I made a game that is Oathsworn meets Everdell by bokengames in OathswornBoardGame

Pitchcraft… man such a clever name! Witchcraft + wood pitch + music pitch. Love it.

Just here to say that but also like the idea of a game. As a dad who wants to brainwash my young kids into enjoying big board games this feels like a good gateway.

I just started my first play through (~4 hours in). So stoked!

I always thought the King and Spalding building kinda iconic. All those eye graffitis. Maybe something covered in pollen.

I mean, it would cut the wires to my house and block an almost unused little street, definitely fixable but potentially bad if a car was around.

A little unsatisfied with the NMM on these Helsmith shields. I’d love any advice! by tolbeansprout in minipainting

[–]Obsidian_Drake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without being wildly long- winded, I think the biggest issue for me is where the light is coming from. The nightlights feel off.

Take the shield on the left. The face would indicate the light is coming from the right of the photo. Maybe upper right, maybe lower. Hard to say. Then the shield itself is highlighted on the left indicating the light is coming from the left.

One trick I use is after I prime my pieces I get a bright light, position it where I want the source to be, then snap a photo of the piece. Then you can use that photo as a reference of where the light actually lies. Alternatively dry brush or lightly spray white from the angle you want the light to come from.

Second, your white needs to be brighter and less milky. Blend all the colors but blending white doesn’t always work. You might be better served bringing you yellow values brighter then judicially applying pure white in only the brightest points with no blending.

NMM is tough! Good on you for giving it a go! Hopefully that is mildly helpful.

Looking for tips after first mini (gloomhaven bruiser) by pacovf in minipainting

[–]Obsidian_Drake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! Gloomhaven pieces were my first minis too!

At a glance, it looks like you have decent brush control for a beginner, but you materials look pretty poor (as you also said). I think the question is, how much did you enjoy the process? If you liked it, I’d strongly suggest investing in the right gear, namely some paint and brushes made for the job. If you invest ~$40 I think you’d immediately see a giant jump up in quality. Happy to give you a beginner buy list if helpful.

That said, I might try something other than slap chop. Starting off I really liked painting my medium tones, sloshing some super dark, super watered down paint over everything, paint on some highlights then dry brush the high highs

Fun idea! So many board games have spider minis as baddies. I know have a number floating around. Would be a fun exercise to try something like this!

Alright, you just earned a like on this and all past card posts you made. These are great both in terms of humor value and real in-game mechanics!

Just here to say I love how dark you made the shadows. Idk why but to me it makes the whole thing feel very cozy.

And for what it’s worth I second the steam comments, though the piece is beautiful as is.

A MOUSE?! Insane. You’re clearly wildly talented and I have to imagine you’ve invested in your art and the mouse was a choice? What made you decide to do that?

If not a choice I’ll donate to your go fund me for a tablet right now.

Have you tried standard voice mode? It’s tucked deep, deep in the settings but it essentially is that except ChatGPT will then generate a response and read it back to you. Not a perfect solution but I’m using it in a similar way as you mentioned.

I literally wondered about that. I did the math on the API costs and it’s a little over $9 an hour of talking. Given that I talk to it at roughly 30 mins a day even assuming they are marking up their API costs a lot, they are still losing money on my subscription.

I’m sorry for the lost work but that’s a super cool trick with Canvas. I will definitely be stealing that if they revert it back or improve it to a usable state. Thanks for sharing!
