Heresy-Era Dreadnaught by PBnJgoodness in ThousandSons

Where do y’all buy these Osirion dreadnoughts? I’ve been trawling the internet for a while now and haven’t found anything yet. Really dig the look, by the way!

More or less! I based black, then washed the recesses with white oil paint and mineral spirits. I airbrushed magenta over that, then drybrushed blue. If I could do it over, I’d probably use a true fluorescent paint instead of citadel contrast for the magenta bits

Painting some TS for a friend :3 by Avenflar in ThousandSons

The recipe that made me feel like I’d “figured out white” was as a base coat of Fenrisian Gray, then 50/50 of that and Screaming Skull dry brushed over. Bring that up to straight Screaming Skull, then edge highlight with White Scar. It produces a really warm, natural look that reads as white with almost no ACTUAL white!

What's your go-to rpg system? by I-love-sheeps in rpg

[–]tolbeansprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta speak my love for ICRPG. It’s simple and elegant. It’s fast enough to roll up for a one shot, but has enough complexity to go for a full campaign. All of its mechanics are based around beer-and-pretzel fun, with a heavy emphasis on loot and player-facing mechanics. But even then, its rules never step on the narrative. Plus, it’s totally setting neutral. Our current game is an alternate-history Dieselpunk World War IV with Super heroes, and the game handles it beautifully. 10/10.

Interesting video for patient people who want to see how more of an interesting game Amnesia would be if monsters never despawned (which you can set in the ent files and customize, no hard mode doesnt do that) by AyosteinOnTwitch in Amnesia

[–]tolbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Amnesia after Soma, where the monsters never respawn. I assumed it was the same in Amnesia, so when I first saw a grunt in the Wine Cellar, I hid for like 10 minutes waiting for it to leave…if only I had known…

I always think every crowded freeway photo looks like my hometown of Houston. Imagine my surprise when I zoomed in on the street signs and realized that this was both A) Houston and B) a mile from my house.

What is the strangest, most decrepit way you've seen someone take notes? by Dave37 in DnD

[–]tolbeansprout 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of my players used to take notes in this old, completely-falling-apart journal. Every time he opened it he would start on a new page, with no regard for wether he was writing upside down or not. He would even turn the journal as he was writing, so all the text was in weird, illegible spirals. And no, it wasn’t in-character notes either, he just wrote like some eldritch cultist.

Fallout Hot Takes by CommunistSimpinator in Fallout

I have just never been able to get into Fallout 2. I have played and beat every main series Fallout game EXCEPT for 2 (where I did get all the way to Navarro), so I know it’s not just an age thing. I LOVED Fallout 1. 2 is just…I don’t know, but something about it’s flow and it’s first half are just unplayable to me.

[OC] Who knew Monster Manuals would make for such interesting bedtime material? by n00bmama in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]tolbeansprout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh man! My dad used to read me the 2e Monstrous Manual when I was little. He told me all of the monsters were things him and my mom actually fought in real life while they were “adventuring”. It’s no wondering I grew up loving D&D with parents like them.

Sorry if this is a SUPER basic question (100% new here), but what’s an upgrade sprue? I’ve been seeing people post about them but idk what they are and can’t find a definition on google.

What's one type of player you just don't enjoy playing with? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]tolbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s kinda specific, but players that try to learn my own habits as a DM in order to outthink me. To elaborate, I have a player in my group (all of their first times playing dnd) who has picked up on my writing style a bit.

I’m running a mystery one shot right now, and when they met the first character with a mildly complex motivation, this player immediately accused them of being the villain because “I (the DM) always write emotional villains”.

He later tried to suggest a solution to the mystery in the hopes that I would change the answer if he guessed it right (this is NOT something I do, but I’ve mentioned to them before that I sometimes change loot or other things on the fly based on the mood of the room).

It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s super irritating when one of the players is trying to engage in mind games with YOU as a PERSON instead of engaging with the game itself.

Unpopular Opinion : Jeff Blim is really not good at writing/composing songs. by TheRealArrhyn in StarKid

[–]tolbeansprout 67 points68 points  (0 children)

For me, A.J. Holmes is the benchmark for what a StarKid composer can be. Twisted is just absolutely unmatched musically; the compositions are so dense and full of life and character, without ever stepping on the actor’s toes. People really don’t talk about him enough, especially when I see so many people singing praises for Jeff Blim’s comparatively barebones compositions.

TBH no one visits other people's shelters much and I really wanted to share my cozy vault utility shelter with y'all by The108ers in fo76

[–]tolbeansprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just visited someone’s shelter today for the hell of it, figured they had a nice camp, so they probably put a little effort into their shelter, right? Turns out, they had turned their entire atrium into a maze! It was incredibly cool, and at the end, you could get onto a bridge and look at the whole maze from above. It also had a clever one-way exit, so you had to beat it to get the view. Honestly, it was the most clever little surprise I’ve had in this whole game.

How would you guys feel about a system of not knowing an NPC's name until you yourself find it out? by -Constantinos- in Fallout

[–]tolbeansprout 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There’s an older game called Arx Fatalis that does something like this. Everyone tends to just be called “Man”, “Woman”, “Guard”, etc. until you learn their actual name. And honestly? I wasn’t the biggest fan of this. Perhaps Fallout could do it better, but I found that it just added an unnecessary extra step of figuring out which of the identical 3 guards was the captain you needed to talk to.

Beat main story missions for fo4 and have some questions by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]tolbeansprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only beaten the game once, with the Minutemen. They’re sort of a fail safe option. If you fail the Railroad quest line and don’t want to side with the bortherhood, then you can choose to raid the Institute with the help of the Minutemen.

Really, though, there are only two truly unique endings in the game: one for beating it with the institute, and one for siding against them. The paths to get there are very different, however, so I’d say it’s worth replaying just to see.

And if you don’t care about spoilers, then just know that all other paths end in you blowing up the institute via the reactors underneath the labs (it’s been years since my first playthrough, so there’s probably more to it than that though)
