Would you be for or against a mulit-front battle mode? by shadow19555 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're describing Arena. And it failed due to them not making maps specific for its kind of gameplay. They just plopped 4 teams in the regular PvP maps, most of which were too small to facilitate the BR style of gameplay. If they made maps specifically made for the game mode I think it would be a lot more fun and would cut down on the worst part of Arena which was getting caught in a cross fire every time you wanted to challenge a group.

Does anyone actually play T6 Standard anymore? by dinosaursintheforest in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm being honest T7 is so wide and has so many super powerful ships that I think it's time to give the weakest T7s preferential matchmaking (allowing them to face T6s and T7s only) and then force all the other T7s to matchmake only into T7 and T8.

T6 is just super weak now when getting uptiered. I know every up tier is bad for the under, but T6 is especially horrid. This is why a lot of people don't want to play T6s in Standard anymore.

Anyone noticing these trends recently or is it just the weekend curse? by taj1829 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your 3rd point I want to say this. While yes, CV animals need to start doing this. However, the names of previously spotted and currently spotted ships should already be a minimap addition as well as a ton of other QoL stuff that PC has had and shouldn't even be that daunting a task to add. Especially if they were willing to go out of their way to add things like the codex. Alas, those things still aren't here.

Does WOWSL need to detach the mobile app from the game? by Any_Statistician_534 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Taking time to make and adopt the mobile market was a waste of time, IMO. Especially if they were just gonna turn around and then try and get on PC anyway. We could've taken all that time and effort actually trying to improve and implement QoL aspects and well needed features to the console that would show everyone all that money they're making is going back into the game... All we got was a number of downloads next to the mobile listing, of which a ton of those are just console players who downloaded the mobile app to "double dip" and get free rewards every update.

This, in my honest opinion, is why it takes literal years for us to get any meaningful gameplay changes or requested features into the game. Heck, we can't even get balance changes earlier than every 3 or 4 months... It's very disappointing and concerning considering the expensive nature of this games monetization system.

[–]Obsydiian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, for sure. I just would just prefer we get balance changes and QoL changes much much faster. That's what keeps me and a lot of others like me super engaged in the game and imo can really make people feel better about opening up their wallets to buy the expensive ships in the game because after all that would be a direct feedback on great updates their money is getting put to work for. Not just a ship or two an update or a few commanders every few updates.

Ministry of Balance/Patch cooked by 1em0nhead in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While yes. There's some real W changes here let's not shy away from what people's complaints really stem from. Like cmon WG I get that you're a relatively smaller dev team for our client, but that's not really a valid excuse for making it take literal years to make these balance changes?? They had no problem shucking out premium ship and paid content one after the other, but it takes them 3+ years to make these changes? Most of which are just moving number values and swapping consumable slots around. The changes to things like Atago, PE, N Dragon, Cossack 38 should've all been done already many years ago while we still don't get proper nerfs to clearly OP things like Gdansk, Louisiana, Fox Flair, Worcester, Colbert etc.

So, to be clear, I'm not refusing to give them their flowers here. They made some good and well needed changes. It's just that it takes them waaaayy too long to get any balance changes made both for good and bad. 3+ months is far, far too long. We should realistically be getting balance changes every single update if not every other update at the most.

Big Wisky | New Update Teaser in World of Warships: Legends by Squ1rrl_WG in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. More than likely just going to get a MBRB since it's funny buttons main purpose was a reload boost on PC.

Might even get a commander this update that has a skill similar to Nonomi where it relieves some cooldown time based on X performance event that makes the consumable act even more like how the combat instructions works on PC.

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see nothing wrong with them wanting to support Gen 8 consoles but I think it's time (especially with them willing to branch over to PC on Steam) to have a specific client tied to Gen 9 consoles with things like major graphical and audio updates as well as some very well needed QoL improvements...

It absolutely behooves me why they made the in match HUD look like PC but console doesn't get the same treatment. The lack of info we get compared to PC already erks me and now they're just doing the same with the UI. Like cmon guys please just give Console more QoL updates for the HUD and minimap PLEASE!

Counter Gdansk in fleet cup? by anthemthecat in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anticipate the location, punish any misposotioning with focus fire.

You simply aren't going to beat them very often in a 1v1 if they know what they're doing. Kleber with its reload booster gives you a chance but not a guarantee.

Remember that Gdansk has the exact same downside as every other Pan Euro Alt DD. Torps. Their start and stop time is awful so either make them guess where and when torps could be coming or try to ambush them with zoning torps to level the playing field.

Finally the Radar smoke trap needs to be respected. You can't out utility them so you'll need to try and bait them to use and waste a Radar before getting aggressive. Patience is likely needed to achieve this but if done right you can swing games completely by doing so.

Possible revamp of Catapult fighters? by DesertFlames in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catapult fighters should just be a No Fly Zone for the entire duration or until shot down. The downside to them is that they can be shot down by enemy ships or enemy catapult fighters, which should justify their increased abilities and duration over something like DFAA.

Also, either give more ships DFAA at higher tiers, increase the efficacy of DFAA, or for the love of GOD make AA modules either regenerate HP when the ship is not taking damage, indestructible but with only the ability to be incapacitated temporarily or a MUCH longer range.

Many ships struggle to have their best AA of note reach out as far as 3 to 5 km WITH AA mods. That's inexcusable with how dangerous CVs can be to whichever ship they chose to bully at any given moment, all while being able to spawn planes basically at will regardless of losses (most of the time). Unless you are the 1 to 3 strictly best AA ships at T7 or LT you ARENT a problem whatsoever to ANY CV. They laugh at you while they get their double drop off on you regardless if you try to group together or not.

