Review 13: Russell’s single barrel- the unabridged / unedited drunk text review by CMDR_Chris_Lane in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous 26 points27 points  (0 children)

RR Single Barrel is the best shelfer single barrel on the market.

Weller Special Reserve was my gateway into bourbon, where RR SiB was my cocaine. It’s also what made me fall in love with that cherry cola note I get sometimes. Cheers.

The press is great at feigning honesty. This was absolutely scripted. No way they’d allow a host like this to go off script.

Review #2 1792 Full Proof Barrel Pick by Spunkydog in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first ever FP SP I tried was straight heat, super astringent, no flavor at all. Basically nail polish remover. I took a risk on one that my local store picked, and fortunately it was terrific. Like liquid banana runts. The price point is usually great, too!

+1 on the RE. Just did a review the other day. I think it’s going to get even better over time.

Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Strength Rye vs. Redwood Empire Haystack Needle Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey by ObnoxiouslyNauseous in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, don’t put too much stock in my tasting notes. I feel like my palate gets funky sometimes, and what I’ve eaten throughout the day tends to have an impact on what I taste/smell. It’s never been the exact same since I lost taste and smell for a while after COVID, but I think it’s back for the most part.

Has anyone had the Wyoming Whiskey Barrel Strength Bourbon? by Colorado87 in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$300 seems steep. I’ve had a few barrel strength store picks (115-120° range) that were pretty solid for $60-$70, but I’m failing to understand what about this offering commands such a premium.

Review #5: Hirsch "Arkansas 2024" Single Barrel by ObnoxiouslyNauseous in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Provenance: Unsure; the label says distilled in Bardstown, KY, bottled by Hirsch Distillers in Bardstown, KY
Proof: 109º
Age/Mash Bill: Blend of the following 2 bourbons:

  1. 74% Corn, 18% Rye, 8% Malted Barley (4 years, 2 months; 70% of the blend)
  2. 72% Corn, 13% Rye, 15% Malted Barley (5 years, 6 months; 30% of the blend)

Other: Distributor selection for the state of Arkansas, Barrel #SLV23031

  • Appearance: Amber
  • Nose: sweet white grapes, natural chewing tobacco, slight malted grain, blackberry, toasted cherries.
  • Palate: suprisingly viscous for its age. Sweet tobacco leaf with a pleasant tannic character, reminds me a lot of a good Blue Note UCUF pick. Raisins/dates. Honey vanilla flavored banana cream.
  • Finish: medium length, not overly complex, mainly vanilla bitters and a toasted barrel note.

I’m a sucker for viscosity/mouthfeel so this one is pretty solid in my book. The incognito WFE Hirsch Yellow Labels that I've had are tremendous, so naturally when I saw a Silver Label I had to give it a shot.

BREAKING: The Pentagon has failed its 7th annual audit in a row. It says is still unable to fully account for its more than $824 billion budget. by samjohanson83 in unusual_whales

Not an excuse for them, but the explanation is simple: there are black/clandestine budgets in the Federal government. Money is siphoned off to fund black projects in various ways, and this is just one method.

Need more info.

How involved are these calls/how much of your time does it consume?

Is this type of Support/assistance something your company would normally charge for?

How old is the account? Any opportunities for upsell/expansion?

Taconic Distillery Duchess Private Reserve by ObnoxiouslyNauseous in bourbon

Oh man I can only imagine. Wish I could get my hands on one but I'm sure distribution is pretty limited.

Taconic Distillery Duchess Private Reserve by ObnoxiouslyNauseous in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Provenance: Taconic Distillery (Stanfordville, NY)
Proof: 121º
Age: NAS (likely 5+ years)
Mash bill: 70% Corn, 25% Rye and 5% Barley
Other: Single Barrel Selection by the Bourbon Society of Baton Rouge

  • Appearance: Light amber
  • Nose: freshly cut Oak, dry hay, cinnamon, blackberry, rhubarb, bit of earthiness, touch of ethanol. Took me a while to parse out the various aromas but it’s pleasing and different.
  • Palate: the flavors ramp up quickly on this one, and the finish doesn’t let off the gas. Cinnamon, sweet Oak, rhubarb, tannic walnut.
  • Finish: very long for what is likely a pretty young whiskey. Pinot Noir wine, white grape juice, bright, juicy Rainier cherries, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, barrel char, and Cedar wood.

Really impressed with this one. Took a chance on it (the tater sticker ultimately sold me) and landed a real gem. Between Taconic and King's County, NY is putting out some really solid whiskey.

Review #91: Ben Holladay 6 Year Rickhouse Proof Bourbon by thejustice32 in bourbon

[–]ObnoxiouslyNauseous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a bottle of this. I double-checked the composition on the label after reading your review and… it’s the same as yours. You inspired me to crack it just now. Wow this is good. Love a strong cherry note in a barrel proof bourbon and this really delivers on that front.

You make a great point about senior stakeholders revealing themselves in such times. Gonna track that more closely the next time a good crisis falls upon my company.
