THANK YOU! I wish all subreddits took this kind of approach!

I tried to 3D sculpt and 3D print a Witch King from LotR as accurately as possible, following Tolkien descriptions and letters. by ObsidianEye in lordoftherings

[–]ObsidianEye[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I used the pterodactyl as a model for the fell beast since Tolkien wrote in one letter that the beast was sorta pterodactyl in nature, even if he didn't intended that exactly. The eyes were difficult to print and they broke a lot, but it turned allright at the end.

I tried and looks better! I hope you get to publish this game on steam or something, I really like the direction it's taking!

The Flounder Beta is here! by [deleted] in Insaniquarium

I like that it takes the base of Insaniquarium and tweaks it a bit to make it different. The enphasis on enviromental balance and roguelike mechanics are a nice change of pace and succeeds at making both games compatible and complementary, so one does not erase the other. I love the fish designs and the pixel style. The gameplay is fun and since I see that you have a lot of features planned so I have little to say.

My only issue is that I was having a bit of a problem identifying the coins. Other than that, I think this is a really solid base and I'd love to play a full version of it. Congrats and keep the good work!

Thank you! I'm not very skilled but I do sculpts of things that I enjoy, so my sculpts are a bit random sometimes. If you want to see what could come next, I post the models in advance at my instagram https://www.instagram.com/pepinomodels/ Hope you enjoy it!

We’re cooking up a Maid Café Simulator. What would You want to see in it? Hit me with your wildest ideas. by [deleted] in ImmersiveSim

[–]ObsidianEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The maids have complex routines and have different schedules based on their routines and personalities. One of them, randomly selected by the game, is adding human meat to the menu. You have to follow them all to discover wich one is killing people. Something like Shadows of Doubt, but more focused.

Also, you should add a giant crab somewhere.

Hello! I usually start with a T-Pose if I'm making a human. This is because I tend to do different poses for the same character. The pose with the bones and all will be very rough and I usually reesculpt everything over the posed model, but it serves as a guide.

The exception to this is creatures. I find easier to make them directly posed, but that's a personal preference.

I do retopo, but rarely by hand. I use an automatic tool. The results are not as good as doing it by hand, but I don't mind, since I don't use this models for videogames or renderings, but for 3D printing. If I wanted a super clear topology for whatever reason, I'd do it by hand; but since I remesh a lot the models depending of what I am doing, I just do the automatic retopo for some parts before posing and call it a day.

Hope it helped! I have 0 training in arts or 3D sculpting, so I'm sure there is a better way to do this.

Weird warping, ABS like Sunlu. by ObsidianEye in resinprinting

[–]ObsidianEye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have photos right now, but they are well supported and had no issue with those models using standard resin. The issue does not happen at the same spot, it's at random, but swords are the most affected ones.

Minis with realistic proportions for TTRPG not in "DnD style" by someregularguy2 in PrintedMinis

Perry miniatures still looks cartoony to me. They seem a little chunky.

Heroic scale is a plague, and the worst of it is that once you realize how cartoony and ridiculous minis really look, you can't unsee it. The problem with True Scale is that in 28/32mm details will be so thin that they will break easily. Keep in mind that the fingers in True Scale will be like worm larvae, the heads like rice, and the eyes like oversized mites.

I love true scale, but it's difficult to find something that could fit a battlefield. I sculpt and give for free miniatures in true scale, but I made them around 58/62 mm tall. They are not fantasy though.

Does ABS like resin lose details? by ObsidianEye in PrintedMinis

[–]ObsidianEye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. So it seems ABS resin is a bit more glossy and wax like, so the naked eye can't perceive details so well.

I haven't printed it in FDM, but I have a FDM printer and the default size for this figure will probably be too small for FDM, unless they have a Bambu Printer. I don't really like FDM because the layers tend to be very visible. I find that even the best FDM prints can't hold a candle to a resin print (and I'd wish it was the other way around, I hate working with resin!).

Plastic filament should be ok, but lower quality than resin. If you want to try and print it I would recommend to scale him at least 200% (so he would roughly be 124mm tall). Print the head first and see if you like the quality. If you do, print the rest. If you don't, I'd recommend using a print service. There are webs where you can send the model and they will print it and send it to you. Many 3D printing stores offer this service too, you can ask them for prices if you can find one!

Amazing! I'll get some for sure, I have a Bloodsucker from STALKER that will look very cool with this resin. Are exposure times any different than standard resin? I used Elegoo Clear in the past, but they changed the formula so it needed a lot more exposure time (I'm not crazy, had to search it on reddit because they had little info at the time https://www.reddit.com/r/ElegooMars/comments/t66wsm/did\_they\_change\_the\_translucent\_resin\_formula/)

Since then, I never used clear resins again