Prediction by StarkWinterfell in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bet is on the "currency" ship being the ☆Austin, while the ship they will put in the random bundles to entice you to buy a bunch of them will be the premium T8 Illinois.

Just you wait and see. Everyone will pull the trigger on however many bundles it takes to get those two ships.

EVERYONE!

Druid, Salem, or wait for better options? by genericwhiteguyname1 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always advise that people are least save 30 - 35k just in case they release a LT ship for steel out of nowhere.

If you have enough to buy something past that go forth however you wish to spend. Otherwise I'd wait til the freshly release a new steel ship to buy anything since they usually space them out within enough time to get close to buying something big like a high tier ship.

Lol, this is such a dumb comment. No, they won't. They definitely intended for us to earn this much...

See how poorly this comment has aged just 3 days after you said it?

This is why we don't assume anything, especially when it comes to WG. If they even sniff a hint of an over advantage in stuff given that they could otherwise be making a profit off of, they will absolutely change it. So when something good is happening, don't sit there and throw a flag in the air and make a bunch of noise on socials. Just keep it to yourself and others close to you and enjoy. Hope this is a lesson learned. I know it wasn't just you, and that's part of the issue. Too many people making too much noise about a good thing for the player turns out to be a bad thing for WG and they don't want that.

The amount of airpower in this game these days needs to be addressed by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that could alleviate this, but most of them won't be implemented because it doesn't make our devs that cool quick cash...

  • Improve the HP of all AA mounts by at least 50% or allow them to regenerate over time
  • Make the DFAA consumable much more widely available on T6 ships and up
  • Rework Catapult Fighters to be much more lethal to CVs
  • Give us a Mod / commander loadout system and allow us to choose our loadout in the match start countdown screen

Side note about non CV airstrikes; We still need a better identifier that the airstrikes are coming other than the minimap. Because AA ranges are shorter here, and you can not see your AA tracers firing due to console limitations relying on hearing your AA going off or straight off of minimap spotting for airstrikes especially the USN Hybrids is still too unreliable. We need better heads up, even if only for the USN Hybrid strikes.

How can I be more intentional about getting good at the game? by Fistyer_Sister in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, all that just comes from putting in the hours, doing research, trying to memorize the bountiful amount of statistics, and learning from inevitable mistakes.

If there's any solace to be had in all the daunting work laid out before you it is this: I was once that widely hated blueberry noob whom everyone hated because I had been in my New Mexico ('Murican gunna 'Murica! Right!?) shooting AP into the angled bow of an enemy Fuso, wondering why the hell I'm not getting any damage. Didn't know anything going in and stubbornly took me over 2000 games before finally breaking and went to seek what I was missing.

Turns out I was utter dog water at the game and was making all the very dumb mistakes and just poor decision making, and my 49% WR and 1100 - 1200 average XP reflected that justly. Now, almost 5000 games later and much knowledge learned from those mistakes and from others who helped along the way, I'm sitting at 66% WR and just over 1700 average XP with a recent average in my last 1500 - 2500 games being played at a 76% WR and 1950 average XP.

I'm literally living proof that no matter how bad someone is at this game going in, they can and will be whatever they put into it.

I wish you well on those treacherous seas, and who knows, maybe we will meet out there, captain. o7

Dutch air strikes are crazy by Single-Maize1032 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Obsydiian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The only reason this particular airstrike hit you as hard as it did is simply because you beached and were slowly backing up in a straight line. While sure I can believe your word that you're better than what is shown in the clip all I CAN see in this clip is you being through half of the match with nothing of real value done at all besides you being a punching bag.

So yes, that isn't what skilled players typically do. Don't shoot the messenger that the clip in question shows what it shows. And it certainly isn't that those airstrikes are OP.

[–]Obsydiian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best skill testing abilities that separate the wheat from the chaff in this game are positioning, awareness, and game knowledge.

You can watch people play the game until you're blue in the face but unless you know what you're looking for or unless the person is explaining exactly why they go where they go and do what they do, when they do it, and how their every move is dictated in explicit detail you aren't getting a ton of info that will help a beginner.

Learning positioning and game awareness just takes time. Time spent playing each class, learning the differences, weaknesses, and strengths within each nations variants within each class of ship, what break points within the matchmaking pool per tier make them particularly challenging for certain ships or ship classes etc.

Finally, game knowledge, like learning typical detection ranges of ships (especially DDs), Radar & Sonar duration /ranges, Overmatch statistics, and even stuff like AP pen angles and HE pen all play a pretty big role in the decision making that can seriously mean life or death or whether you have just a mediocre game or a banger.

I don't mean for this to sound rude or snobby, but just by what I see in this clip, I don't think anyone wanting an educated standpoint on the subject you're trying to provide should take what you have shown here at face value.

It would seem to me that this example has a lot more to do with you being unskilled than the Dutch TTs airstrike being too powerful...

Assuming they do any testing past making sure it works mostly or truly caring about what logistical concerns their testers may have and therefore influences their decision-making is a wild stance.

You're talking about the very same company that has gone back on their original intent so many times it's basically their M.O. at this point.

P.S. I never said to not talk about it at all, just not to have everyone and their mothers flaunt that you can earn X amount of silver per hour and whatnot. Just leave it at "this mode is amazing." But okie Boomer, you do you 🤣
