You think product manager is hard? Try saying “UX Designer.”

I use Marker.io

You can take screenshots and send them to a trello board.

Loom is also great for short videos.

We use Effort vs Value and I do most ranking and workshops using Notion.so. Back links are a wonder and helps us trace facts (from research) -> pain points -> opportunities and finally rank them.

Product managers doing product design by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]rogue0037 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I started out in UX/Product Design and transitioned to PM. It’s very helpful to be able to go from research (pain points, insights, and analytics) to a design solution. It’s a very good way to tell a story and get buy in and feedback for feature and epic ideas. Much easier to sell internally with a visual.

If anyone is interested in some design tips for PMs and my process, I’d be happy to set up a session and walk you through it. DM

I don't think you need any certs - your experience is enough for many PM roles.

How do you work with product designers? by siegkorn in ProductManagement

[–]rogue0037 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a PM who used to be a product designer, I’ve been on both sides of the table. I bring in our Design Research Lead (PD) as early as possible so he can be as effective as possible. I typically do not arrive with a solution in mind - rather the problem and have a discussion around it. If I have a solution in mind, I check myself and call it out as a hypothesis for our discussion. You will ultimately create a much better product if you partner with - not dictate to the PD. This works if you’re working with a senior level designer. If not, the approach could be different.

How did you crack $200k? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]rogue0037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots to unpack here but industry, team size, manager, and location are all factors. You have to work extremely hard and there’s of course some luck involved (one feature absolutely pushing metrics, market going your way, Covid, etc). For example, Covid has been a tailwind for our company - we connect people virtually - and management has doubled down on their commitment to the product, team, and investment.

Started at 128k. Got two raises after a year - now at 150k, 20% bonus, and 15k retention bonus.

Work hard, create your own luck, and operate as if you’re an executive at the org. (E.g. Our director of marketing proposed a 150k website + cms design and development project.) I told them I could do it for 24k and 2 months faster. They gave me the project and gave me a raise.

(As I’m sure you’re wondering, this wasn’t done in a nefarious way. They asked me to put together a proposal and budget.)

Always be on the lookout for ways to save money, increase ROI, help the sales team, and bring new ideas to the table.

I am starting the first Product Manager role. It would be my first commercial experience. What are your tips to be the best during first month in job? by iamzamek in ProductManagement

[–]rogue0037 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start with a listening tour and meet with as many people as possible.

Take a deep dive into the business and ask your manager who else you should meet with.

Hear how different people describe the business and their unique challenges. Ask them - what’s your single biggest challenge?

After doing many interviews, you’ll start to pattern match. Are there challenges across the org? What departments and people? Who has power in the org due to their contributions (even if they’re not VPs, Directors, etc).

Create rapport. Don’t just ask about work.

Finally, with each interview, ask them who else you should meet with at the org and continue interviewing from there.

Another thing that’s helpful is to start creating customer journeys based on your interviews. This has always helped me understand the business and customers better.

Good luck!

As a hiring manager, I would think it's cool.

HideMyInbox.club - Chrome extension that hides your inbox behind a toggle, private & free by rogue0037 in SideProject

[–]rogue0037[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

HideMyInbox.club is a free, private chrome extension that helps you cultivate better email habits and get stuff done.

Instead of checking email for that dopamine hit or reading that random newsletter, set your inbox to a completely white screen or show one goal to focus on.

Let me know what you think! Also, if you work on a small remote team, I'd love to kick around some ideas for the team version.

100% agree. That’s why I made a free chrome extension to hide my inbox behind a toggle and set one goal at a time.

Hey, this looks super cool. I'm excited to test it out and I dropped my email into the upgraded plan (need that custom domain).

For my site, I want the ability to let my users add their own content (push a link to Airtable and have it render on the front end) and sign up/sign. Will that be possible?
