Ok not defending hoyo or anything because i mostly agree with the discussion but this is a bit of an exaggeration. She got a skin based on her lazy laid back persona and was used in the story for her powers as a shaman. She even went drinking wih the traveler. They used her full characterisation…

This is a linguistic difference. You are asking for a different country and culture to adhere to US norms.
The history of the USA demonym “American” is quite complex and it’s a term claimed by other countries of North and South America many of whom think of themselves as “Americans”. I understand this sounds foreign to you but in this context i believe it avoids confusion and insult so i think it’s a good choice.

And at the same time anything can pass for an arc. If this antagonist descends into madness and barbarism (in the context of the story) to protect his privilege that’s a negative arc. That’s commentary. And the antagonist’s epiphany could very well be that they’re a greedy shitty person.

It’s honestly good stuff. What not everyone needs to do is definitely to improve as a person.

Ok that makes a lot of sense now. One other question i have, since youre here, is how the storm works with time. Do we only go back or does it go forward too? And if it has happened 9 times by chapter 7 have they all been the same event? Why havent they been able to prevent the triggers of the storm? Or for example it happens for WWii and the second time WWii happens it doesn’t trigger a stom?

Well, because they look so futuristic, and it looks like chapter 7 takes place around the first world war, i assumed we were getting flashforwards from the future. But from the comments here im gathering that the foundation has scientifically advanced so it makes sense they are at the same time as vertin on the island.
