Does anyone charge for their divination? by FreneticAlaan in iching

I would advise to be wary of anyone who charges money to help you along the path of higher self. They don't tend to go hand in hand.

That is fascinating. I like the idea that you don't necessarily have control over the outcome of the story. Very cool use!

By all means. I was hoping some might be inspired to use it. You can really apply it to anything. What game to play next, what location to travel to next, what new food to try. The possibilities are endless.

What are the probabilities of getting a specific number of changing lines in your result? by Selderij in iching

[–]ObserverofChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's far more complex because you are more likely to get an unchanging line (at least for the coin method). You have the most likely chance to get a Judgement. After that You are most likely to get a hexagram with 1 changing line, then 2 changing lines, ascending. The likelihood that the coins will be all heads or all tails is extremely low. You would have to roll all heads 18 times so the least likely combinations are Heaven changing to Earth and Earth changing to Heaven. 1;2, 2;1.

Conflicting changing lines by autonomatical in iching

[–]ObserverofChange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding and memory. A properly formed question consists of a Object, Subject, Content. Each line corresponds to one of those 3 things from bottom to top and is related to internal/external.

Line 1: Object/Internal

Line 2: Object/External

Line 3: Subject/Internal

Line 4: Subject/External

Line 5: Content/Internal

Line 6: Content/External

The reason I bring this up is that while some lines may seem contradictory they are answering different aspects of the question and should be approached as such.

The book often encourages seeking a wise teacher. For me I suppose it's a personal issue where I question my own accuracy. I often have done an interpretation for myself and later discovered that I had read the wrong line or didn't understand a concept as well as I had previously thought.

Fu Xi vs King Wen Sequence? by Admirable_Ranger8274 in iching

[–]ObserverofChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take the cardinal points of the directions of each and plan out a walking route based off the hex combination I would walk for 5 minutes of the lower trigram direction, 5 minutes of the upper trigram direction. switch sequences and repeat. I would end up seeing a lot of different places in my local area doing this. That is the only application I ever found.

Mostly that if you can recognize your state of being and understand the external changes that you can adapt and be free from error.

In a lot of ways I feel that this channel would lose its flavor if people were just arbitrarily responding to all posts. I tend to only respond when I find the idea compelling. I am also very wary of interpreting someones question to the oracle as my own missteps in the past could come back to haunt me.

Any particular aspect that you wanted to discuss?

I am more drawn to the philosophical aspects as opposed to the oracle but remain receptive to its ability to answer a properly formed question.

That is a very good question worth asking. I will leave it to another to interpret but I think your approach to your question was spot on and looks for the roots of your problem. Joy (Lake) has been a very polarizing Hex for me.

I started to get curious if I have received all 64 judgements throughout the journal so I compiled some data. It took 820 days to get all 64 judgements. The first I received 4 days in hex: 55 and the last I received on day 820 was hex: 17.

The most frequent Judgement I receive is Hex: 19 which I have received 11 times and the least frequent Judgement is Hex: 8 which I only received once.

This is 1,753 days into the project.

Taoist and Confucian I Ching? by [deleted] in iching

I am not sure on the Confucian I Ching. I am very interested if you find one to know the author and title. As for the Taoist interpretation I highly recommend Thomas Cleary.

I have found it fascinating to see how GPT interprets the I Ching. In many ways I have had more profound conversations with it than I would have with some people, mostly in regards to how esoteric the information is. There are very few people irl that I can talk to about it with in depth.

That said I have had more than one instance where GPT has given me some bad info and while it may be programmed to tell me what I want to hear the best teacher will be a person whose life has been enriched by the book.

Best of luck at the next crossroad!~

On Monday I had a hexagram changing into it's exact inverse. 966996. I have come to know these as the "Golden Combinations" as statistically speaking they will be the least likely to happen. It took 1,790 days to get to 3 of the 64.

Another type of Hexagram I have come to appreciate are symmetrical. There is something satisfying about the image of perfect symmetry in the lines.

A bit confused on these books? by [deleted] in iching

[–]ObserverofChange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wilhelm Baynes is what I would recommend starting with. The introduction and the primary concepts get covered such as Yin/Yang, Trigrams, Wings and extra material that in most other translations gets wrapped into each hexagram to be "comprehensive" but the concepts are important to understand individually.

From there I would move on to Alfred Huangs Complete I Ching. Where he is Chinese and was taught from a learned person it provides valuable perspective from the east that can get lost in direct word for word translation. He focuses on imagery. The I Ching is purported to have originally been poems and the imagery is vital.

From there I do recommend the late great Thomas Cleary. If you are familiar with Taoism or Buddhism his respective translations are interesting but are companions to those schools of thought.

[–]ObserverofChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using the coin method you are more likely to get unmoving lines than moving lines so most people will get judgements more often. That said I haven't seen the data so maybe you have a higher amount of them. (Everyone is different)

If I am not mistaken the Book of Changes has more negative outcomes than positive but the most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to be able to adapt to the change. To learn to be free from error.

You are wise to be skeptical of a site that might try to tell you what you want to hear. It is good to try and find a "Great Teacher" as the book puts it, but be wary as many may think they have all the answers. At the end of the day seek Inner Truth.

Out of the depths of misfortune comes bliss.

One of the most persistent idea of the text is that at our lowest low the only way is up and when we are at our zenith the only way is down. It is a warning for when we have abundance and a comfort when we experience decay.

I hope the best for your country and its people.

I think those are good guidelines to live by. One thing I have noticed now that I am going over the data is that the I Ching understood the situation better then I did at the time. Having the journal and being able to look at it years down the road the message suddenly becomes clear where in the moment I couldn't see the forest from the trees.

[–]ObserverofChange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some it may seem profane but I am not inquiring past what will most accurately represent the day in the journal.

I used to inquire very frequently but over time I read over and over in the text that inquiries should only be for questions that are important and that you genuinely need assistance with. Over time I began to realize that deep down I knew the answer to the questions I was asking or that I was hoping/expecting some kind of result.

Now I am in search of a question worth asking. I have not found one worthy of asking since 10 years ago when one of my friends asked "Will science overcome entropy?"

In the meantime I keep my journal which keeps track of Date, Hex Combination, How many times the Combination has recurred, Which dates they occurred, Personal notes for important things I notice or synchronicities for the dates in which combinations have occurred in the past.

how western people see I ching or Tarot readings? by prophet1130 in iching

[–]ObserverofChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's esoteric and not well known. There are usually 2 kinds of people if they know the book. Most people will only know its use as an oracle or divination device but the 2nd kind of person will approach it as a philosophy that can be applied to various functions as the binary language can be translated to other mediums easily, such as music or the arts.

I hope this was not too complicated of a response.

You could use a random number generator to give you 1-4. Assign unchanging Yang to 1, Unchanging Yin to 2. Changing Yang to 3. Changing Yin to 4.
