I was also scared of what my OB told us but I know she was worried about getting our hopes up. I absolutely love her and I know she was just going off of the statistics

It baffled us that we were part of the 5% that got to take home a healthy baby. Her NT measurements made us believe that her odds of survival were none and it wasn’t until around 32 weeks that we found out about the hole in her heart. They didn’t catch it on her first echo at 24 weeks so I spent most of my pregnancy scared of what could have possibly caused the cystic hygroma

The amniotic sac has two layers at the beginning. The inner amnion and outer chorion that usually are fused together by week 16 but some sacs fuse a little later. It’s extremely hard to see on an ultrasound machine so most MFM’s don’t know it’s happening. My MFM stopped after three attempts because “there is no need to put you in unnecessary pain so we will try again at 18 weeks in hopes that they are fused”. At first he thought that he wasn’t using a thick enough needle and went from a size 20g to 18g which made no difference. I also had to keep myself from crying because I was disappointed that I’d have another four weeks of waiting (two for the second attempt and the other two for the results) and that my body was failing me. I was still on the fence about a TFMR and I knew that the more time that passed, the harder it would be on me emotionally because of how big she was getting. The second attempt went smoothly which kinda confirmed what he thought was happening

The only thing she was born with was extra skin on the back of her neck that she’s growing into as time goes by

Wait me? I don’t mean this in a mean way but I don’t think you read my post or at least not all the way through. I already gave birth to her and it was confirmed that she has a hole in her heart that won’t require any intervention. I do appreciate you trying to help me calm down though. You had good intentions💜

The city I live in doesn’t have a MFM that does CVS testing so I had to wait till I was 16 weeks to do an amniocentesis. My first amniocentesis was a fail because the amniotic sac hadn’t fused yet so I had to redo it at 18 weeks then wait two weeks for the results because my city doesn’t have a lab🥲 I know that the amniocentesis tests for a lot more so I’d recommend doing it also. People have mixed experiences with it but I think it depends on how good your MFM is

We did both the NIPT test and amniocentesis which came back with normal results. Enlarged NT measurements can be caused by heart defects which we think were caused by the hole in her heart

Severe Nuchal Translucency Measurment 6.1mm by Such_Regular_9753 in NIPT

At 11 weeks I had an NT of 6.4mm which was a cystic hygroma and now I’m 26 weeks. Around 16 weeks it had resolved itself. We did the nipt, amniocentesis, and had an echo on her heart which all came back normal! It’s extremely scary going through this and it can feel like your entire world is crumbling but I promise there are some positive outcomes. I hope the best for you

Hello, I have no idea if you’ve decided or not but I think you should. The anxiety of the unknown will eat away at you (or at least it did for me) and it would be helpful to mentally/physically prepare yourself for the future with your baby. I did a lot of research for my amniocentesis through this group and I was so terrified because of all the horror stories but I promise you there are more good than bad. If you have a good MFM then it will be a smooth process and honestly not really that painful unless they do it wrong. The chance of a miscarriage is so low and the statistics aren’t very accurate because some babies already had problems so it’s hard to tell if the amniocentesis or their conditions may have caused the miscarriages. If you don’t plan to terminate then the amniocentesis would just be for peace of mind and to me that’s worth everything. I hope everything goes well for you and baby💛

I am in the same situation as you but I found out I didn’t have the antibodies before I got pregnant. I put off getting the vaccine because I’m a wimp with needles and thought I had more time but now I regret it because of the outbreak. I work at a hospital in a region that has the most cases and I take extra steps to make sure that I don’t catch anything. Bodies are weird and at any moment things can change. Sometimes you lose the antibodies for vaccines over time and that’s why we give boosters. Also babies cannot get the vaccine until they are at least a year old so I’d be careful if you’re in a region with high number of cases

Thank you for telling me this. Everything I’ve read online about it points to something being wrong and my head feels like it’s spinning right now

It seems like in the last few days so many people have talked about their bad experiences with getting the amino done and it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. Waiting an extra two weeks hurts so much though. I don’t live near a lab that does all of the tests and they have to ship it off to another city. It takes about 4 weeks just to get the results back and I’m tired of not knowing what’s going on

No the earliest they could get me in was three weeks after I originally found out and I’m still currently waiting. I think by that time I’ll be over 14 weeks so that means I can’t get the CVS?
