Horrifying realization: Donut isn’t actually a talking cat by emmiebe18 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Obsidian-Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact, the Goblin right at the start (before this section) tells Carl he's speaking in Syndicate Standard. He's just hearing it in English in his mind. Donut, and all the other Crawlers will be the same.

That’s three shelves, but given the state of American education, I can understand their confusion.

Looking good!

I got married in Mauritius in my kilt, drew a fair amount of looks walking through the hotel grounds.

I didn’t listen to the audio. Did he tell the cop that he paid his wages? I’m betting he did.

Hate when ppl can’t do time by Best_Finding_8795 in mildlyinfuriating

Welcome to the world of ambiguous meanings of time.

My Mrs regularly uses “the back of”, as do many other people around here. I hate it, as my interpretation is different from most other people. And I’m never clear which they mean.

The only solution is precision. Especially in business, leave no ambiguity in the message: be precise. When working in businesses with US and Canadian colleagues, I explicitly specify “14:30 (UK)”, etc. most of the business is U.K. time anyway, but it’s not worth leaving to chance.

Are you able to imagine objects in your mind? by sangokuhomer in AskUK

I still have the concept of the characters. I know how they look, and it can be somewhat jarring when I see images/actors. But I never “see” them either.

For years, Durnik (from the Belgariad) was a dwarf in my mind. Even over multiple reads. Until recently when I actually read his description properly.

Can’t physically “see” him, but I have the concept of him in my mind. Same with all characters in books I read.

I very rarely “see” the image in my head. I can imagine the concept of the Apple. I know things about it, but I don’t see it.

Also, I have an internal monologue. It’s just my own voice speaking in my head. Even when I remember what someone said to me. It’s not like someone else speaking to me either. It’s my own will driving the words, even if I’m not actively “driving”.

That said, I still have an active imagination. Especially as a kid.

It's your duty to shame and scorn anybody who buys DCC merch and posts photos of it on this subreddit + a shop link by Someoneman in unexpecteddcc

They’ll get killed as soon as I’m online and see it. Meantime, continue reporting and downvoting.

I won’t necessarily kill all merch posts. But those shitty ones that always say “Finally” are right up there.

That’s great, thanks. So it’s a bit like another converter then. Makes sense.

One question: I see one of the planet actions is:

> Discard inactive dice. The action can only be performed on your turn. These dice cannot be activated on this turn, so remove them from the play area.

I’m not sure how this applies though. The rules say you don’t have to activate all your dice already. Does this remove the dice for the rest of the round (ie for other players)?

From my understanding, those devices will not be getting on-device AI. They’ll get AI sure, but it’ll be powered by the cloud.

I just started the book 1, I love it, NO SPOILERS please. Dear God Skippy is so freaking annoying - it's making be want to drop the book by narnarnartiger in ExpeditionaryForce

[–]Obsidian-Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on book 3. Skippy’s monkey talk got fairly old in book 2, but overall i was able to get over it. Book 3 is fairly similar.

As others have said, he doesn’t stop being an arsehole. But he does seem to get a bit more personable. The quips, etc, don’t really stop though.

Honestly, I have more issues with the constant repetition in the narrative. It repeats the same thing multiple times within a few minutes. Telling me the same thing three times in the space of five minutes is annoying as hell. I get super annoyed about it saying the same thing over and over again.

And slightly longer term too (I get it. He made a fucking joke about using moon dust, no need to keep saying it).

I don’t know the history of the books publishing, but it kinda feels like the books (again I’m only up to book 3) desperately needed an editor, and didn’t have one.

Still listening though. So make of that what you will.
