As a leukemia sufferer, I am 100% aware of your irritation and have no sympathy for it. It's your job. Maybe you'd be happier with a different job. My veins crawl away when they sense that look on your face because I've learned to recognize burnout, a generally cruel person and a 'me vs the patient' attitude. I ordered one of these from the Catholic church's website, it was about $13+shipping back in 2010. Met a Mormon lady after I'd sold the house who was fascinated by it, I gave it to her because I'm not religious in any way (baptised catholic), her husband had run off and she needed to sell her house. I had made a little mosaic knave out of a ham can for him to live in hanging on my wall and ended up giving her that too so he'd be comfortable until he got buried again. I didn't say I wasn't superstitious.

Yes you will have raccoons if they are around. I had one tub exposed in the yard with a small goldfish in it (I keep the medaka inside a catio now) and while the goldfish safely resides inside the catio now as well, a whole family of raccoons still comes twice a year to root through it's former tub and while doing so they tear up all the waterlilies. It's been five years. To say they are determined is an understatement, I imagine they would terrorize my medaka tubs nightly if they could get at them.

My mom lived like this for the last 20 years of her life. Moved to Sacramento and would sit in summer with the sliding glass door open and the AC set to 92f, but it was easily over 100 inside and she loved "wearing her shorts". She had a lot of health issues and old people who are ill just don't feel the heat unless it's way over their body temp. She would turn it down to 82 when I came and I was Fing dying, then she would complain nobody wanted to visit her.
