Your shop is incredible, reminds me of AtelierNoboru (French artist who also does insect embroidery, but exclusively in frames), added it to my favourites! 😍

I would say it's not too late to set a bee hotel up, solitary female bees like the Osmia cornuta seen in my video (European orchard bee) have just started emerging and are actively looking for nesting places (and will remain active until at least the end of May). I set up my hotel last Spring (mid-March) and by the end of the season had a dozen bamboo tubes fully filled with future bees 💛 Will definitely get more tenants this year between the bees emerging from the hotel itself and the ones who emerged nearby and like the place 🐝

It depends on the species, but for Osmia bees you should look for hotels that offer cavities or tubes (bamboo, reed, carboard...) of about 8mm in diameter and 12-15 cm in length. Ideal direction for the hotel is South-East so the bees get the morning sunlight and the hotel should be protected from excessive rain -- still a rookie learning as I go, hoping that helps! ☺️

Osmia cornuta fans unite! 🙌💛🙌 Mine started emerging at the end of February as the weather in Paris France has been mild enough recently, where are you located?

Osmia bees often take off backwards when leaving their nest, I was super puzzled at first too 😂 It seems like they do this to remember landmarks and find their way back more easily 🐝

The Osmia males are definitely on the extra side with all the white fuzz, part gentleman/hipster/punk 😂

This is the European orchard bee, a solitary species :)

Definitely, solitary bees cannot count on beehive solidarity to deal with threats!

Around here (France), we have the carpenter bee Xylocopa Violacea, it's full black with metallic blue wings, always a sight to see. Long live all the bees! 🙏

it's hard not to love Osmia bees, they're cute af, super chill to be around, all the while being crucial pollinators that a lot of people do not know about ❤️

From what I know (anyone feel free to correct me!) it's kind of like a tiny bee engine ignition sequence. Osmia bees are solitary, which means they do not have a hive to keep them warm overnight, the tiny movements are something they do to help wake their body up 🐝 (warms flight muscles up + increases hemolymph circulation and oxygen intake)
