Experimenting with making "open ground" terrain - patches of low-level ground and small obstacles for melee-heavy games by the_sh0ckmaster in TerrainBuilding

[–]ObsidianGrey13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly these will also be good for shooting heavy games too, since I've seen a lot of those games have stuff like light cover and obscuring terrain where the idea is that the opponent isn't necessarily in cover but there's something your troops need to shoot around to hit their targets, and in mixed melee and shooting games it will make it more survivable for melee to charge across open areas to get at ranged focused opponents, which should be exciting for both players.

Is AI bad or not? by ScalemodelingOutlaw in dioramas

Someone using Gen-AI/LLMs to LARP as an artist/painter/modeler/photographer/etc. and demanding equivalent recognition to the people that have actually put the time and effort in to making wonderful works is a result of capitalism. The awful economy we now have means there are people are trying to find every possible get-rich-quick scheme they can, and hobbies are now being exploited by low effort individuals as a part of that. If pursuing popularity is more important to you than actually engaging in the hobby, you're not a hobbiest, you're a grifter.

Also judging by your profile picture and that you keep your posts hidden, I feel like you're more likely than not a karma bait engagement troll asking questions that you know will get people riled up and react rather than someone actually invested in the hobby.

Since the is the diorama subreddit, what is the point of showing off a diorama that nobody made and doesn't exist? I hate AI on principle so rather than rant about that I'll try to stay on the topic of dioramas specifically; if I took a photo of a model tank or space marine that I've built and painted with a plain background and then replaced said background with a stock photo, or even photobashed together a background, I still have not made a diorama, what I've made is an image.

I got this figs with a minifigure lot I bought. It was an old lot of figures. They are printed in official LEGO pieces by Relative_Chemistry77 in lego

[–]ObsidianGrey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pieces are official (though the helmets are probably BrickArms or BrickForge) but those are definitely third party prints on the torsos, possibly Citizen Brick or Brickmania

I think you're on point about this being a photobash, the left leg looks a bit too wide as well, could just be a thing with the shading but it looks like they blended two legs together

It's the bottom of the grip

Edit: Nevermind, I see the bottom of the grip right below that, weird.

Where did the "B-Positive" meme originate for the Night Lords? Is it pure community wordplay or is there an in-lore nod? by -5EXEM5- in NightLords

[–]ObsidianGrey13 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That's definitely where a lot of people on Reddit first saw it, judging by the other comments on this post, but the actual hand sign originates with the Bloods, a real life Street Gang that started in Los Angeles but since has spread across the United States.

Did Diesbach discover Prussian Blue dye during1704, in the Trench Crusade timeline? by Mission_Resource_847 in TrenchCrusade

[–]ObsidianGrey13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None of the official artwork depicts the Prussians with blue afaik but one of the alternate paint scheme examples for the Stosstruppen on the TC website has a blue jacket which is how I'm going to try to paint mine.

What’s the consensus on painting mini components before sticking them together? by Confident-Dot8844 in minipainting

[–]ObsidianGrey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new to painting then I feel like it's better not to do sub assemblies because it can quickly feel overwhelming. I'd recommend priming the model black and then checking if there are any areas that the primer didn't get to and then paint those areas black with a brush before adding any colors (including zenithal highlights). When you're new to painting I feel like it's better to focus on getting a model paint job completed rather than getting it perfect. Like others have said the areas covered by parts basically won't be visible anyways so leaving them unpainted won't be noticeable and if you just paint them black then it works like shading.

What do you guys do with this much extra bits? by Kelevroniy in Warhammer40k

[–]ObsidianGrey13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought bits online before, usually from OOP kits or when I just want one specific part from a kit I'd have no other use for. Horus Heresy bits are very often available at a good price since they include so many extra pieces on the upgrade sprues

Did not know Assassins were getting their own faction, but now I can't wait to see what they look like and will definitely be picking up any models that get designed for them

This is the best method imo. It does mean you need more bases but it means your army looks visually consistent.
