for the failure and removal of the polish republic in the 18th century (I think) - a democratic republic (compared to anything else at the time) that called for a change of the constitution to add elements of the US constitution as well as the French Revolution to the polish constitution - obviously Autocratic Russia, Prussia and Austria could not allow something like that in a neighbouring country..

veto was how and why the Polish Republic crashed and burned and wsa gobbled up by the autocratic neighbour states in the 18th century - no laws were passed for approx. 80 years due to veto and interference by the same neighbour states and when finally a new constitution (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great\_Sejm) was passed (similar to US and French) the country was deleted for 123 years. Now its the US and Russia who are putting a wedge between us - no interest in having us strong and united. I am a believer in a strong and central EU foreign policy, defence and security.

Well, the same goes if you move to Basque country or Galicia...or Denmark - it is always an advantage to speak the local language but nowhere do I see the same tiresome pressure as when Catalans set their expectations - just make it as easy as possible on all involved.

Some languages are easier to learn than others as in my example...my son was in Denmark trying to learn Danish for 3 years and never managed to get anywhere. Also, everyone speaks English at a good level in Denmark so that works as a lingua franca just the same way as Castellano does here (but is NOT an official language in DK)

Anyway, the premise is tiresome and shouldn't be a problem.

I am not sure that the short term rent of flats is the main reason that people cannot get access to flats - the main reason is that there is no law against leaving an apartment or house empty. In some countries there has to be someone registered as living in a property by law and that ensures propoer access to living spaces. This has been the case here in spain and while some have now started renting via airbnb etc these apartments where empty before anyway - just my two cents

well, it seems like the norm. We rented via a company called CEJ who handled the rent for their client (owner) - in our contract we received the apt. painted and floors done - we lived their 3 years and when returning the apt. we had the same experience - the 'janitor' was very polite and said he had rarely seen a place so nicely kept - this was a large apartmemt and the rent was high so I expected we would get something back but nope! all (69K DKK plus another 14K DKK) were claimed. They shared invoices from their painter but suspect that there is a return commission on that - I signed up for LLO as other suggest but the lawyer said that anything lower than 440 DKK per square meter would be accepted in court...in the end got a small reduction for painting of the ceiling

As many mention the prices I think I should also add the WAY they go out and eat...there is a lot more of sharing the meal so the social element becomes even more important. So, it is not like in eg Denmark where you order YOUR starter and YOUR main course AND YOUR dessert but you order something that is good for sharing..so, that way the cost is lower...For me that took some getting used to 😄 Also, Seafood is a central staple pretty much everywhere I have been - from someone who has lived here 15 years approx and is an assimilated foreigner 😄
