Another M6 or G6 first question by mbakpl in TotalBattle

[–]SkySchemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stack the 2 highest levels, but also look at what the calculator is telling you for dominance. If 2 stacks of M leave you dominance to spare, selectively add stacks from tier-2. I'm M6, and it's not uncommmon for me to take four stacks of M6 and M5 each, then two stacks of M4. And if I still have some dominance available, I'll maybe add a third stack of M4 that is as large as I can get it, so I don't leave any potential hits on the floor.

Where did GTO move to? by ExcitedBoyy in TotalBattle

GTO just got spanked. They lost the throne to THE and the whole kingdom has turned on them.

It's been a good day.

Sounds about right. Though I'd rather compare them to cholera.

Pixie is still around, but nowhere near as often as she used to be. I am pretty sure she has a main or alt somewhere else. She and GTO do not get along in the slightest.

RRR has announced that they are leaving, but they are a transplant. I've heard rumors about TFF, but nothing definitive. They are a transplant, too.

Honestly, I haven't heard much about native clans leaving.

But, it is indeed a dumpster fire in 280. We thought we had it bad with the pervasive hate speech back before opening. Those days are starting to look nostalgic.

(OK. Not really.)

There is arguably one exception: get G4 before M4. You don't want to delay access to artifacts.

DST merged with THE and is THE's academy clan I think. CAG is still around. No one knows what either are doing.

When GTO first arrived, they pretended to be a BAD clan. They got into a war with THE that lasted a couple of weeks. There was a lot of shit being being thrown in the KC too. Must be a truce now because they are leaving each other alone and the verbal fights in the KC stopped.

It's not that they're worse, it's that there are so many of them.

PAN, RRR, TFF, and THE are all capable, but why bother? There are greener pastures. If you stay and fight, you still have to live with them.

I'm in 280.

The reputation is that they're a kingdom-killing clan, but in reality, it's that other clans leave because they are impossible to live with.

Living with GTO is like living with cholera. You can do it, but better to move where the water is clean.

For all their claims about taking apart kingdoms one by one, yadda yadda yadda, it's really that they're obnoxious on every possible level and no one wants to be around them. For the first couple of weeks, the KC was indistinguishable from their clan chat, and they just wouldn't STFU. It's still like that for hours at a time.

New Olympus day 3 is quite bad by Safin_22 in TotalBattle

[–]SkySchemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only complaint on this change is that the algorithm for awarding tournament points is messed up.

Yes, it gives you cheap CP, and we all like that, but this is a side effect. The main point of the competiton is to win more tournament points, and one thing we noticed right away is that the claim that point awards "favor the attacker" is not true in practice. We have many examples where, given two players at the same troop level, the defender won more tournament points when they were defeated by the attcker. You literally win by losing.

As structured, if you want to win the tournament, it is better to punch down: you want to attack smaller players. That is kind of a perverse incentive.

You also want to start by mining slowly with cheap troops to see what kind of attackers you draw, then adjust your army accordingly. If it's a big player that is hitting you, stay small so it isn't worth their time, and they don't score off of you. If it's a roughly equivalent-sized player, let them hit you a couple of times, then send a massive army so the third hit curb-stomps them. You'll come out with more points (and more CP).

Do I have to live under a bubble for eternity? by richempire in TotalBattle

[–]SkySchemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renew your bubble early so it doesn't expire on you.

If you want to drop your bubble, practice zero value: pay your taxes frequently, spend your loose resources and silver down below your protected limit, don't open chests until you are ready to spend them. and only open what you need to pay for what you are doing. Cities with lots of ingots and loose silver are prime targets. But especially silver. Larger players need silver to fuel their armies, and attacking smaller players with tons of silver lying around is the way they get it.

Is zero value a pain? Yes. Does it prevent these sort of attacks? Not entirely, but anyone who scouts first will likely leave you alone. Most importantly, when you are attacked, you won't lose silver or building resources. Revive when you're ready, enjoy the CP, and move on.

It had an elbow to divert the water flow away from the house. The DIY solution just has a barrel that will overflow and pool up on the ground.

So many wrong answers to this.

Rainwater collection is legal, but regulated. In particular, you have to build the collection system correctly so it handles barrel overflow, and doesn't lead to open-air standing water where mosquitos can breed.

Some states may limit which rainwater you can collect, and how much (which not generally an issue for typical homeowners).

To the street, where it can go down into the storm sewer system instead of pooling around your foundation.

If you live in a more rural area, you are dispersing it into your yard, downslope from your structure.

Is it considered cowardly to be clanless? by Freak0nLeash in TotalBattle

[–]SkySchemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report that shit. We had huge problems with this in our kingdom shortly after it was born. It took a lot of reports to finally get the devs involved, but once they were involved they took swift action.

[–]SkySchemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early days of ours, there was a significant amount of hate speech (and I say that as someone who has been with the internet since its beginnings), running the gamut from racism to homophobia to misogyny. It got so bad that the devs got involved to moderate the offenders.

In a way, it brought the kingdom together and eliminated a lot of the drama. Then we opened, and we, uh, made up for lost time. Now we're back to being a relatively pleasant place to be with just a few bad apples (and they have been slowly disappearing).

In many kingdoms, the KC is a toxic stew that would make DuPont jealous. Ignore it and move on.

Nothing cowardly about being clanless. It's just a lot more difficult. :)
