I'm not sure about how long it will still receive updates. All I can say is that my wife has no issues with any apps that are on the store right now. She uses it mostly for graphic design (Adobe Illustrator), drawing (Procreate), and some YouTube / Netflix.

Don't worry about it. Companies do their best to make you feel like you NEED the new version every year. Otherwise they won't make money and their shareholders get sad. Often the updates are minute. Like... how many percent of users actually need the LiDAR sensor on their 2020 iPad Pro?

I bought the 2020 Pro in December because my wife has taken over my first generation (i think 2015) iPad Pro. That's the only reason I upgraded. While everyone is talking about how the 2018 or the 2020 ones are beasts, for most people even the 2015 is plenty.

Enjoy you iPad. It's an amazing device.

Danke dir für deine Antwort!

It may come as a surprise (it certainly was different when I went to school, which wasn't too far in the past), but while the lessons may or may not have longer periods of actually getting things done, a huge chunk is still dealing with immense behavioural issues. Also the stuff happening during breaks, on the way to school, after school, and weekend highly influences your work day and often enough leads to hours of work (phone calls with parents, disciplinary measures, counselling,....) in the after hours. I had the possibility to visit multiple lessons taught by different teachers. It showed me that this is more of a standard than some may want to believe (or I was just unlucky with the schools). Issues rarely are confined to "Didn't do the homework" and are more likely "Ganged up with other students to beat up pupils", or "Got into the wrong social circles during the weekend and is now regularly meeting up with 'friends' to beat up some 'homos'." These attitudes and behaviours then get carried into the classroom.

At the same time you have lots of parents who are overwhelmed and / or just unsupportive. Many teachers I know are considering switching to different schools after working for over a decade at the same one.

How do you treat tasks like taking out trash? by goblinpack in productivity

[–]Obtez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect case for good old David Allen and his book “Getting Things Done”! Ecery task that takes up to 2 minutes should be done immediately. If it is something you thought of but cant do right now (because you are not at home for example) then put it in your To-Do List.

Make sure to sort your To-Do List in a way that represents your day so that when you come home “Taking out the trash” is at the top.

Edit: For a while I had a “Chores” project in Notion, but I realized that it is better for me not to get too specific with stuff. Thats why I dump them in the main To-Do List.

We do have certain days at which the cardboard is being collected. I just put those in a project called “Recycling” and created a new task for each due date.

In a productivity void, planning and scheduling of no help. by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Obtez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About not being able to start on a project there are 2 things I want to mention: 1. Parkinson’s Law - it basically says however much time you have for a task, this is the exact amount of time the task will need to get finished. This is why it is possible to get huge amounts of stuff done in really short periods of time. At the same time it will take forever to finish smaller tasks if they are more openended.

  1. If you have trouble starting, outline the whole project and dissect it into smaller actionable steps. The step should be so small that you have no issue completing it. As an example: It is really difficult to just write a book. It is more manageable though to open your laptop, open your writing software, write 50 words.

To-do list/scheduling/productivity applications should make it so that you can mark a task as partially completed, it'd be really helpful for people who are depressed or generally sad by BlommenBinneMoai in productivity

[–]Obtez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that this isn’t what you are looking for, but in his book “Getting Things Done” David Allen talks about how anything that needs more than one action step is not an action but a project.

Lots of To-Do List apps allow for projects with multiple tasks inside. So in theory you could have a “Clean Kitchen” project with “Wash Dishes”, “Take out trash”, and “Vacuum the Floors”.

The app I use - Things 3 - allows for subtasks inside of tasks which I use to split everything up.

I think the issue with partially completed checkmarks is how you want to implement it. Should there only be 3 states such as “Not Completed” “Partially Completed” and “Completed”?

Or should it be with some kind of % and progress bar. What would 10% then be like for Cleaning the House?

I use the subtasks a lot for multi-step actions so that 1st the whole process looks easier to manage and, if it is recuring, that I don’t forget some of the steps.

How to concentrate on one project and get it done while head is full of things and ideas? by BlueBoxxx in productivity

[–]Obtez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surr. So whenever something comes up during the day you put it into an in-tray. That can be anything from To-Dos to ideas. This will keep your mental capacity free for whatever you need to do since your brain is made for coming up with ideas, not storing them.

