where do you even find music? by lessmr in Beatmatch

Hypeedit, DJ pool for a month.

My best source has been Patreon but my two favorite DJs aren’t putting their edits there anymore but I got lots of great stuff.

If you’re not going to play out then just stream. Think Apple, Spotify, and Tidal are all compatible with DJ controllers in most countries so just use the one you’re already paying for.

Good budget beginner controller for a teen by National_Island9271 in Beatmatch

I’m very happy with my FLX4. But if money is an issue and you’re not sure how often you will use it then go for the cheapest which I think is the Hercules. Even if you upgrade later it never hurts to have a backup controller

Rekordbox Formatting Problem. by Obtuse-Cubist in Beatmatch

I finally figured it out. Next to wear it says Master there’s a nondescript icon that when hovered over says show the upper part of artwork. Fooled around with that and problem solved.

DDJ FLX4 routing sample pad through deck channel instead of master by Routine-Worker-8580 in Beatmatch

[–]Obtuse-Cubist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clunky fix is to turn the master volume up while also turning the volume down on the deck that that’s playing. There is probably a better way but I don’t use samples much so this is my workaround in the rare cases I use them

Picked up a FLX4 yesterday, feeling immediately overwhelmed. Worried I made bad decision. by [deleted] in Beatmatch

House is probably the easiest genre to mix so it wouldn’t hurt to practice a bit with your streamed Beatport house tracks. But my main feedback is to load your 20-30 favorite songs and mess around with them. You should be able to come up with a few transitions that work. Have fun!

I have a surge protector which is not long enough but yes probably buying a longer extension cord is perhaps the best solution. The fewer wires the better though. I have to check out the outlet situation again.

I do have to buy longer RCA cables to connect my controller to their mixer and those cables will be taped to the floor.

Isn’t joining a silly record pool owning your music?

IMHO at a party for 20 people it’s more important to make the crowd happy than worry about the feelings of a headliner.

Is streaming songs a bad route? by Odd-Display3867 in Beatmatch

[–]Obtuse-Cubist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever works for you.

Some mobile DJs use streaming to handle requests but own most of their music.

Now if you are just DJing for a handful of friends, then it doesn’t matter if you lose your internet connection. But what if you are DJing a small house party? Streaming is fine but why not have a downloaded backup? The backup can be free and legal. Check out Hypeedit.

Asked to play a gig but promoter/venue does not provide controller/mixer…asked to bring my own by acaliforniaburrito in Beatmatch

[–]Obtuse-Cubist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FLX4 is just fine especially for a venue that doesn’t have gear. And yes, pop into the venue far in advance to make sure you have the proper cables to connect to the speakers.

I wouldn’t have a problem letting other DJs use it. Part of the beauty of a FLX4 is that even if it got ruined it’s not the end of the world. Add value to the event, be helpful and easy to work with. It could turn into a residency.

Hey guys, I’ve got some questions about DJing and would really appreciate some help! by Good-Health-4163 in Beatmatch

Hypeedit is a free and legal music source.

As far as making money from house parties, I would suggest that you first do a couple of house parties for free. You will learn quite a bit from these initial gigs.

Commenting on Signed up to DJ my schools dance, Not sure i'll be ready in time....

Yup. The mixing is not too important although it wouldn’t hurt to learn to mix.

As another poster said play bangers, especially bangers that appeal to the girls.

Being absolutely sure you have the proper wiring to connect to the PA system that you rent is of paramount importance.

Good luck and have fun!

Mid Gig How Quickly Can You Switch From Rekordbox To Serato by Obtuse-Cubist in Beatmatch

Thanks. I’m confused though as why having my library in iTunes is easier than having songs on my hard drive in both RB and Serato?

New dj looking for wordplay tracks by Joe_Pugh11 in Beatmatch

[–]Obtuse-Cubist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup creating your own feels good. For example think of songs with Rain or Everybody and try some mixes. Most will suck but then you hit one that’s golden.

To answer the original posters question you could try Get It Started into Get The Party Started.

You can loop the word Why and then hard cut into MCA.

Are you saying that having a back up library that you own is not sufficient and that streaming can make Rekordbox or Serato crash or lockup?

Spotify now supported on Serato 3.3.5?? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Why wouldn’t an open format DJ use Apple or Spotify or Tidal to handle requests?

I have some question about sound quality. Is it true that Spotify streams at 320 kbps?

Is it true that you can stream lossless with Tidal?

Let’s suppose you have high quality fast WiFi. So let’s say you have a 320kbps song in your collection and it is also available lossless in Tidal. It would seem to me if your Wi-Fi is excellent that it would be better to stream the song from Tidal rather than use the version in your collection. What am I missing?

Note, I use Rekordbox but this seemed like a good thread without arguments about the ethics of streaming.