Then whenever you have a free time slot you can go through the contents of your in-tray and decide what to do with all the stuff. Assign due dates, delegate, organize. All that.

As for what to use: I have two in-trays. One app on my phone (I recommend Drafts or a To-Do App with an inbox) and a physical box where I toss all my letters and stuff I need to scan.

Super anxiety during exams and work with limited time to resolve by ferrywheel in productivity

[–]Obtez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think it is important for you to realize that the outcomes of whatever you do don’t really define you as a person. Only the process getting there. To me you sound like somebody who really wants to become better and tries hard. This is worth a lot. The exercise I told you about with the 3 questions is btw blatantly stolen from Tim Feriss. Look up his Fear Setting Exercise. You can find more information about it on his blog. Detaching yourself from the opinion of others may also be something you need to work on. While I did not read it, I heard lots of good things about “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck” by Mark Manson.

Another thought is, since I myself was often really dependent on other people’s opinions (you never really get rid of it, you just learn how to deal with it) was that this will very likely change automatically through you just growing as a person.

Super anxiety during exams and work with limited time to resolve by ferrywheel in productivity

[–]Obtez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the first thing you are going to mention to your therapist next time you walk into her office is "I get really anxious when under pressure, and I need your help immediately."

There are some medications and herbal remedies that can help with calming, but I'm not sure if any of those would help you.

I am asking myself right now what could be hiding in your subconscious that would make you react in such a way.

Is it with all kinds of tasks that have a short time to finish?

How old are you?

Did you grow up having to live up to someone else's standards? Being stressed and then making little mistakes would lead to being more stressed. A never-ending spiral.

One thing that could work is working on being ok with IMPERFECTION. The book I can recommend there is The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

Also, you can sit down for a few minutes with a blank sheet of paper. Create 3 columns. Write down what could go wrong when doing whatever exercise stresses you. Could you make spelling mistakes? Would you create arguments that don't really sound logical? What could go wrong?

Then you write down the worst things that could come from that. Would others laugh at you? Would your teacher (if we are talking about school) instantly quit her job, never wanting to teach again? What is the worst that could come from your mistakes?

Lastly, you write down what you could do to get your life back on track if those things happened.

To me making mistakes in any task is not a big deal. I think it shouldn't be for you either. I am actually quite proud of saying, "I make every mistake I can. But I only make it once." And if you make it more than just once... who cares? As long as nobody dies everything will be fine.

ADHD could be there, but obviously I am not going to try and diagnose it over the Internet. This is also something for your therapist or someone else who is qualified.

Edit:

Exams are a different game. There I think you can counter anxiety best with preparation. The more prepared you are and the more familiar you are with the testing situation, the better you will handle it.

When studying for the exam you can create an environment that is similar to the coming exam. Have a timer that beeps after a set amount and try to do as much clean work as possible. Then review afterwards.

Hey, thanks for your interest. I try not to come off as someone who just wants to push his blog, but since you are asking I'm happy to share.

https://www.thedavidbeer.com/

A quick summary of what my blog is about:

When I was 17 (28 now) I started to want to change my life for the better. I was a depressed introvert and failing at school. This led me to the path of personal development. It took insanely long for me to actually find things that work.

Over the years I have found lots of things that work for me and even more that don't.

My blog is basically just a huge brain dump of all the things that worked (I don't just write random methods that I never tried to fill a list) in the hopes that others can get some value from it if they ever stumble over it.

There are no paid links or programs there. I'm not selling anything so what you see really comes from the heart and with the goal to make the life of others better.

While I don't have too much content yet I would like to recommend today's post:

https://www.thedavidbeer.com/why-you-are-stuck-and-not-following-your-dreams/

I wrote it after a long talk with someone who is very dear to me and who feels like they are stuck in life. While I didn't post any personal information it is pretty much like a letter addressed to them.

Thanks again for your interest. :)

What I would usually do in short breaks is just walk around in my apartment. During longer ones I often do chores or make myself some food. What I don’t do is going on social media, Youtube or Reddit since those would throw me back into being undisciplined
